OUR CENTER PHILOSOPHY

The Methodist Weekday Child Development Center (MWCDC) operates as part of the Weekday ministries program for the early childhood development of the Brenham First United Methodist Church. The Weekday School has been in operation since 1958. The purpose of the extended care program in a loving Christian environment, which will benefit the child, the parent, and the community. We believe young children learn through direct interaction with their environment and that they learn best when all their senses are involved. Exploration, questioning and experimenting with real objects, people and situations gives them a solid foundation of knowledge and learning skills. This hands-on learning teaches children to problem solve, hypothesize, question, and explain. These skills are essential for future academic success. The MWCDC also places a strong emphasis on social skills and effective communication with other children and adults. We focus on the whole child by nurturing the spiritual, social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth of each child to develop to their full potential. With a loving partnership between home, school, and church, working together as a team in the spirit of our Christ Jesus, results in the success of our children.

OUR GOALS

1. To encourage learning why or how something works. 2. To encourage learning that allows the child to work and play with others. 3. To encourage learning to create and build with pleasure. 4. To encourage learning to take responsibility for behavior. 5. To encourage learning to appreciate strengths/accommodate limitations in others and

one’s self. 6. To encourage learning about the earth and how to take care of it. 7. To teach that every person is worthy of God's love and the love of others.

Texas Rising Star

Methodist Weekday Child Development is a Star Texas Rising Star Center

Texas Rising Star is a quality rating and improvement system for Texas early childhood programs.

Choosing a high quality program can have a significant impact on your child’s readiness for success in kindergarten and later grades. Children who attend high quality programs, especially at-risk children, can make significant gains in their knowledge, skills, and abilities. In Texas, child care programs can pursue higher quality through several avenues. Texas Rising Star is one of these options for child care providers, and for parents looking for high quality child care for their children.

The Texas Rising Star program is “a voluntary, quality-based child care rating system of child care providers participating in the Texas Workforce Commission’s subsidized child care program.” TRS Certification is available to Licensed Center and Licensed and Registered Child Care Home providers who meet the certification criteria. The TRS Provider certification system offers three levels of certification (Two-Star, Three-Star, and Four-Star) to encourage providers to attain progressively higher certification requirements leading to a Four-Star level.

Texas Rising Star offers many resources for parents of young children. You can explore their website, learn about Texas Rising Star, and quality child care in Texas. https://texasrisingstar.org/

POLICIESBITING

All young children bite at some time, usually out of frustration. The MWCDC staff are trained to separate the one who bit so he/she has a chance to calm down while first aid and TLC are administered to the one bitten. The parents of both children involved are notified by an Accident Form will be given and need to be signed and return it to the office/ teacher. *If a child bites other children three times in one day, we will ask the parent(s) to pick up the child for the day. *If the child bites and breaks skin, he/she will be sent home for the day. We will have a mandatory parent conference. * If the child bites and breaks skin two days in a row and they will be suspend for three days.*Chronic biters will not be allowed to remain in school and will be withdrawn until biting is more controlled.

Hitting/Fighting PoliciesThe MWCDC staff are trained to separate the one whom is hitting/fighting so he/she has

a chance to calm down while first aid and TLC are administered to each child. The parents of both children involved are notified by a phone call that day and Accident Form will be given and need to be signed and return it to the office/ teacher.*If a child hits/fight a child or teacher three times in one day, we will ask the parent(s) to pick up the child for the day. *If a child hits/fight, he/she will be sent home for the day. We will have a mandatory parent conference. * If the child is hitting/fighting two days in a row and they will be suspend for three days.*Chronic Hitter/fighter will not be allowed to remain in school and will be withdrawn until hitting/fighting is more controlled.

SUSPENSIONConstant biting and breaking skin, constant fighting/hitting pierces and teachers or Tuition Policies may result in suspension from MWCDC.

DISCIPLINEThe word “discipline” is from the root word “disciple” and means “to teach”. The

MWCDC takes the policy directly from the guidelines set by The Texas Minimum Standards. The MWCDC uses a positive approach to discipline by helping children understand age appropriate behavior. The MWCDC Director and staff allow the children to develop self-discipline and inner control over their actions. No corporal punishment is allowed at MWCDC or on property by parents. We will do everything that our policies allow. (After that you will be called to pick up your child. If it continues your child may be dropped from enrollment.)

CHANGES IN POLICY

8

Page 9: REGISTRATION · Web viewThe MWCDC will follow the Brenham Independent School District plan for closings and delayed openings in the event of severe weather. Please check TV stations

Parents are notified in writing and in advance of any change in policy. Notices are placed in each child’s VIP folder located on top or inside of your child cubby. Therefore, it is vital that these places be checked for information each day. Ample time will be given for parents to respond before the change is scheduled to take place. Immediate changes in policy will occur only when the safety of the children or staff is in question or as mandated by the State of Texas.

DEPARTUREIf someone other than a parent comes for a child, the office must receive a note, even if

that person is in the child’s folder as eligible to take him/her from the Center. This is for safety reasons and prevents any sort of confusion over who is picking up the child. The MWCDC Office must have a record of that individual’s name and his/her PIN. Each time someone other than a parent picks up a child, the staff will ask to see that person's driver’s license. If a pick-up person other than a parent picks up a child regularly, the staff will ask for a driver’s license until they recognize that person. Your child will not be released to anyone under the age of 18.In emergencies or special circumstances, we will accept a phone call from a parent on the day of pick-up, but that person must be on the pick-up list.

Every child is required to be in a Car Seat or Booster Seat as it is a State Law. As child care providers, the MWCDC staff is required to contact DFPS when child seats are not being used by persons picking up a child.

CONFIDENTIALITYAt MWCDC we practice a confidentiality policy. This means we can only discuss matters

that with you that concern your child. Please contact the director with any concerns.

CHAPEL Chapel is Monday or Tuesday at 9:05am and consists of a prayer, a story and music.

Parents are always welcome to join us. The Chapel is led by one of our clergypersons. Each class reinforces the Chapel lesson in the classroom setting during circle time.

CLASSROOM SCHEDULES

It is vital that the children stay on the daily schedule. It has been proven that children respond better when they are surrounded by familiarity and routine. Creativity can then happen within those boundaries. Part of our responsibility is to make certain that the children learn certain social skills and group dynamics. We accomplish this learning by staying on a daily schedule.

Schedules Include: Socializing and Breakfast time Circle time/ Learning actives Chapel Center time Outside time Lunch/ Socializing Art time
