3 Charles Coleman Sellers, "Lorenzo Dow, the Bearer of the Word" (1928 - Minton, Balch & Co), Quote from Internet, Dow was born in Coventry, Connecticut on October 15, 1777 to Yankee Presbyterian parents and died in Georgetown, DC on February 2, 1823, buried in Washington, DC. He was one of the first Protestant preachers in the West and Southwest states and territories, *distinguished for his labors and eccentricities*. Converted to Methodism as a teenager and began preaching in 1796. He was never really accepted by the Methodist establishment but remained loyal to the Methodist church all his life. He traveled throughout the country, holding field and tent meetings. He also made at least two trips to Ireland and England. he did own land in Mississippi Territory. Dow applied for a patent in 1820 for "Lorenzo Dow's Family Medicine". Many pioneer women were so taken with Rev Dow's preaching that many sons were named after him.
