This annual fall program providesinformation for the RegisteredNurse on the current and future
trends in practice in the Critical Caresetting. Its objective is to highlight areas that
may provide new knowledge, skill, oropportunity for implementing concepts that improvepatient outcomes and quality of care.

Presenter BiosMichael H. AckermanAt Niagara University, Mr. Ackermanworks collaboratively with the directorand faculty on curriculum design andprogram evaluation. He teachesmedical surgical nursing, pharmacology andleadership. As the principal of a healthcare andleadership consulting company, he specializes incritical care lectures.
Theresa L. BaxterMs. Baxter specializes in assessing andmanaging pain medications, epiduralsand nerve blocks. She manages acuteand chronic pain for children andadults. In addition, she is a facilitator with theUpstate Nurse Residency program.
Richard J. KingDr. King is board certified in bothGeneral Surgery and Surgical CriticalCare. He has practiced medicineinternationally with NATO. In addition,Dr. King has a degree in Governmentand International Relations, andpursued graduate studies at the Simon School ofBusiness.
Mark R. LaftaviDr. Laftavi has an established trackrecord in performing single and multi-visceral transplants, building clinicaltransplant programs and intransplantation research. Dr. Laftavihas published more than 350 abstracts andmanuscripts in national and international journals.
Christopher J. NormanMr. Norman specializes in care of theelderly. He is the team leader of themultidisciplinary Acute Care for the Elderly(ACE) team. He is also a steering member of theNurses Improving Care for Health System Elderly(NICHE) committee.
Travis RoyMr. Roy speaks on conquering life’s hurdles,setting goals and his overall experiences inlife. Roy and Sports Illustrated writer E.M.Swift wrote his autobiography, ElevenSeconds. Travis set up the Travis Roy Foundation, tohelp spinal cord injury survivors and to fund researchfor a cure.
Lucy RuangvoravatDr. Ruangvoravat is board certified inSurgical Critical Care. She has givennumerous lectures and presentations in theNortheast. Dr. Ruangvoravat is an activemember of multiple hospital committees and hasparticipated in several international medical missions.
Sue StullMs. Stull provides recommendations forenteral and parenteral nutrition support formedical, surgical and critically ill patients.She provides inservice training for medical-surgical residents and nurses. Sue alsoprecepts for Syracuse University Dietetic students.
Christopher T. TanskiDr. Tanski is the co-chair of the ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)committee. He has co-written andpublished several articles since 2014. Dr.Tanski is an Upstate Medical Universityalum and an active community member.
