Hinduism

• The most major religion in the world.• Unlike any other religion in the world.• Always been inclusive then exclusive.• Belief in the transmigration souls.• Caste system of India is another characteristic.• Worshiped in temples.• Main concern became released from the cycle

of birth and death. • Asceticism grew rapidly and has remained a

prominent feature.

Hinduism Con. Devotional literature and hymns honoring written in

the Tamil language. Christian missionaries were the primary influences in

the early 19th century. Without persecuting each other or accusing each

other of heresy. Have so far eluded scholars and other investigators. under influence that the earliest Hinduism developed. contents are not much known by most Hindus today. 1,000-year era was noted for the division of Hinduism

into sects and schools of philosophy. strongly influenced by its social consciousness.

Christianity

Based on life, death, and coming life again.

World’s largest religion. With all the differences in beliefs in the

many denominations of Christianity. No one has ever succeeded in distilling. Early Christians were all Jews. No thought of venturing beyond the

confines of Israel with their message.

Borrowed greatly from Jewish forms. Used prayers, sang psalms, read from the

scriptures. Used two rites that had been commanded of them. history is filled with conflict, controversy, and

division. Established in nearly all parts of the Roman Empire

and in the Middle East during the first two centuries. Theodosius made it the most it the official religion

of the Roman Empire.

Judaism

One of the major monotheistic religions of the world.

Jewish people were dispersed throughout the world. Jewish revolts against Rome in the 1st and 2nd

centuries. Jewish people had no homeland. Judaism was not found in the Hebrew Bible. Jews would get together and hear the scriptures. Provide guidance for the Jewish people was the

party of rabbis. AD70 ended Jewish opposition 60 years later.

Jewish doctrines concerning God, man, and the nature of Israel.

Rabbis order that Jewish people dispersed throughout the middle East.

Judaism the supreme virtue for individuals and the community.

Rabbinic Judaism it was understood the life of the individual and the life in the community.

Judaism has two cycles of festival days in the year. Judaism considers that all of life is holy, that is, set

apart for devotion to God. Jewish immigrants came to North America in the late

1880’s.

o One of the great Asian religions.o Dates back to the ancient times.o Is the world’s fourth- largest religion.o Estimated 360 million Buddhists in the

world.o Buddha taught the four noble truths.o A Buddhist sect in Tibet.
