Menu Bar

The following table lists the Remisol Advance menus.

Archives Contains submenus to archive current patient requests and carry out other archiving functions

Configuration Contains submenus to configure parameters, profiles, comments, etc.

Quality Control Contains all submenus to carry out quality control functions

Audit Trail Contains the maintenance submenu allowing the manual entry of tracking events

1 Turn the power on at the Server console.

At the Log on screen, enter a User name and Password. This is a Windows log on.

User name: sysadm Password: session

Note: This is a generic administrator User name/Password.

3 Select Enter on the keyboard to continue.

4 At the Remisol Advance login window, enter the following:

Note In your laboratories, you will perform the same steps to launch the Client consoles.

Accessing Remisol Advance Help

Step Action

1 Select the Help icon from the toolbar. This will display the Help topic corresponding to the window that is open.

2 Select (single click) the General Information chapter and then select Remisol Advance Software Overview. Read all four topics in this section.

3 From the General Information chapter, select Working with Windows and read Moving a Window.

4 Close the Remisol Advance Help by selecting the Exit button on the Help window. Note: Selecting the Exit button on the Title Bar will exit the Remisol Advance software.

Communication Event Log

The Communication Event Log window opens automatically when the user logs on to Windows and anytime an instrument event occurs. Instrument events include downloading samples, uploading results, initializing messages, and line down messages.

Step Action

Note If the Communication Event Log has been closed, you may re-open the window by selecting Environment from the Menu bar then select Communication Event Log.

Using the reference from the topic Moving a Window, place the Communication Event Log window in the lower left quadrant of the Client Zone as shown below.

Locking / Unlocking the Remisol Advance software

Step Action

1 Select Environment from the Menu Bar. Then select Lock Station.

Your system is locked when you see the Login/Password window.

You may also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+B to lock the station.

Note You may place a timeout to log a user off after xx minutes. This is an optional setting that can be done by your applications specialist.

The Samples List is a display of all current (non-archived) requests. The Samples List can be configured to display pending samples received into the laboratory and can be configured to display STATs at the top of the list. These features can be useful in the pre-analytical testing phase.

SAMPLES LIST The Samples List window gives an overview of all current (non-archived) samples. The Samples List window contains the following information:

In addition to the tube icon which is colored green for routine samples and red for STAT samples, the left side of the window (Flags Column) allows for 5 sample flags. The Samples List has five flag columns the operator can use to determine the status of each sample.

Samples List Filters

The system administrator can customize the samples displayed on the Samples List by using the “Filters” feature. The default filter is set to display all current (non-archived) requests. Each defined filter will have a tab with a name customized by the Remisol administrator. Filters can be further customized by changing tab colors, text backgrounds and colors, as well as text effects. Multiple filters can be defined. Some examples of Samples List Filters are:

In the Sample Filters window fill out the following information: Filter Name: Pending Instruments: Select Heme only (only Heme will be backlit in blue). Display Samples: All checkboxes should be checked

In the Sample Filters window fill out the following information: Filter Name: Stat Instruments: Select Not assigned and Heme (these two selections will be backlit in blue) Display Samples: Select Stat only Custom colors: Select Stat only. Then click on Background and select red, then select OK. Click Background under Tab colors and select red, then select OK.


Note For any Filter, Custom Colors, Tab colors, Default list colors and Alert limits can be applied to further customize filters.

Displayed Fields

The Samples List can be configured to display user selected columns of data. The columns can be positioned for user preference. To change the position of a field in the Samples List, click and drag that field name in the Field bar to its new position.

To open the Displayed Fields window, right click on the Field bar on top of the Samples List, a popup window will display. This popup window contains the list of every field available for display for the current filter. Select or deselect a field name to either show or hide the field. The field names with a checkmark beside it are the ones currently displayed.

Step Action

1 With the Samples List open, choose the columns (display fields) of your choice and position the displayed field in the Samples List according to your preference.

2 Right click on the field bar to open the Samples List display field selections.

3 Deselect a displayed field of your choosing. Observe the changes in the Samples List.

4 Re-enable the field you deselected in step 3.

The Request List gives a concise overview of all current (non-archived) patient requests. The Request List can be configured to display samples with results requiring operator review and/or validation.

The Request List is used to easily identify those samples that have results that do not meet the auto-validation criteria and require review. The Request List may be used as a critical or exceptions log.

The Request List has nine flag columns that the operator can use to determine the status of each sample.

Request List Filters

The system administrator can customize the samples displayed on the Request List by using the “Filters” feature. The Default filter is set to display all current (non-archived) requests. Each defined filter will have a tab with a name customized by the Remisol administrator. Custom colors and icons can also be used as a tool to further distinguish requests/results within a filter.

Multiple filters can be defined. Filters may be used to view:

Results out of validation range (criticals) and require manual validation

Results requiring smear review

Requests that have been validated

Requests that need to be uploaded or have been uploaded

Tagged samples

Completed or Incomplete samples

STATs

Requests that have been downloaded and have one or more pending parameters

Requests with results that have been received but not yet viewed

Results Review

Results may be reviewed directly from the Request List. The Request Sheet window displays:

Patient Demographics

Sample Information (i.e. draw date/time)

Results (parameter values)

Graphical data, histograms and dataplots may be sent for CBC,

CBC w/ Diff and/or RETIC

Comments (Sample, Instrument, Results, generated by rules, etc.)

Results are highlighted with colors to indicate where they fall in relationship to the reference and/or validation range. Color codes include:

Note 1: Alphanumeric results are color coded in light blue (results from the instrument

Previous Results

When a request has been processed and validated, the results are stored in the database. Previous results for a Patient ID that have been archived will display next to the current results. The Previous Results columns will display the date and time the results were received by Remisol Advance.

Note: Patient demographics are accessed by the Patient tab located next to the Graphics tab.

Result Validation

Results within the laboratory established validation range may be automatically validated.

Manual validation occurs from the Request Sheet window by selecting the result(s) and then clicking on the Validate button from the toolbar. You may manually validate selected results or the entire request.

Select Filters and then select Modify and change the filter name from Default to New Results. Select the following: Display Requests: Select To Validate and To Upload (to host) only Instruments: Select DxH 800 only so it is backlit in blue Display only requests: Only Received (R) should be checked. Deselect all other checkboxes

3 Select the green check mark to confirm.

4 Right click anywhere in the Request List window to open the Request List popup window and select Filters → New.

Change the filter name from Default to Smear Review. Select the following information: Display Requests: Select To Validate and To Upload (to host) Instruments: Select DxH 800 so it is backlit in blue Display only requests: All checkboxes should be unchecked Custom colors area select Request Tagged.


6 Each new filter that that is created has all the display columns selected. Right click on the Field Bar to open the Displayed Fields window.

7 Select the Flags and Sample Id to display, then select any other options you prefer to be viewed.

To reposition display fields click on the Field name and drag it to its new location.

To view these results from the Request List, double-click on Patient ID 1300 to open the Request Sheet. To view the next sample, select the Next icon from the Toolbar. Use the chart on p.30 to answer the following questions: What color represents results out of validation range low? ________ What color represents results out of validation range high? ________ What color represents results that have a flag from the DxH? _______ What test result for Patient ID 1300 is out of validation range low?____ What color represents out of reference range high, in validation range? ______________

Note: For Hematology, typically the Validation range is used for critical ranges

and the Reference range is used for action limits not normal ranges.

Manual Validation of Requests

Note If the Request List is not open, select the Request List icon from the Toolbar.

1 From the Request List, double click a request to open the request sheet to view the detailed sample results.

2 Manually validate the request by selecting the Validate button from the Toolbar.

To validate partial results, select the specific parameters. Note: Hold down the [Ctrl] key to select multiple parameters then

select the Validate button from the Toolbar.

4 Select Yes to the message “Verify that all results to be validated are highlighted. If no results are highlighted, ALL results will be validated. Do you confirm the manual validation?”

5 Use the Next button to access the next request in the Request List.

Tube History

Allows the operator to follow the processes completed for a sample (tracking the sample).

Identifies the date and time when there was communication about the tube between the host to the Remisol, Remisol to the instruments and the instruments to Remisol.

Filters within the tube history can be customized to search for samples based on a specific sample status.

There may be times when the Remisol loses communication with the LIS or the instruments. Communication can be restored by exiting and restarting the Remisol software but that process may not work every time. Shutting down the Remisol may be a helpful tool when troubleshooting and may be the only way to restore communication.

Note: We do not have both Clients in this laboratory. In your laboratories, you will have both Client(s) and a Server, the Client(s) must be shutdown first, then the Server.

Step Action

Note Do not perform these steps for a Client here in this classroom as there are no Clients. These steps would be performed in your laboratories.

1 Select the Close button on the Title bar on the Client.

2 Select Yes to the pop-up message: “This action will stop Remisol. Continue?”.

3 Select Start on the windows toolbar.

4 Click on the arrow beside the Log off button.

5 Select Shut down from the drop down list.

Shutdown Remisol Advance Server – PERFORM THIS STEP NOW

1 Select the Close button. on the Title bar on the Server.

2 Select Yes to the pop up message: “This action will stop Remisol. Continue?”.

3 Select Start on the windows toolbar.

4 Click on the arrow located to the right-side of the Log off button.

Radv monitor

Radv monitor is a monitoring & management console for devices and system

components across a Remisol Advance v1.7 and above network. A user with adequate rights will be able to monitor and control: Remisols Instruments Automations Host(s) Diagnostics, The database Services

Radv Launcher (RADVL) Radv Launcher (RADVL) is the service in charge of starting instruments, host(s), automations & diagnostics tasks and optionally Remisols themselves. It holds a central role in the Remisol Advance implementation. Remisol Advance will install the service with its Startup Type set to Automatic.

Launching Radv monitor The Radv monitor utility may be started in 3 different ways:

Start menu > All Programs > 10-Radv monitor Start menu > All Programs > Remisol Advance > Radv monitor C:/Remisol directory > Radv_Monitor

Changing Parameter and Profile Display Order – Facilitator Demo

The Parameter and Profile Display Order window is used to change the order in which parameters and profiles are displayed on screen.

Step Action

1 From the menu bar, select Environment then select Display Order to open the Parameter and Profile Display window.

2 Select a parameter or profile in the Initial Order box to move it to the Final Order box.

Repeat step 2 to continue moving parameter over.

Note: If you moved the wrong parameter over select it again to move it back.

4 Using a patient Sample Report from the DxH 800, move parameters over to correspond with the layout.

5 Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the profiles in any order you choose.

Select the save icon from the Toolbar to save your changes.

7 From the menu bar, select Configuration → Profile Definition .

8 From the Profile Configuration window, select the drop down arrow to the right of Profile Code: and select HEM_PROFILE.

Tag Management

The management of tags was improved in Remisol Advance. In the previous versions, the user could merely tag or untag requests, samples or patients. Now the user can define custom tags which can be used with requests and samples.

Step Action

1 Select Configuration from the Menu Bar and then select Tag Definition.

2 In the Tag name field type Path review.

3 In the Comment Field type Further review of results required.

Note: this is an optional field.

4 In the Colors in the lists box choose Custom colors radio button.

5 Change the Background color to the color of your choice.

6 If needed, change the Text color to black.

7 Select the check box for Bold and deselect any other options.

8 Select the save Icon from the Toolbar.

9 Close the Tag Configuration window.

10 Select Configuration from the Menu Bar and then select Tag Definition.

11 In the Tag name field type ER.

12 Select the save Icon from the Toolbar.

13 Close the Tag Configuration window.

14 Exit and Restart the Remisol Advance software.



Defining Comments

This option allows the user to predefine technical comments or interpretations. Also, these may be categorized so that they are displayed only where required. The comment abbreviation can be used as a shortcut to enter one or more technical comments or interpretation in the Comments window for a patient. Note: These are known as Result level (interpretation) comments and Run level (technical) comments

Step Action

1 From the menu bar select Configuration then select Comments Definition to open the comments configuration window.

2 In the Abbrev. column, type CLT.

3 In the Name column type in Sample clotted.

4 Select the category in which you want the abbreviated comment to appear. For this exercise choose Technical (Tech.).

5 Select the save icon from the toolbar to save the changes you made.

6 In the Abbrev. column, type QNS, then in the Name column type Quantity not sufficient.

7 Select the Tech checkbox and then select save from the toolbar.

Rules help you to manage results and increase efficiency in the laboratory. New rules must be validated to ensure quality before the rule can be applied in the laboratory.

Utilizing the rule features will enable you to configure the Remisol Advance to autovalidate results, add messages and comments, utilize delta checking, utilize reflex testing, and perform other automatic additions/ checks.

Rules Overview

Rules are formulas that are designed to trigger specific actions. Some examples of how rules can be used are listed below:

Automatically validate a result

Convert results using a formula

Calculate a parameter

Trigger a message

Order a test

Add a comment to a request/result

The Remisol Advance generally uses the following format for rule writing: IF this condition exists, THEN this action will happen or ELSE this action will happen. The condition builds the rule for the IF portion and the action builds the rule for the THEN or ELSE portions. Using “AND” or “OR” within a rule can be used for multiple conditions. If “AND” is used, both conditions must be met for the action to be performed. Using “OR” means at least one of the conditions will result in an action.

Rules fit into three categories:

Download Rules - Requests received from the LIS

Parameter Rules - Rules based on single parameters

Upload Rules - Actions based on a single parameter or group of parameter results

Download Rules

Download Rules generate actions based on requests received from the host. Download rules may be used to automatically add new tests to a request, delete requested tests, or notify the user to review something on the request. Some examples of download rules are:

Add a test to specific type of order: Add CBC when a Retic only is

ordered

Change sample priority: If sample received from ER, make priority STAT



Parameter Rules

Parameter Rules generate actions for an individual parameter (test). Parameter rules may be used to auto validate results, check a result against a delta check formula, add a comment, or modify a result. Some examples of parameter rules are:

Generate a message if a delta check fails: IF HGB delta check fails, add comment: Failed Delta Check

Modify a result: IF manual comment contains ”Anisocytosis Slight”, Then report “SLT”

Upload Rules

Upload Rules generate actions based upon results received from instruments. Upload rules may be used to add a reflex test, add a calculated parameter, display a message, validate a result, stop rules processing or change tube status to a STAT. Some examples of Upload Rules are:

Validate a result if it falls within the validation range: If HGB is within validation range, validate result

Order a reflex test if result greater than critical limit and reflex test not previously ordered: If only CBC was ordered and WBC <=2.0 or >=30.0, then reflex DIFF

Important Information about Rules

A Rule may involve a parameter, reference limit, validation limit, delta check, patient age, sex, doctor, location, comment, etc.

Rules are applied from the first Rule to the last, in the order that the rules are listed

The rules are played in the following order:

1. Download Rules

2. Parameter Rules

3. Upload Rules

Note: Use the server when accessing the test database. All communication between systems (LIS, Remisol Advance/EQC and Instruments) is stopped when using the test database.

Rules Validation

Each laboratory is responsible for validating all rules for their laboratory setting, patient population and requirements

Rules are evaluated in a test database to avoid alteration of the Remisol production database

Rules should not be activated in the live environment until tested in the testing environment

Once rules are defined they are validated using the following process:

Production Database (Live Environment):

1. Rules are written but not activated

2. Patient requests that will be used to test the rules are manually requested

3. Representative data to test the rules at the decision points are input into the manually programmed requests

4. Export results to a file accessible in the testing mode

Test Database:

1. Switch to the Test Database

2. Activate the rule(s) for testing

3. Import manually entered results into the test database

4. Print rules report and review to verify appropriate actions

5. Modify the rule(s) if necessary and repeat testing

Note: The Test Database configuration can be save and then loaded into the Production Database

Production Database (Live Environment):

1. Return to the Production Database

2. Activate the new rule(s) or load the test database configuration

3. Save the new configuration

4. Delete manually entered requests



Creating a Rule – Do on the Server

Step Action

1 Select Configuration from the Menu Bar then select Parameter Definition.

2 Select WBC from the Param. Code drop down box.

3 Select the Rules button to open the Rule for WBC box.

4 Select the New button.

5 Enter “Perform manual diff” in the Name field for the Rule name.

6 From the drop down list in the Condition box, select “Into the validation range”.

7 Choose the check box for reverse the condition.

Select the Add button.

Note: The rule should look like this:

(NOT(InValRange(WBC))) in the IF box.

From the Actions drop down box choose Display Message then type “Perform manual diff” in the text box.

Note: the text box will not appear until the action Display A Message is chosen.

Select the Add button.

Note: The message should look like this “MSG(Perform Manual Diff)”in the Then box.


Note Important: For v1.8, DO NOT activate the Rule at this time.

12 Select the save button on the toolbar.

Note 1: Before the rule can be activated, it needs to be tested in a test environment. This is applicable to v1.6 and v1.8.

Note 2: Only for v1.7: The rule must be activated before testing.

Testing Rule

Step Action

1 Select Configuration → Parameter Definition → Param Code: WBC → Reference & Validation Ranges → Default Validation Range to verify the lower and upper validation range for WBC.

Note Use values outside the ranges above to test the rule.

2 Manually program a new request by selecting New Request

from the toolbar.

Enter 0001 and select the Enter key on the keyboard. Select Yes to the popup window, “No such person exists. Create a new demography?”.

4 Put the cursor in the Last Name box and type RULES TEST and then select the Enter key on the keyboard.

5 Double click on the parameter WBC. You will see WBC is now in the Summary box on the right side of that screen.


7 In the Sample ID Assignment box, enter LOW and then select

the green check mark .

8 Select save from the toolbar.

Type 0001, for the next sample, select Enter and then select the

green check mark as this demographic has been created in step 4.

Repeat steps 5 to 8 to enter the rest of the information.

10 From the Request List, select the first Sample ID Low to input results.

14 Manually enter the numeric result 2.9 for the WBC result and then press Enter on the keyboard.

15 Select the Save icon from the toolbar .

16 Select Yes to the prompt “Do you confirm that entered values are correct”.

Repeat steps 5-11 for each Sample ID you requisitioned.

Exporting Results

In order to test results in the testing mode, requests (sample results) need to be in a file that is accessible in the testing mode.

Step Action

1 Using the Request created in the previous exercise open the first request, (Sample ID LOW) to be exported

2 Right click the mouse.

3` Select Export Selected Sample to File.

4 On the left side of the Save As window, select Libraries – Documents.

5 Enter the Sample ID Low as the file name.

6 Select Save.

7 Select the Next Request button on the Toolbar.

8 Repeat steps 2-7 for each Sample ID you requisitioned.

9 Close the last request.

Switch to Testing Mode

Testing a rule must be done on the Server

Step Action

1 Select Environment from the Menu Bar.

2 Select Mode: Rules Validation.

3 Select Switch in Test Mode….

4 Enter (TestDB) in the Switch to: field.

Note You can assign a new name or select a test database name of a previously saved database on the drop down list.

5 Leave the Database files destination folder area with the default selection.

6 Optional area: Select Export current dictionary (overwrite test database) option to create a dictionary.

7 Select OK.

Select Yes to the pop-up message:

This function can take few minutes. Instrument should be in standby. Do you want to continue?.

9 Select Yes to the pop-up message:

Remisol must be restarted….Do you want to stop Remisol now?

10 Select the Remisol icon on the desktop to enter the Test Mode.

11 On the Top of the screen it will state you are in the Remisol Advance™(Rules Testing).

Activate the rule created earlier refer to the exercise Creating a Rule page 20 if needed.

Note: You do not need to exit and restart this time.

Import Results in Test Mode

Before beginning the actual testing of rules created, results need to be imported into the testing environment. For Classroom purposes we will use the results we exported earlier using the steps below:

Step Action

1 Select Environment from the Menu Bar.

2 Select Mode: Rules Validation.

3 Select Import Data.

4 Select Import from files…button from the Rules Testing window.

Select the file name(s) from the saved locations.

Note: to select multiple files hold down the [Ctrl] key while selecting the file names.

6 Select Open.

In the Select Steps window select the following checkboxes:

Play rules on imported samples

Print requests after rules was played

Export request after rules was played

Export/print rule trace

Note: You can select the Delete all data from the database checkbox to purge the database.

8 Select OK.

9 Select OK to the pop-up message:

“Data exportation done”.

10 Close the Rules Testing window.

11 Review the reports generated and determine if the rules passed or failed.

12 Correct and retest your rule if it did not demonstrate correct behavior. Ask the Facilitator to discuss possible solutions.

13 When finished with all testing, exit the Testing Mode by exiting and restarting the Remisol Advance software.

14 Modify the rule if necessary and then activate the rule.

Delete all of the requests manually created to test rules, by selecting the sample and selecting the Trashcan (delete) button from the Toolbar.



Messages List

The Messages List window gives a concise list of all messages created by extended rules for all current (non-archived) requests. One of the primary uses of the Messages List is to notify the operator of critical results. Other types of messages may also be triggered by rules. Since critical results appear in the Messages List, it is the first list you would use to review results. This will ensure that critical results are acted upon first.

Messages List Filter

The message filter window is used to modify each display filter. The filters allow the user to specify which messages to display in the message list window. You can select one or several of the follow filters:

Display the messages for requests that have not been reviewed (message will then disappear after the requests are reviewed)

One or several of the instruments that generate the results

Step Action

1 From the toolbar, select the Messages List icon and move that box to the lower right quadrant of the Client Zone.

2 Right click anywhere in the Messages list box and select Filters → Modify and change the name from Default to Critical results.

3 Check the checkbox for Show only messages not reviewed and select the DxH 800 only so it is backlit in blue.

4 Under Tab color change the background color to red.

Note The (*) beside the Message generated by rules header on the title bar allows the user to know a filter is currently set. This will appear for any filters (Samples and Request Lists).

Played Rules – Facilitator Demo When entering results, a quick check to determine the rules that were evaluated and if they passed or failed (condition requirements) can be performed by clicking the right mouse button on the result and selecting Played Rules from the contextual menu.

Rules that display green with a status of Passed indicate that the rule was

evaluated and all conditions were present and the action was performed.

Rules that display in red with a status of Failed indicate that the rule was evaluated and the conditions were NOT met, so no action was taken. This does NOT indicate the rule is configured incorrectly, rather the conditions of the rule are not present.

Rules that display in purple indicate the rule does not have enough

information to evaluate. This indicates a rule that may not be configured correctly.

Information/Practice Section If you are using a hematology instrument, you can carry out a manual diff directly

from the Remisol Advance console. You can access this screen by selecting the Desk / Manual count menu, or pressing CTRL+K from the request sheet, or by clicking on the microscope toolbar button.

Diffpad Configuration – Facilitator Demo The Hematology Standard Dictionary contains a DiffPad with cell types

already defined. This can be used as is or edited for the cell types you want to use.

Before you can add a user to the DiffPad configuration, the user must be

defined in Remisol.

The Diffpad is setup through the following path: Start → All Programs → Remisol Advance → Intranet Advance → Remisol Advance Login: and

EXERCISE 1: CREATE A PARAMETER RULE Step Action

1 Select Configuration → Parameter Definition, click on the down arrow in Param. Code and select WBC.

2 Select Rules → New and in the Name field type WBC Critical.

3 Select the down arrow next to Condition, scroll down and select Test result. WBC will be populated in the next box.

4 In the next box select < and then in the next box type 2.0. Click Add.

5 Select the Or radio button and then repeat step 3 and select > and then type in 50.0. Click Add.

6 In the IF condition text box, manually type .Value after the word WBC for both conditions. The condition will now read: (WBC.Value<2.0) OR (WBC.Value>50.0)

7 Select the drop arrow under Actions and select Add a comment 2 and type Critical into the text box. Select Add.

8 Add another Action, select Add a comment 2, type CNV and select Add.

9 Add another Action, select Display a message, type Critical result and select Add.

10 Enable the rule by checking the This rule is active checkbox.

1 Select Configuration → Parameter Definition, click on the down arrow in Param. Code and select PLT.

2 Select Rules → New and in the Name field type PLT Non-numeric.

3 Select the down arrow next to Condition, scroll down and select Test result. PLT will be populated in the next box.

4 In the next box select = and then in the next box type NULL. Click Add.

5 In the IF condition text box, manually type .Value after the word PLT for the condition. It will read (PLT.Value = NULL)

6 Select the drop arrow under Actions and select Add a comment 2 and type CNV into the text box. Select Add.

7 To add another Action select Add a comment 2, type Integrity check and select Add.

9 Enable the rule by checking the This rule is active checkbox.

5 In the next box select Left Shift. Then select Add. Note: You may select Or and select other Suspect Flags, for example Imm. NE 1. Remember to erase the number 1 in the IF box.

EXERCISE 4: CREATE A DELTA CHECK FORMULA

Step Action

1 Refer to User Guide → Configuration → Parameter Definition, scroll down to Delta Check and read this section.

2 Select Configuration → Parameter Definition, click on the down arrow in Param. Code and select HGB.

3 In the Delta Check box, and using the formula from Example 1 in the User Guide as a reference, write a formula whereby R1-R2 is not greater than 2.0 with a Validity of 2 days.

4 Select Test and in the Formula Testing box, enter 13.0 for R1 and 11.0 for R2.

5 Select Test and the Result should be 0.00000 which indicates a Fail. Note: A Pass is indicated by 1.00000.

1. When a rule contains a result#, add .Value after the parameter HGB.Value<12.0

SYSTEM CONFIGURATION


Create new users

Why is it important

The system configuration allows laboratories to define user access and a report header if it is your laboratory protocol to print reports.

Users Setup

Different levels of access/privileges may be defined for different individual users. Only users with system administrative privileges can define new users.

Step Action

1 Select Environment from the Menu Bar then select Users Setup.

2 From the Users Setup submenu, select Access Rights.

3 From the Users pop-up window select New.

4 In the Your password field type in session. This is the password for the administrator currently logged in.

Create the following users and privileges. Note: Passwords can be up to 25 characters.

7 Move the desired access privileges from the Access Denied box to Access Allowed box by single clicking the privilege.

Note For the Manual Diffpad, users need to setup in Remisol first, then in the Diffpad.

Changing Report Header

The report header allows for laboratories to define header information for patient and quality reports to be printed. Please note that Remisol Advance also prints the laboratory name as defined in the PMF license file at the bottom of the page.

Step Action

1 From the menu bar select Environment → Report Setup → Report Header to open the Report Header Setup window.

Create a Report Header using example below:

Line One: Hospital Name

Line Two: Hospital Address

Line Three: City, State

Line Four: Contact Name

Line Five: Contact Number

Select the green check mark to save your changes and close the window.

Note: The Cancel button will close the window without saving changes.

The Remisol Advance will operate more efficiently and quickly when the database is properly maintained. When the database contains too many current requests the Remisol may exhibit performance issues. Maintaining archived records will ensure the patient records are available for delta checking and easy retrieval. Backing up archives allows for long term storage and result traceability to an instrument. Resources

Database

The Remisol Advance database consists of both Current Requests (non-archived) and Archived requests. The amount of data stored in the database should be maintained by deleting and/or archiving requests per the laboratories protocol. LIS functionality may contribute to the decision on how to manage data.

Current Requests

Current requests should be archived or deleted at least once a day

Current requests can be manually archived or deleted

Deleting current requests removes them from the database and CANNOT be restored.

The system can also be set up to either automatically archive or delete requests based on:

After a specified number of days (deleting) or time (for archiving)

Upload to host

Archived Results

Archiving current request allows for:

Delta Checking – current results are compared to the last archived result

Easy retrieval to review previous results

Multiple runs of the same Sample ID can be archived (reruns)

Previous results traceability, i.e. who validated, QC Status

Reruns can be requested from an archived request



Archive Information

Archived requests have additional information stored with each result. This information can be used to identify result information as well as validation, instrument, and reagent traceability. The information is accessed from the result cell of the request. The following table describes each of the items in the Archive Information window.

Archived Patient Results

Archived Request Management

Archived requests should be either deleted or stored offline to maintain

database efficiency.

Archived requests can be manually deleted or set up to automatically delete after a specified time. Deleting archived requests removes them from the database. Deleted requests/results cannot be restored.

Backup archives to external media (flash drive or CD) for offline storage. Data can be restored to the archive database from the external media for traceability purposes.

General Setup

For automatic archiving and deletion, from the Menu Bar select Environment then General Setup.

Automatic Export

From Remisol Advance 1.8, a new functionality was added to automatically back up the latest archives, those that have not been backed up already (via the General setup option). This can be set up via the Archives → Automatic export menu, this will bring up the Automatic Archive Export Setup window.



Manually Archive Requests

Step Action

1 Select Archives from the Menu Bar then Archive Current Request(s).

2 Select Yes on the message window to open the Requests Archiving window.

3 Select All radio button in the Archive Requests area.

4 In the From box, type in the date from 7 days ago.

5 In the To box, type in yesterday’s date.

Choose the following Checkboxes: Archive Graphs Archive only validated requests

Leave all other checkboxes deselected.

7 In the Instrument box, select DxH 800.

8 Select the green check mark to save changes.

At the message: “This action will destroy all patient demographics which have no results. Do you want to continue? Note: Keep check box selected for Keep Monitor-It patients and data and then select Yes.

10 At the message “Database Purged” Select OK.

11 Close the Request Archiving window.

Creating a Backup of the Archives

Step Action

1 Ask your facilitator for external media for performing the backup.

2 Select Archives from the Menu Bar then select Save to open the Save Archive window.

3 In the Patient ID field put in a * (wild card) and leave all other fields corresponding to patient information blank.

4 In the From field type in the date from 7 days ago.

5 In the To field type in yesterday’s date.

6 Select Extract.

7 Select Select All.

8 Select Save.

9 On the left hand side of the Save As window under “Computer” select the appropriate drive.

10 For the File Name: type Practice Backup and today’s date

11 Select Save.

Select No at the prompt asking if you want to delete archives after performing backup. Selecting No is for class room purposes only. Laboratories may choose to delete the archives once they have been backed up.

Note Selecting Yes to the prompt gives the message “This action will destroy all patient demographics which have no results. Do you want to continue?”.

14 Close the Save Archives window.

15 Remove the media and save it for another exercise later.



Configure Auto Archive

Step Action

1 Select Environment from the Menu Bar then Host Setup to open the Host Setup window.

2 In the Host Upload area choose the check box for Archive After Upload.

3 In the field for Defer the archiving or the deletion of, enter 0.

4 Select the save icon from the Toolbar.

5 Close the Host Setup window.

6 Exit and Restart the Remisol Advance software.

Restoring Archived Data

Step Action

1 Place the external media you used in the Backup Archived exercise into the appropriate drive.

2 Select Archives from the Menu Bar.

3 Select Restore.

4 Select Extract.

Note You can restore a specific patient or date range by filling in the appropriate fields.

5 Select Extract from files.


Note If prompted select Cancel if not using the A drive (floppy disk).

7 Locate the file name to restore. Note: Should be Practice Backup and today’s date.

8 Select Open to open the Restore Archives window.

9 Choose Select All.

Result Search from Archive

Step Action

1 Select the Previous Results button from the Toolbar.

4 Select the Patient from the list in the Demographics Search window.


6 In the Previous results window double click on a result to open the Archive Information window to view additional information stored with the result.

Automatic Export

Step Action

1 From the Menu bar, select Archives → Automatic export

2 Select the drop down arrow to the right of Computer dedicated to the export and select the name of the Server R2000.

3 Select the frequency of your choice.

Saving the Configuration

Step Action

1 Ask your instructor for an external media device.

2 Select Configuration from the menu bar then select Save.

3 Insert external media.

Choose the appropriate drive list under “Computer” on the left side of the “Save As” box.

5 Leave the file name as the default (yyyymmdd) which should be today’s date with a .dic extension.

6 Select Save, when save complete remove external media device.

Program a New Request with no Previous Demographics

Step Action

1 Select the New Request button from the Toolbar.

2 Type a Patient ID of your choice.

3 Press Enter on the keyboard.

4 Select Yes to the popup window message “No such person exists. Create a new demography”.

5 In the Last Name field type in Thomas.

6 In the First Name field type in Maureen.

7 In the Date of Birth Field put in 09/23/1954

8 In the Sex: drop down box choose Female.

9 Choose the STAT check box. Note: The STAT check box is located by the date and time.

10 Select Add parameter or select the Enter key.

11 Under Default sort choose CBC or Individually select each parameter.

12 Select the green check mark to save changes.

13 Using a downtime barcode label in the Sample ID Assignment window change the barcode in the Sample ID field. Note: You can also designate the sample is a STAT here.

14 Select the green check mark and select from the Toolbar.

15 Close the New Request Window.



Program a New Request with Previous Demographics

Step Action

1 Select the New Request button from the Toolbar

2 Type in the Patient ID 1311 (Yoda Rie) and press Enter on the keyboard.

3 Choose Yoda Rie from the Popup box and press enter or select the green

check mark .

4 Select Retic from the individual listed parameters.


6 In the Sample ID field change the ID to 4321012.


8 Select the save button from the Toolbar.

Add Parameter to a Request

Step Action

1 Select the Search button from the Toolbar.

2 Type in the sample ID for Maureen Thomas that was used in Program a New Request with no Previous Demographics.

3 Select the green check mark to open the Request sheet.

Note If more than one run is available a window will appear with the various runs. Double click on the desired run.

4 Right click on any result to open the Request Sheet popup menu.

5 Select Create a request from this run. Note: this is available if the results are archived.

Note If you chose the Patient from the Request List when you right click choose Add parameters.

6 From the Parameters List under Profile choose HEM_DIFF.
