VILLAGE OF BROWN DEERPARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENTINFORMATIONGeneral InformationThe Village of Brown Deer Park and Recreation Department isresponsible for the development and operation of recreationprograms and park facilities in Brown Deer. Department policiesand procedures are governed by the Brown Deer Park andRecreation Committee. Committee meetings are held on thesecond Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in Village Hall and areopen to the public.

The Department Offices of the Director and Supervisor will berelocated to the new DPW building. Programming registrationsand permits for the Village Park Shelters and the Lois and TomDolan Community Center will still be accepted at the front deskat Village Hall. Village Hall, 4800 W. Green Brook Drive isopen Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

REGISTER EARLY! If a program does not meet its minimumregistration requirement within five days of the start date of theprogram, the program may be cancelled.

Residency PolicyIndividuals who live in the Village of Brown Deer and studentswho attend Brown Deer schools may register for programs asresidents. 2018 Resident I.D. cards may be obtained at the Parkand Recreation Department in the Village Hall during officehours.

Fees and Refunds PolicyProgram fees are established to recover the direct operationalcosts of each facility and program. All fees must be paid at thetime of registration. Fees will not be prorated for individualswho are unable to attend all sessions of a program.

Full refunds will be issued if a program is cancelled orchanged by the Park and Recreation Department. When a singleprogram session is cancelled due to weather or change infacility availability, no refunds will be issued.

Full or partial refunds of instructional and membership feeswill be issued only in situations when an individual or family isunable to participate because of a medical condition or unusualcircumstance. Full or partial refunds of instructional andmembership fees will be subject to a 20% administrativefee.

Program PoliciesInclement Weather No programs, conducted in schoolbuildings, will be held when the schools are closed due toinclement weather. Insurance The Park and Recreation Department does notprovide hospital or medical insurance coverage for individualswho participate in sponsored programs. Participants are advisedto obtain their own insurance coverage prior to registration inany program.Physician Referral Participants who are over 40 years of ageor who have health problems are advised to consult a physicianprior to registration in adult fitness classes.Photographs For program promotion purposes, photographsmay be taken of participants during a program. If you do notwant your or your child’s photograph taken, please advise theclass instructor.Child Care Child care is not provided for adult programs.Children are not permitted to attend adult programs withoutsupervision of another adult who is not actively participating inthe activity.Program Confirmations Confirmations will not be sent.Assume you are enrolled and plan to attend unless otherwisenotified. Waiting Lists The Park and Recreation Department will makeevery effort to accommodate individuals on waiting lists. If anopening becomes available, you will be contacted by telephone.

Adaptive ProgramPursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Brown DeerPark and Recreation Department will make all reasonableaccommodations for persons with disabilities to participate indepartment programs, services and activities. If you requirespecial accommodations to participate in a departmentprogram, please let us know when you register.

AMERICAN RED CROSSLEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM

Swim assessments are offered to swimmers who arenew to our Swim Lessons or who are returning after abreak from lessons. Staff will provide one-on-one skillscreening for placement and will introduce new swimmersto the Brown Deer Middle/High School Pool. Learn to Swim ProgramOpen to Children and TeensAmerican Red Cross water safety classes will be held atthe Brown Deer Middle/High School and the Brown DeerPond. Classes at the pool will be 4 weeks long, 2 nights aweek. Classes at the Pond will be 2 weeks long, Mondaythrough Thursday. Participantslearn to jump into deep water from the side, dive fromkneeling or standing position, perform front and back floatfor 30 seconds, swim front crawl for 15 yards, swim backcrawl for 15 yards, the butterfly kick and the butterflybody motion.Level 4: Develops confidence and strength to improveskills learned and introduces new aquatic skills.Participants learn to swim underwater, perform a feet-firstsurface dive, perform open turns on their front and back,tread water for one minute, swim front and back crawl for25 yards, swim breaststroke and elementary backstrokefor 15 yards, swim butterfly for 15 yards and swim ontheir sides using a scissors kick for 15 yards.Level 5: Provides further coordination and refinement ofstrokes, swimming further distances. enter the Pond.• Individuals may wade waist-deep in Pond water.• Balls and soft-thrown toys are allowed. No sticks!• Individuals must bring a bag and pick up their dog’s

Bike Club is a new program offered for 10 – 15 yearolds. The focus of this club is to learn biking safety and toexplore the Brown Deer Area and Interurban Trail on twowheels. The costof field trips is included in the price of the program.Students will be divided into three groups (K5-2nd grade,3rd & 4th grade, 5th & 6th grade) and each group will dotheir own age-appropriate activities and go on three age-appropriate field trips.

Participants may register for the afternoon session orall day. Students registering for the all-day program andstudents who will be coming from Summer School willhave access to a free lunch, daily. The Milwaukee Tennis & Education Foundation (MTEF)partners with the Brown Deer Park andRecreation Department and the BrownDeer School District to present MTEFSummer TEAM Tennis. Participantslearn fundamental of the sportincluding forehands, backhandsvolleys and serves throughcompetitive and non-competitivegames and drills. Using the USTA NetGeneration format younger participants use modifiedequipment and courts tailored to their age and size.MTEF curriculum includes academic enrichment, nutrition,fitness and life skills to help develop champions on andoff the court.

The MTEF TEAM Program includes two hours of tennisinstruction, 30 minutes of academics and 30 minutes ofnutrition & fitness. Registration includes age-appropriateracquet, ball and t-shirt.

Summer track league is for ages 6 – 13with events including sprints, relays,jumps, throws, and distances up toone mile. The league is co-ed andhas several teams. All youth leaguetrack meets and practices are heldat the Homestead High SchoolTrack. Parents choose which practiceday works best for them, either Mondayor Tuesday. The first date of June 20 is a “Practice”Meet. All Participants are to be at the HomesteadTrack at 5:30 p.m. that day and teams are formed forthe season. The league is designed to be a fun andhealthy event and is meant for all abilities. All participantswill receive a team shirt. Any questions can be directed toJames DeMarco at [email protected].

2020 soccer season. Brown Deer is part of the MilwaukeeKickers Soccer Club and offers area youth the opportunityto learn and play the game of soccer in a fun and friendlyenvironment. Boys and girls teams are coached by parentvolunteers and participate in leagues formed by birth year.

The 2019-2020 season consists of a Fall and Springseason with an 8-game outdoor schedule per season.Practices are on weeknights and games are played on theweekends against other area teams.
