Dear Community,
Finding God in All Things
I have a colleague whose hobby is woodworking… When I
hear him talk about his latest project, I know I am seeing a
picture of how God deals with us – how he holds the weather-
scarred, unformed lumps of us in his hands and sees the true
reality at the heart of us. And he calls us into a relationship of
ongoing cooperation with him as this transformation, this re-
creation, is gradually brought about.

Tomorrow the Interim Reports for Term 1 will go home with your child. You may find areas where
you will be able to work with your child to establish learning goals for Term 2 and beyond. The
content of the reports, together with the input of the class teacher, your child and yourself, will
assist in the Three-way interview sessions.
Three-way Interviews are being held next Monday 27 March to Wednesday 29 March; for all
classes except Year 4/5. Three-way Interviews for Year 4/5 will occur in Week 10, Monday 3 –
Wednesday 5 April; as Mrs Godwin is attending a professional learning course during Week 9. All
students and families are expected to attend a three-way interview over the coming two
weeks.
Bookings for interview times are available using Google Docs, using the same procedure as last
year – refer to separate instructions on Page 2. For families without access to technology, please
phone the office on 4842 2413 and Mrs Hewitt will complete a booking for you for a suitable day
and time.
EnviroMentors
Next Tuesday each class in Years 2-6 will attend a one hour workshop, facilitated by Queanbeyan-
Palerang Regional Council, to inform and enthuse our school community in using recycling and
rubbish bins effectively; to build upon the great work being done in growing vegetables and fruit
through the veggie patch; and to learn more about the importance of caring and sharing the natural
resources of our local community.
Brumbies Visit
Also next Tuesday, we will receive a visit from a number of Brumbies players, who will share their
skills and enthusiasm for Rugby with the children.
Bungendore Rotary Public Speaking Competition
On Tuesday night we have two students who will be participating in this competition. Our best

Work While You Have the Light
The question of human suffering was a big problem in biblical times. It still is a big problem. An Old Testament view saw a connection between suffering and sin. Suffering was seen as God’s punishment for sin. Every time they saw suffering served as a stark reminder to them of this side of God. But this left them with a very negative image of God. It made God out to be spiteful and vindictive. And, by and large, this was the view that prevailed. Hence, when the apostles saw the blind man they immediately concluded that his blindness was a result of sin. But there still remained the problem: for whose sin was he suffering – his own or his parents? So, hoping that Jesus would solve the problem for them, they asked him, ‘Why was this man born blind? Who sinned? Was it the man himself or his parents?’ Jesus said, ‘Neither this man nor his parents, but in order that the works of God might be displayed in him’. Thus he rejected the connection between suffering and sin. The man’s blindness was not punishment from God. God does not do evil. God does good. We are no wiser as to the actual cause of the man’s blindness. It might have been the result of a genetic flaw, or the poor health practices in Palestine at that time, or just a random thing. We simply don’t know. And it really doesn’t matter. Jesus went on to say, ‘This is an opportunity for me to show you what the works of God are really like’. Then he proceeded to heal the man. So the

man’s blindness did reveal something about what God is like. It shows God’s compassion in the face of human suffering. The disciples may not have found Jesus’ answer fully satisfying. But it was the perfect answer to the blind man. Talking about a problem will never solve it. Only action will. The suffering of others is an opportunity for us too – an opportunity to show care. The night is coming for us too. We do not know how much of life’s day remains to us. Hence, we must try to make use of every opportunity that comes our way to do good. We shall pass through this world but once. And good, therefore, that we can do, or any kindness that we can show, to any human being, let us do it now; let us not defer it or neglect it, for we shall not pass this way again. - Gather, Proclaim, Break, Send.
May Peace be in your homes, Ann
