2012 OAKLAND RAIDERS WEEKLY RELEASE 1 2012 GAME NOTES THIS WEEK’S NOTABLE STORYLINES: • e Raiders travel to Miami for the first regular-season road game of 2012 on Sunday. • e trip will mark the first of five games in the Eastern Time Zone for the Raiders this season, most in franchise history. • e Raiders are scheduled to travel 28,692 air miles this season, nearly 500 miles more than the next most for an NFL team. • Sunday’s game will include three Heisman Trophy winners from the same school. •Grudensaidonseveraloccasionsas theBucs’headcoach,he tried tohireDennisAllen.AllenlearnedunderHallofFamerEmmittThomasinAtlanta,andThomasandGrudenareclose.

When Dennis Allen became the 18th head

Allen, 39, is the NFL’s youngest head coach,more than six months younger than the league’spreviouslyyoungestcoach,Pittsburgh’sMikeTom-lin.

Heoriginallyentered theNFLcoachingrankswithAtlanta in2002,

spending four seasonswith theFalcons as adefensive assistant.DuringhisstintinAtlanta,theFalconsqualifiedfortheplayoffstwice—asawildcardin2002andasNFCSouthchampsin2004—andplayedintheNFCChampionshipin2004.

Allen spent his first two yearswithAtlantaworking primarilywiththedefensivebacks.In2002,heaidedthatunitinimprovingfromNo.30againstthepassto16th,whiletyingforthirdintheNFLwith24intercep-tions.

InhisfinaltwocampaignsinAtlanta,Allenassistedincoachingade-fensive linethatproducedProBowlersPatrickKearney(2004)andRodColeman(2005).In2004,thelinehelpedtheFalconstotal48sackstoleadtheNFLforthefirsttimeinteamhistory.

Allenkickedoffhisfootballcoachingcareerin1996asagraduateas-sistantathisalmamater,TexasA&M,wherehewasafour-yearlettermanasasafety.HeworkedwithAggiesdefensivebacksforfourseasonsbeforecoachingthesecondaryattheUniversityofTulsafrom2000-01.
