RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES: All CCD/CYO classes have been canceled for the remainder of this
school year in an effort to keep students, their families, and the community healthy. Resources will be sent to fami-
lies to use with their children in the absence of religious ed classes. Please contact Rose Debes if you have any ques-
tions.
As a response to the current COVID-19 situation, the following have been rescheduled or canceled.
1. FIRST RECONCILIATION—has been rescheduled for August 9, 2020 at 4:00pm
2. FIRST COMMUNION—has been rescheduled for August 16, 2020 at the 9:00am Mass
3. VBS (Vacation Bible School)—this will be rescheduled for August. The exact dates TBD.
4. END-of-YEAR CYO TRIP—For High School students has been canceled.
We know that there are a lot of loose strings from not continuing our programming through the last month, so we are brain-
storming options on how to help our students finish the year and celebrate their accomplishments this year. They have worked
so hard and learned so much about their faith. We want them to know we are proud of their work, dedication, and the progress
they have made on their faith journey. We will pass on more information as health restrictions are listed and decisions are final-
ized. Thank you, everyone, for your support and taking this journey with our youth.
K-of-C CLEAN-UP CANCELLED: The K-of-C clean-up scheduled for this Sunday, March 29th has been cancelled. If
anyone has any improvement ideas for the hall, please call Greg Willis at 653-4543 or email him at [email protected].
NEW ALTAR SOCIETY BOOKS: Loretta will soon be working on the new Altar Society
books for the next two years. If you are 70 years of age or older and would like to be put on the
GOLDEN GUILD list, please let her know. You are no longer obligated to help with projects, but
will still be remembered in prayer. You may still pay your dues (if possible) and are invited to any
Altar Society gathering.

The St. Ann’s Altar Society is accepting applications for their
scholarship that is open to St. Ann’s parishioners’ children who
are preparing to enter study at a level of higher education within
the next calendar year. The $300 scholarship will be awarded
annually in May. All applications must be received by Stepha-
nie Schneider with St. Ann’s Altar Soci-

Spiritual Communion According to Aquinas, the difference (between actual and spiritual communion) is not as great as one might think. Let us consider that our access to Christ’s real and substantial presence in the Holy Eucharist is by our faith and charity directed toward this mystery. Our eating of Christ’s Body and Blood is an eating by faith and love, since the appearances of bread and wine are consumed. These appearances are the sign of the presence of his Body and Blood, but we obviously eat and drink his
Body and Blood by our faith in his presence and our desire to be united to him in charity, not by our physical chew-ing and swallowing. These natural functions, like the natural outward forms of bread and wine, are the signs of our deeper, inward spiritual eating of him.
Our Lord himself, in the sixth chapter of John’s Gospel, tells us that his presence can be understood only in
a spiritual and not in a fleshly way. This does not mean that his Body and Blood are not as really present as any oth-er thing offered to our senses; it means that we lay hold of this mystery by faith and love, not by bodily functions. So, in both a visible, sacramental Communion and in a spiritual one, we feed on the Body and Blood of Christ by faith and love, and we receive the same effects in either case.
It remains true, however, that with the sacraments the grace is greater and more precise if we participate in
the sacrament in fact and not only in desire. So our spiritual Communion is always a desire to receive the Lord sac-ramentally, but it is still in virtue of the sacrament that we receive the grace of a spiritual Communion. A spiritual Communion is a genuine, though less sacramentally perfect, sharing in the Body and Blood of the Lord.
Holy Church grants a partial indulgence for each spiritual Communion, and we can apply this indulgence to
