DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSESWe use defining relative clauses to add essential information

We use WHO / WHOM for people example:

The film director is the person who is responsible for the film.

We use WHICH for things example:

These are the cameras which are in the studio.

Page 5: Relative Pronouns

We use WHOSE for possesion

example:

I watched a film whose director is British.

We use WHERE for places

example:

This is the place where the actors dinner.

We use WHEN for time

example:

This is the day when the film was created.

We use THAT for things,people.

example:

This is the actor who/that I like most.

This is the film which/that I watched yesterday.

AND NOW... TAKE CARE!• WHO, WHICH (sometimes WHERE and

WHEN) can be OMITTED if they do not act as subject of the relative sentence.

Example : This is the person (WHO ) I met yesterday .

What is the subject of this sentence? The subject is I , for this reason

we CAN omitt who.

Example: This is the person WHO speaks English.

What is the subject of this sentence? The subject is who, for this

reason we CANNOT omitt the relative pronoun
