Lenten Sermon Series – Rehab

Our Lenten series in 2018 will follow the series from Discipleship Ministries of the United Methodist Church entitled – Rehab. In general, the word, rehabilitate, means to restore to a condition of good health; to restore to a good condition or operation; or to restore a person’s reputation. The annual observance of the Lenten discipline among Christians is a perfect way to seek restoration for our lives in spirit, mind, and body. It is a time to reflect, take stock of our spiritual condition, and realign our lives. Each Sunday of Lent will focus on the Scriptures that provide the core guidance for our Rehab journey. Our desired outcome is to learn how to live differently so that the way of Jesus becomes our “new normal.” Blessings for the journey! Celebrating Easter April 1, 2018 Christ is Risen! Hallelujah!

Saint Andrew United Methodist Church

Prelude Chiming of the Trinity

Bells of Saint Andrew Procession Redressing of Chancel Opening Praise (Screen) Alleluia! Alleluia! * Hymn No. 302 Christ the Lord Is Risen Today (verses 1-4)

Lighting of the Paschal Candle On this joyous morning, we celebrate that our Lord Jesus passed from death to life. We join with the whole company of God’s people in recalling and celebrating his victory over death and our deliver ance from the bondage of sin and darkness to everlasting light. Holy God, we come to you on this day celebrating the Resurrection; the new life you have given us through your Son, Jesus the Christ. We are called to living this new life in covenant with one another. We are called to love one another, and to forgive one another. We pray always for your kingdom, your reign to come, and your will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. As we celebrate eternal life today, help us to know that this life begins now. New life is given to us now! Call us into your ways of kingdom-building here on earth through love, peace, reconciliation and healing. In the name of the Risen Christ we pray. Amen.

The light of Christ rises in glory, overcoming the darkness of sin and death. Thanks be to God!

*Affirmation of Faith I Believe

In spite of many unanswered questions, I believe.

I believe in the living God, the joy of the universe, who is the pulse and purpose of all things seen and unseen, who from the dust of earth calls up living beings to be children of eternity, who through countless ages has provided for us many liberators and tirelessly seeks to bring victory out of defeat and life out of decay.

I believe in Jesus, the Christ, God’s true Son, who is bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh, who took upon himself the healing of the human race, who bearing the burden of our sins went to Golgotha carrying his cross, who was betrayed, crucified, dead and buried in a borrowed tomb, who on the third day was found to be gloriously alive, meeting with those who trust him and serve him to the end of the world.

I believe in the Holy Spirit of God, within and among all who cherish Christ and his way, who brings hope out of despair, love out of apathy, and joy out of sorrow,

who unceasingly regenerates and reforms the church that it may always be the contemporary body of the risen Christ, loving the world through prayer, word and deed. I believe that even I am caught up in the resurgent life of Jesus, the Christ, and that nothing in life or death can separate me from his love and joy. In spite of unanswered questions, yes I believe. Amen! Blessing and Sending Forth J. R. and Ann Thomas *Hymn No. 310 He Lives *Benediction *Closing Praise (Screen) Crown Him King of Kings

Today is a day to fellowship with God and

been cancelled for today.

Both will resume on April 8, 2018.

Page 6: Rehab St. Andrew United Methodist Churchgeneral, the word, rehabilitate, means to restore to a condition of good health; to restore to a good condition or operation; or to restore

United Christian Ministries (UCM) was formed in 1989 to meet the basic needs of

persons in crisis in Pickens County and parts of Powdersville. When they opened

their doors they had the support of approximately 48 churches. Presently, over 80

area churches provide resources through faithful financial gifts, donations of food,

and clothing. The heart and hands of the organization is the volunteers who give of

their time to help out. Our church has several members who are faithful to

volunteer weekly at UCM.

Recently, some of their funding has been cut, grants have stopped or were not

awarded. So they have a financial need as well as pantry needs.

The current pantry needs are:

Canned Meals: Beef Stew, Chicken & Dumplings, Spaghetti Os, Ravioli, etc.

Canned Meats:

Tuna, Salmon, Chicken, Ham, etc.

Also,

Juices, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Rice, Dried Beans, Spaghetti, Spaghetti sauces (no

glass), Mac & Cheese, canned fruits, cereal, grits, oatmeal, saltine crackers, toilet

paper, laundry detergent and bar soap.

Thank you for your support.
