THAI TEMPLE: WAT PHRA KAEW(the temple of Emerald Buddha)

• Located in the Heart of Bangkok( Phra Nakhon District)

• One of the history landmark of Thailand

• Located within the GRAND PALACE

• One of the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand

History/Background

•the Emerald Buddha was Discover in 1434 at Chiang Rai

•It was found hidden inside of the chedi when a lightning damage it.

•It was transported to many place for protection(Indonesia, Laos, thailand)

•In 1784 it was brought back to Thailand when King Rama I established the capital Bangkok and the Grand palace

ordination hall• The foundation of the building is made by stucco and cover with multiple layers of plasters

• It has eight rows of columns that support the roof

• The columns are inlaid with glass mosaic

• The base of the shrine are made with multiple layers of cement to support it

• The roof are decorate with colour Ceramic tiles

• The doors of the temple are done in mother-of-inlay with mondop style

• Most of the thai temple are decorate with specific motifs to chase of evil spirits

• The temple doors are often decorate with ornaments

Interior of the temple

• There will be a large altar that commemorate to the deaths of kings and queens

• The Buddha Is place on the gilded wooden busabok throne

• mural painting behind the wall depict the cosmology of the traiphum

monuments• The Phra mondop is temple’s scripture pavilion/ sacred library

• Constructed by king rama I to protect the Buddhist canon

• Only monks are able to enter

• It’s covered in green mirrored tiles inlaid with gold medallion

• Phra sri Rattana/ the golden chedi

• Built by the king Rama IV using the Ayutthaya style

• Inside the golden chedi contains sacred relics

• It is embellished with golden mosaic
