Read Jn 14:26 and 15:26.

What do these two passages tell us?

That Jesus was sending the Spirit of Truth, in other words, the Holy Spirit. He will guide you to testify about Jesus and the Father. He will also be sending peace, therefore, so do not be troubled or afraid.

Read Is 11:2.What are the gifts of the Holy Spirit?

• The Spirit of wisdom and understanding

• The Spirit of counsel and of power

• The Spirit of knowledge

• The fear of the Lord (in which He (Jesus) will delight in the fear of the Lord)

What, therefore, can we determine about people who exhibit these

gifts?

We can determine that they have the Holy Spirit within them. We are sinners, yet, we can still follow the life that God asks us to live with the help of the Holy Spirit.

What is the trinity?

• One God• Three distinct Persons who share in the divine nature• Equality of three Persons• First Person: Father (Creator)• Second Person: Son (Redeemer). The Second Person

becomes Man in the Divine Person of Jesus Christ• Third Person: Holy Spirit (Sanctifier)• Father begets Son (Son eternally begotten of the Father)• Father and Son send Holy Spirit (Holy Spirit proceeds

from the Father and the Son)

The Birth of the Church1. What did Jesus promise during his last discourse? Jesus promised that he would send his Holy Spirit to teach and to bring remembrance

to all he did on earth.2. Who gives life to the Church? The Holy Spirit gives life to the Church.3. Explain why Pentecost is called the “birthday” of the Church. Pentecost is called the “birthday” of the Church because that is the day that Jesus

sent his Holy Spirit to give life to the Church.4. What gift did the Holy Spirit give the followers of Jesus who gathered in the upper

room? In the upper room, the Holy Spirit gave the followers of Jesus the gift to preach and

spread the Good News.5. Was Pentecost the beginning of God’s plan for the Church? Explain your answer. No. Pentecost was not the beginning of God’s plan for the Church. He had been

preparing man for his Church since the Fall of Adam and Eve.6. Read all of Acts 2 and write what happened after the descent of the Holy Spirit.

Act of Faith

O my God, I firmly believe that You are one God in three divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I believe that Your divine Son became man, died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because You have revealed them, who can neither deceive nor be deceived.
