Have You Met Jasper?
Jasper is part of Indiana’s ‘Bison-tennial’ project. Indi-
ana Association of United Way coordinated the Bison-
tennial Public Art Project in partnership with Indiana Bi-
centennial Commission. This legacy project is one of
many ways Indiana is celebrating its 200th birthday.
Each county received a 5x5 fiberglass bison sculpture to
decorate in a way to represent their county.
Each county’s bison is to make their appearance at local community activ-
ities, and the Bicentennial Torch Relay Route. Jasper has or will visit the
Jasper County Fair, Indiana State Fair, Kankakee Valley High School, Little
Cousin Jasper, The Sandhill Crain Festival (Wheatfield) and its Remington appearance will be at the Remington Library. Then it will make its appear-
ance to the Torch Relay Route and its final resting place will be the Jasper
County Courthouse.
Jasper’s artists were Cindy Ziese, Christine Herre, Kayla Groen, Doris My-
ers, and Lindsey Preston. Come see how Jasper was transformed from a
white fiberglass bison to a work of art. He even came in second place for the
Peoples Choice at the Indiana State Fair contest.
Come Visit Jasper!
Sept 28—Oct 5
He may be around longer, check our website and Facebook pages for updates.

* The Friends have purchased a new bench settee for the adult reading area. It is both firmer and wider than the other chairs in this area, per patron request. We hope you
will use it to relax and read at the library!
* The Friends once again sponsored the Summer Reading Program. We purchased over $600 in fun prizes for around 100 preschoolers through teens. It was a great motiva-
tion for our young people to get motivated to read over summer break - great job
reading, kids!
* Our annual used Book Sale made $775 this year! It was held in the Tobias Room, and many people donated their used books to the sale. This money will be used to
sponsor next year’s summer reading program and to purchase other materials for the
library. We appreciate your support.
* Our next meeting will be Monday, September 26, 2016 at 7pm. Get a free library bag
for attending your first meeting!
