Remarkable Case of Healing By Prayer

E ureka S prings, July 10.— A remarkable case of healing by prayer has been manifested this week in the sudden and complete recovery of Mrs. G. W. Smelser from a critical illness.

For six weeks Mrs. Smelser has been very sick, and during the past few days it was thought she would die.

Finally, after all human means had failed to bring relief, Mrs. Smelser, who is a devout Christian, asked that all her friends would join on Tuesday as a special day of prayer. Distant friends as well as her Eureka Springs friends were communicated with. Wednesday morning Mrs. Smelser was up — restored to health and yesterday for the first time since last March she took solid food.

This is the second experience of this kind in the Smelser family. Eighteen years ago a daughter was restored to health through faith and prayer.

The Smelser family are old residents here, and are highly thought of, and the sudden restoration of Mrs. Smelser, who is a woman past 70 years, is causing much comment.

Miss Millie Chandler has returned from a pleasant outing in Colorado.

Billie Heitland has returned to the city to attend school during the winter.

Grandma Fillmore is again with us after a delightful visit of six weeks in Milwaukee and the beautiful lake resorts in its vicinity. W. Rickert Fillmore came home with her and will remain several days.

The September number of Unity is now ready for delivery, and is full of good things as usual. T h e Signs t h a t F o l l o w has been consolidated with U n it y which makes it necessary to add more pages to Unity. It is now an 80- page magazine instead of 64 page as heretofore, and is likely to grow more before long

Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Wallace, Tessie and Theodore spent a week at the old homestead in Olathe. A number of friends from Kansas City who visited them received a most cordial reception and enjoyed themselves immensely.

The members of the Unity Guild who planned a Labor Day Picnic were not disappointed even though it did rain and rain. They did not go to Swope Park but stopped at Miss Gaylord’s home where they spread their luncheon on a table and had a royal good time.

WEEKLY UNITY

RESPONSIVE SERVICE.

Sunday, September 12

He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.—Prov. 16:32.

I a m in authority. I say to this thought, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh. (Read Matt. 8:5-13.)

God is good and God is all, therefore there is no reality in evil.

There is but One Presence and One Power, therefore there is no presence and no power, personal or impersonal, in what seems evil.

God is Spirit, therefore all that exists in reality is spiritual. What seems material is the limitation of sense consciousness which I repudiate. My body is spiritual.

My life is one with Divine Life, and I am no longer subject to any thought of disintegration or death.

Wisdom is my perpetual birthright and my mind is constantly illuminated and renewed by the One Intelligence.

“All that the Father hath is mine.” Thoughts of plenty fill my mind to the complete exclusion of thoughts of lack, and I am satisfied and abundantly provided for.

I inherit from my Father, God, wholeness, and there is no longer any power in the fleshly thought of disease or sickness. A well of life-giving thought is opened within me, and I am perpetually renewed in mind and body.

“ Thy light shall break forth as the morning, and thy health shall spring forth speedily.”

The Unity Inn Cooking Class meets every Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. The most up-to-date methods of hygienic and vegetarian cooking taught. For particulars apply to Mrs. Mary Bissett at the Inn.

An evangelist was exhorting his hearers to flee from the wrath to come. ‘ ‘ I warn you,” he thundered,“ that there will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

At this moment an old woman in the gallery stood up. “ Sir,” she shouted, “ I have no teeth.”

“ Madam,” returned the evangelist, severely, “ teeth will be provided.”— From Success Magazine.

WEEKLY UNITY

Prosperity ThoughtIt was decided at the recent Board

meeting that a thought or statement be given to the Unity members and friends, to be held in unity and co-operation for the needed realization of the $50,000 for the Building Fund. All friends and well-wishers of Unity and its good work are invited to enter into the following affirmation, carrying it with them every day for the demonstration which is sure to come:

“ Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.— Mat. 3:10.

The response to last week’s appeal is very gratifying indeed. The envelope collection was as follows: 36 envelopeswithout names contained $8.55 and 5 envelopes bearing names $7.50, making a total for expense of $16.05 f°r 41 en' velopes. It is expected that those who were not prepared last Sundaj? will be ready this Sunday and that the collection will be still better. The Speaker’s collection was $11.16.

The price of souvenir plates has been reduced to 50 cents each. Here is an opportunity for everyone to get a fine souvenir plate with a picture of Unity Building on it for half the original price. On sale in the library. All proceeds from sale of plates go to the Building Fund.

No longer talk about the kind of man that a good man ought to be—but be such.— Marcus Aurelius.

A laugh is just like sunshine It freshens all the day,

It tips the peak of life w ith light,And drives the c louds away:

T h e soul grows glad that hears it,And feels its courage strong —

A laugh is just like sunshine F o r ch eering folks along.
