Goran Prvulovic – Director & Principal Consultant MOccHlth&Saf, CPMSIA, RSP (Aust.) Goran is an experienced risk management professional with over 24 years of opera-

tional and Occupational Health and Safety experience gained with a combination of

large multinational client and contractor organisations. He has held a number of sen-

ior HSE roles in various industries.

His multi industry experience stretches across mining, mineral processing, refining,

power generation and distribution sectors where he directly managed large operation-

al and multifunctional HSE teams as well as mentored and advised senior site and

corporate decision makers.

Throughout his life and career Goran has constantly been on a journey of leading

people, modifying behaviour and cultures, initiating changes, coaching, mentoring

and creating better leaders. His operational and supervisory background, combined

with an exceptional OHS technical knowledge and experience enable him to approach

front line management performance issues with a unique practical prospective. His

exceptional communication skills, language and training strategies are specifically

tailored to match a target groups and ensure the message gets across in the way that it

drives a critical thinking and a permanent behavioural change.

With extensive expertise in safety leadership, its practical implementation and effects

on the safety culture, Goran is able to provide clear, practical and highly effective

training, mentoring and imbedding of critical leadership skills through an innovative

Module 1 – Role of Front Line Leadership (FLL) in Management of Risk

Learning Objectives: This module introduces the overall programme, legislation, explores risk own-

ership and real world of FLL, barriers and challenges. It provides a foundation and a learning pathway for

participants in leadership and safety.

Module 2 - Safety Leadership and Creation of Safety Culture

Learning Objectives: Although management and leadership are closely connected, they are two very

different things. It is paramount for any front line leader to be a conduit for creation and enhancement of

operational discipline and safety culture. This module explores a relationship between leadership and

safety culture in depth and delivers a key understanding and skill sets essential for continuous improve-

ments and behavioural change every manager of people needs for a journey towards an outstanding safe-

ty leadership. This module is a foundation of becoming a true safety leader.


Module 3 – Key leadership Values, Behaviours, Skills and Practices

Learning Objectives: There is a large difference between a manager and a true leader and this difference is

truly manifested in leaders actual workplace behaviours and practices. This module provides an extensive cov-

erage of the key leadership values, skills and practices which are notoriously difficult to explain understand,

learn and adopt, especially as this requires a fundamental change in the way we think about the leadership. The

focus is on a practical side of leadership, its effects on team environment and production through a permanent

change of inner values, behaviours and practices.

Module 4 – Team Building, Individual and Group Behaviour

Learning Objectives: Humans are incredibly complex systems, capable of extraordinary achievements but

are also error prone, individualistic and unpredictable in group settings. Management and leadership of large

teams can be a daunting task and to be successful, one must first understand individual and group dynamics,

common issues, conflicts and how to manage them effectively. This module looks specifically at the individual

and group behaviour and practical ways of managing and providing an effective leadership to teams.

Learning Objectives: Do you wonder why despite all organisational efforts, systems and processes

invested a lot of financial and material resources to ensure good safety performance but are still experi-

encing significant issues in achieving safety and reliability in their operations. The human condition is a

complex subject and needs to be well understood to be effectively managed. As management’s function

concerns itself with the management of people, this module is invaluable in providing crucial

knowledge and tools which are absolutely necessary for success in leadership and people management.

This module explains the human condition, at risk behaviour and provides leaders with a different point

of view on human failures as well as how to practically manage them in the workplace.

Module 6 – Practical Risk Management for FLL & 13 keys for Safe Opera-

tions

Learning Objectives: As commonly stated, safety is indeed a line management responsibility, how-

ever this layer of management often lacks the fundamental skills needed for effective management of

OHS in the workplace, especially in the absence of an OHS professional. This module aims to deliver

underpinning knowledge and a practical skill set for the front line leaders. It starts with the comprehen-

sive overview of the relevant legislative obligations and impacts to organisations, provides an extensive

coverage of current OHS strategies with the focus on how to practically manage risks at the sharp end.

Module 6 includes a detailed incident investigation training and variety of practical risk management

methods, tools and much more. This is a critical set of tools essential for the management of Occupa-

tional Health and Safety in the workplace for any front line supervisor, superintendent or a Manager.



Module 7 – Creating a Team Operational Discipline and Safe Execution

of Work

The main difference between a workgroup and a highly effective team is in mutual trust, cohesion,

shared goals and a specific, goal oriented team culture. When such a team is able to consistently and

safely execute work to a high standards and to agreed methods this is called operational discipline and it

is highly dependent on a leadership, management and communications skills of a leader. This module

contains core knowledge aimed at front line leaders and provides practical advice and knowledge in

building of highly effective teams and achieving safety excellence through the concept of operational

discipline in execution of work. It also includes a framework for cultural change in the workplace.

Module 8 – InField™ Engagement and Influencing

Learning Objectives:

Real influence, motivation and behavioural modifications any front line leader can exert and in turn im-

pact the organisational culture and performance predominantly occurs during the field interactions with

the workforce. The ability to conduct a successful field leadership interaction is an acquired skill which

needs to be learned and practiced. Traditionally, this has been attempted by many different behaviour-

ally based safety programmes aimed at observing the workers and their ‘at risk’ behaviours. Most of

those had very limited and short lasting effects, and with good reason. True safety leadership is much

more that conducting a safety observation of a task at hand. This module teaches true safety field leader-

ship, communication, engagement, influencing, relationship building, and handling of difficult situa-

tions. It provides appropriate corrective strategies and tools necessary for success. Innovative approach

taught in this module is a combination of many years of practical experience in what really works in

field leadership and what really changes perceptions and behaviours.

provement Workshop Has your organisation recently experienced signifi-

cant incidents, injuries or significant, high risk near

misses? Are your key performance indicators showing

stable and reasonably good performance and it is dif-

ficult to understand where those events are coming

from?

Those events are alarms and indicators of a loss of control in some critical business aspects such as systems,

processes, operational discipline and leadership. They are critical and often indicative of underlying condi-

tional behavioural, communication and systemic issues capable of producing a High Actual Consequence

Event (HACE).

Many organisations have had good safety statistics at the time they have experienced HACE events. Having

good safety statistics alone is no evidence of safety excellence. Mechanics involved in causation of HACE

events often do not correspond to conventional thinking about safety which is measured trough recordable

injuries and in line with safety triangle of injuries. Some of the causational factors involved in creation of HACE can be easily visible however some can be

well hidden and laying dormant for a long time within various organisational systems, culture and practices.

Some can simply be work front practices which are not known to appropriate people. All of them can com-

bine with a particular set of factors to produce HACE. This is off course something which no organisation

wants.

The only way to identify those factors and turn the safety ship around is trough a proactive and systematic

approach such as the RiskWise FastTrack ™.
