Remote Access Rules of the Road

1. Follow KUMCs Appropriate Use Policy, which covers anyone accessing theUniversitys network.

2. Install your antivirus software and keep it updated at all times.

3. Keep your computer updated with the latest security updates.

4. Off-campus access is for your personal use only. Your children, other familymembers or friends should not be given access to your account or to your PC during

the time that it is used to access the KUMC network.

5. All software is provided for your use while you are affiliated with the University ofKansas Medical Center.

6. Understand that failure to follow University policies will result in termination of your

remote access and possibly: loss of computing privileges; accountabilityfor conduct under applicable University policies, procedures, or collective

bargaining agreements; and/or prosecution.

Checking Antivirus

McAfee available for free if your PC does

not have antivirus software

Beware of subscriptions with new PCs

1. Right-click on the McAfee

icon on your taskbar.

2. Select About .

3. Look for Virus Definitions.

4. Created on date should be

within 1 to 2 days of thecurrent date.

5. Repeat step 1 and select

Update now to force an

update.

Some Final Recommendations

Be wary of open wireless networks (Starbucks,airports, etc.) turn wireless off if\when yourenot using it

Consider using a firewall to block unwantedtraffic

Dont forget to logoff WebMail, MyFiles, etc.when youre traveling

Keep an eye on that laptop!

Dont store sensitive information on your

laptop\PDA unless it is encrypted. (per KUMCMobile Device Policy)
