Known Upgrade Issues

Issue Description

Error when launching Winscribe Client after upgrading from v4.2 Beta to final

Launching the Winscribe Client for the first time after upgrading it from v4.2 Beta to final may result in the following error:

" Application Error!

There was an error in Winscribe Client: Inconvertible type mismatch between SourceColumn 'J_LASTUPDATE'..... "

Workaround

1. Click the Close button on the error message – this closes Winscribe Client

2. Launch Winscribe Client again and login — Winscribe Client now works fine

Alternatively, delete the LocalJobData.xml from the users folders before launching for the first time after upgrading.

Error when upgrading multiple client applications v4.0.5

When multiple v4.0.5 applications are installed on a single system the first one upgrades fine, but the others fail after prompting to upgrade.

Workaround

Upgrade the other client applications by browsing to the Winscribe/setup pages and running the v4.2 installers.

11

Upgrading to 4.2

Issue Description

Error when upgrading multiple client applications v3.7.9

Scenario:

Installed v3.7.9 Typist and Internet Author.

Upgraded Typist to v4.2

Lunched Internet Author and logged and clicked yes in the upgrade prompt, it downloaded the file and started upgrading. After a while got the error message " Error 1905. Module C:\Program Files\CommonFiles\Winscribe\wsiRemote.dll failed to unregister HRESULT - 2147220472. Contact your support personnel."

Click OK on this error message and upgrade will be successful.

Typist application removed when upgrading Author v3.7.5 or v3.8.3

When Typist and Author applications v3.7.5 or v3.8.3 are installed on a workstation, upgrading the Author to v4.2 removes the Typist application.

Workaround

Browse to the winscribe/setup page and manually install the v4.2 Client.

Key New Features in 4.2

All improvements implemented in previous service releases have also been amalgamated into this release.

Simplified Web Components Installation In v4.2 we have simplified the installation and configuration of Web Components. Please refer to the Installation Guide for more details.

Combined Data Provider, Mobile Web Service, and Web Manager in a single installer

Deprecated the use of WebDAV, COM+, and WinscribeSubmitter local account

Automated the configuration of IIS during installation

Solution now works out of the box on all supported operating systems

Centralized the configuration of file size limits, e.g. audio file upload (see page 93)

Deprecated stored procedure for Mobile Web Service (addjob.sql script)

Data Provider now returns detailed errors in responses – simpler troubleshooting of client communication via tools like Fiddler

Added Data Provider log file (Program Files\Winscribe\Web Components\Data Provider\App_Data\Logs)

Deprecated version.txt file for client installers – simply drop msi into appropriate setup folder

Change Password All users (managers, authors, and typists) may now change their password via Web Manager at any time, using the new, redesigned user-header control.

14

Release Notes

Typist and Author Roles Previously, typist and author profiles were configured individually. In 4.2, to simplify the management of permissions, roles have been introduced. Managers can define a set of permissions as a template, and then apply it to several users simultaneously.

Speech Recognition Controller — Task Search The Diagnostics Controller now features a search facility for filtering and searching speech recognition tasks.

Searches can be by author ID and/or job number, and filtered by task type (i.e. Transcription, Adaption, or Training).

15

Key New Features in 4.2

Multi-Departmental Manager Previously, a manager's permissions applied to a single department (department manager role), or to all departments (facility manager role). In 4.2, specific managers may have department manager roles at more than one department.

In 4.2, a department manager has a Home Department:

And then may have further departments added:

16

Release Notes

Department Job Types Previously, job types were added individually to a department and each job type associated with a department was updated individually. In 4.2, it is possible to add multiple job types to a department in a single step, and to update multiple job types in a single step.

Previously, the Department Job Types page was only accessible to managers with permission to edit it. In 4.2, it will be additionally accessible as read-only to managers without this permission.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12 Winscribe v4.2 supports DNS 12 for both client-side and server-side speech recognition.

Speech Recognition Context Splitting Previously, speech recognition context, i.e. language (acoustic model) and topic (vocabulary), were both set within the job type.

To resolve issues where speakers using a job type belong to different ethnic groups and require different acoustic models, the context is now split, so that the language is associated with each author.

17

Key New Features in 4.2

The topic (vocabulary) is set in the job type for a specific department:

The language (acoustic model) is now set for each author:

18

Release Notes

Speech Recognition Results Analysis Monitoring and understanding poor speech recognition results often requires comparing the recognized text with the corrected text and listening to the audio. To manually perform this task is slow and typically does not get done — the user has to go to two places in the Speech Recognition Controller interface to locate the recognized text and the corrected text, and then go find the audio and something to play it back with.

In 4.2, to simplify this results analysis task, all three components are centralized on the Update Job page. Additionally, an accuracy percentage is reported between the recognized and corrected texts.

19

Key New Features in 4.2

Client Settings For consistency and ease of setup, facility managers can configure templates (lists of user settings) which can be applied to authors and typists.

For example, an author template could pre-configure hardware recording settings, inactivity timeout, volume, and playback speed. A client template could pre-configure the client skin, window configuration, language displayed, and notifications.

20

Release Notes

Note: The new Client Settings feature in v4.2 Web Manager requires the v4.2 License Server. If the v4.2 Web Manager communicates with an older License Server, the Client Settings feature will be disabled.

Audio Tab A new tab labeled "Audio" has been added to the hardware settings in Author. This tab enables authors to select their recording and playback devices, or to select the system default microphone and speakers.

Winscribe Speech Recognition (WSR) Winscribe Speech Recognition (WSR) is now available as a server-side speech recognition service and a fully-featured alternative to Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
