Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
When a pre-schooler touches something hot, he learns that it burns. If he climbs on a chair or up the stairs, he learns that he
can fall down. Most children do fall and bump their little head. In child development, the child progressively learns by
natural instinct how to use logic to ensure that his basic needs of life are met. Those needs consist of eating and drinking,
sleeping when tired, dressing up or taking shelter to protect himself from the heat of the sun or the cold, seeking mom and
dad's security, etc... The pre-schooler even learns to be safety minded by not trying to chase and catch in his hand those nice
looking yellow bumble bees. It should be the other way around, the bee chasing him.
But what about when we become adults? Is our learning process completed? Many seem to think so! Being an adult, they
consider themselves mature! But, are we really mature in the whole of our being according to the teachings of the Bible?
True maturity does not only consist of going through the phases of child development, getting a job and finally settling down
with a family. That is worldly maturity. Today's readings speak of spiritual maturity that begins when the individual is
spiritually enlightened by the grace of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. Spiritual maturity has to do with learning
spiritual virtues that will benefit the holiness of the soul.
We must open our spiritual minds to the Holy Spirit who searches everything, even the depths of God, so we can know the
will of God in all things. Knowing the will of God, we must be moved to act upon it, performing the acts of goodwill that the
Holy Spirit inspires us to do.
We must stop looking at the hardships and sufferings of life as punishments from God. Rather, we must ask ourselves, "What
does God want me to learn from this discipline?" "What virtue can I gain from this hardship or suffering?" Can I learn
patience that Adam and Eve could not have learned? Can I learn compassion for others who have similar hardships? Can I
learn not to be judgmental?
When we will have learned what God is trying to teach us, having been disciplined by the grace of a loving Heavenly Father
and having been purified by the fire of the Holy Spirit, then my brothers and sisters, we will begin to shine as children of God
in the likeness of God Himself.

Sexto Domingo Del Tiempo Ordinario
Cuando un niño en edad preescolar toca algo caliente, se entera de que se quema. Si se sube en una silla o sube las escaleras,
se entera de que él pueda caer. La mayoría de los niños se caen y golpean su pequeña cabeza. En el desarrollo del niño, el
niño aprende progresivamente por instinto natural a usar la lógica para garantizar que se satisfagan sus necesidades básicas de
la vida. Esas necesidades consisten en comer y beber, dormir cuando está cansado, vestirse o tomar refugio para protegerse
del calor del sol o el frío, buscar la seguridad de mamá y papá, etc ... El pre-escolar, incluso aprende a pensar en la seguridad
al no tratar de perseguir y atrapar en sus manos aquellos llamativos abejones amarillos. Debería ser lo opuesto, la abeja
persiguiéndole a el.
Pero ¿qué pasa cuando nos hacemos adultos? Se ha completado nuestro proceso de aprendizaje? Muchos parecen pensar que
sí! al ser adultos, ellos se consideran maduros! Pero, ¿somos realmente maduros en la totalidad de nuestro ser, de acuerdo con
las enseñanzas de la Biblia?
La verdadera madurez no sólo consiste en pasar por las fases de desarrollo de los niños, conseguir un trabajo y, finalmente,
estableciéndose con una familia. Esa es la madurez mundana. Las lecturas de hoy hablan de la madurez espiritual que
comienza cuando el individuo es iluminado espiritualmente por la gracia de Dios y el poder del Espíritu Santo. La madurez
espiritual tiene que ver con el aprendizaje de las virtudes espirituales que beneficiarán a la santidad del alma.
Debemos abrir nuestras mentes espirituales al Espíritu Santo que todo lo escudriña, aun lo profundo de Dios, para que
podamos conocer la voluntad de Dios en todas las cosas. Conociendo la voluntad de Dios, debemos ser movidos a actuar en
ella, realizando los actos de buena voluntad que el Espíritu Santo nos inspira a hacer.
Debemos dejar de mirar a las dificultades y los sufrimientos de la vida como castigos de Dios. Más bien, debemos
preguntarnos: "¿Qué quiere Dios que aprenda de esta prueba?" "¿Qué virtud puedo ganar de esta dificultad o sufrimiento?"
¿Puedo aprender a ser paciente como Adán y Eva no pudieron haber aprendido? ¿Puedo aprender la compasión por otros que
tienen dificultades similares? ¿Puedo aprender no juzgar?
Cuando hayamos aprendido lo que Dios está tratando de enseñarnos, después de haber sido disciplinados por la gracia de un
amoroso Padre Celestial y de haber sido purificados por el fuego del Espíritu Santo, entonces mis hermanos y hermanas,
comenzaremos a brillar como hijos de Dios en la semejanza de Dios mismo.
