    June,andJulyrateswerethelowestsinceSeptember2008whenitwas7.0percent. Therewere665,000

    jobless Floridiansoutofa labor forceof9,404,000. TheU.S. Julyunemployment ratewas7.4percent.

    Floridasunemploymentratewas0.3percentagepointlowerthantheU.S.rateandwasbelowthenational

    rateforthefifthconsecutivemonth.

    Floridasseasonallyadjustedtotalnonagriculturalemploymentwas7,549,600inJuly2013,anincreaseof

    27,600jobs(+0.4percent)overthemonth. Thenumberofjobs inthestatewasup143,700fromJulya

    yearago,anincreaseof1.9percent. Nationally,thenumberofjobsalsowasup1.7percentovertheyear.

    consecutivemonthwithpositiveannualjobgrowthafterthestate lostjobs foroverthreeyears. The industry

    gainingthemostjobswastrade,transportation,andutilities(+53,800jobs,+3.5percent).

    Other industriesgainingjobs included leisureandhospitality(+25,600jobs,+2.6percent);professionalandbusinessservices(+24,200jobs,+2.3percent);privateeducationandhealthservices(+20,500jobs,+1.8percent);construction

    (+15,700jobs,+4.6percent);financialactivities(+7,700jobs,+1.5percent);otherservices(+2,300jobs,+0.7percent);

    andinformation(+1,900jobs,+1.4percent).

    Theseindustryjobgainswerepartiallyduetoincreasesinfoodandbeveragestores;foodservicesanddrinkingplaces;services to buildings and dwellings; ambulatory health care services; specialty trade contractors; real estate; and

    membershipassociationsandorganizations.

    Totalgovernment(6,000jobs, 0.6percent)andmanufacturing(2,100jobs, 0.7percent)lostjobsovertheyear. These industryjob losseswerepartiallyduetodeclines infederalgovernmentandcomputerandelectronicproduct

    manufacturing.

    LocalAreaUnemploymentStatistics(NotSeasonallyAdjusted) InJuly2013,MonroeandWaltoncounties(4.2percenteach)hadthestateslowestunemploymentrates,followedby

    OkaloosaCounty

    (5.1

    percent),

    Franklin

    County

    (5.5

    percent),

    and

    St.

    Johns

    County

    (5.6

    percent).

    Many

    of

    the

    counties with the lowest unemployment rates were those with relatively high proportions of government

    employment. Seasonaltourismalsowasacontributingfactor.

    HendryCountyhadthehighestunemploymentrate(15.5percent) inFloridainJuly2013,followedbyFlaglerandSt.Luciecounties (10.4percenteach);PutnamCounty (10.0percent);and IndianRiverCounty (9.7percent). Hendry

    Countyhadthehighestunemploymentrateinthestate inJulyduetoseasonaldeclinesinagricultureandlongterm

    joblosses instategovernment. TherewerefourFloridacountieswithdoubledigitunemploymentrates lastmonth,

    upfromthreeinJune.

    AreaNonagriculturalEmployment(NotSeasonallyAdjusted) Twentyofthe22metroareasinthestatehadovertheyearjobgainsinJuly2013. Theareaswiththelargestgains

    were TampaSt. PetersburgClearwater (+41,900 jobs, +3.7 percent), OrlandoKissimmeeSanford (+23,200, +2.3

    percent),andJacksonville(+17,900jobs,+3.0percent).

    ThetwometroareasthatlostjobsovertheyearwerePanamaCityLynnHavenPanamaCityBeach(2,100jobs, 2.8percent)
