Introduction It is essential to impart practical industry orient-ed training to the students so as to increase the employability. Bridging the skill gap between industry and institute is the need of the day especially for emerging fields like computer science. The students and faculty must be aware of latest technological advancements and industry environment. Also, motivation is required to promote entrepreneurship. The institute has excellent academic infrastructure equipped with ICT facilities. The institute also possess strong pool of illustrious alumni em-ployed with premier software companies and defence organizations. However, it is felt that quality of students can be improved only with strong industry linkage.

Objectives

The objective of workshop is to develop close links with industry given as below:

• Identify the opportunities for student project

work/ internship in industries.

• Encourage the department level tie-ups or

MoUs with industries for the mutual benefit.

• Enable students improve their skill sets for

employability.

• Promote consultancy services to industry by

faculty members.

• Organize workshops and seminars by indus-

try experts.

• Develop R&D Laboratories/ incubation centre

sponsored by industries at the Institute.

• Enrich the teaching learning process and

curriculum development through participation

of experts from industry.

• Provide industrial training and visits for stu-

dents and faculty members so as to develop

awareness about the job functions in the

industry.

• Promote research and development activities

with industry.

The Institute

The School of Computer Science & IT

(SCSIT) was established in 1986. The

department since then has endeavoured

into promoting technical education and

research in the important and fast growing

branches of Information Technology. It is

an autonomous department under Devi

Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya with its goal set to

produce computer science specialists to

meet the global challenges. Our depart-

ment is one of the pioneers in the central

region to start computer science educa-

tion. Also, the department is supported by

UGC-SAP and DST-FIST schemes.

The department has eight laboratories

with 300 computers of modern configura-

tions, one digital lab, and four multipro-

cessor servers. All laboratories have Inter-

net connectivity with 100 MBPS band-

width leased line and Wi-Fi facility. We

have SPSS tools and licensed antivirus

software. We have three state of the art

seminar halls, one faculty meeting hall,

eight lecture halls with ICT facility, six

tutorial rooms, one placement cell etc.

The departmental library is well equipped

library with a blend of text books required

for teaching and research, online journals,

17000 books, SOUL software and RFID

security system. Entire campus is covered

under CCTV surveillance. The department

is supported by University Computer Cen-

tre and IT Centre.

Academics & Teaching

The department is running Ph.D. pro-

gramme in Computer Science, M.Tech by

Research, M.Tech (Computer Science,

Information Architecture & Software Engi-

neering, Network Management & Infor-

mation Security), MCA, M.Sc.(CS), M.Sc.

(IT), MBA(CM) and BCA under CBCS sys-

tem. M.Tech students are admitted through

GATE score and MCA students are admit-

ted though VYAPAM. Department conducts

its own exam for admitting students in

Ph.D., M.Tech by Research, M.Sc., MBA,

and BCA courses.

The curriculum is regularly updated keep-

ing in view the industrial needs and techno-

logical growth. The curriculum includes

core subjects along with advanced topics

such as cloud computing, big data analyt-

ics, software reuse, information security,

soft computing, software testing, ERP etc.

Courses are taught through state of the art

methods with ICT facilities. Most of the

courses cover project based and case

based teaching learning pedagogy. De-

partment regularly organises technical

events in association with industry to sup-

plement the teaching.

Research and Consultancy

The department has strong Ph.D. pro-

gramme focused on fundamental research.

Around 40 students are currently pursuing

Ph.D. in an endeavour to produce original

research work. The school actively collabo-

rates with government agencies such as

AICTC, UGC, DST, and MPCST for R&D

support. The faculty members have pub-

lished several books, research papers in

reputed journals and conferences and have

engaged themselves in various sponsored

research projects. Also, the department

regularly organizes seminars, workshops

and conferences on emerging trends and

cutting edge technologies.

Faculty Expertise

The Institute has very good faculty with doctoral

and post graduate qualifications obtained from

very reputed Institutions. They have expertise in a

wide spectrum of Science, Engineering and Tech-

nology. There are thirty faculty members with

expertise in various domains like big data, data

mining, cloud computing, IoT, mobile computing,

information security, software engineering, pro-

gramming languages, ERP Applications, CASE

tools and so on. Our faculty are active members

of IEEE, ACM, CSI, ICIET and various profession-

al bodies.

Faculty members are invited as subject experts

for delivering lectures in vaious national/

international conferences/ workshops and

seminars. The senior faculty members provide

subject expertise in vaious national level

committees like NAAC, NBA, AICTE etc. Faculty

are the members of various technical committees

such as RRCAT Indore, National Research

Centre for Soyabean (NRCS) Indore, I2IT Pune,

IIT Indore and IIIT Jabalpur. Also, faculty

membres are involved in providing consultancy to

Police/ IMC/ Social Organisations, MP Online

activities and various other organizations.

Placement and Alumni

Placement process is a continuous activity in

SCSIT, which commences throughout the

academic year. Various companies visit the

department every year for recruiting students

and avail them the opportunity to work in

challenging projects and cross cultural envi-

ronment. Among the esteemed companies,

the regularly visiting are Accenture, TCS,

Infosys, Cognizant, Capgemini, CSC, Teklink

and so on. Students of various courses who

are placed in these companies are excelling

in their respective projects and areas. Com-

panies also offer student to undergo intern-
