They say “Time flies when you’re having fun”, and that is certainly true for me! I began my ministry as DRE May 2017, and this has been a wonderful, fun-filled, fast-paced year. For those of you who know me, you know that I’m truly a child at heart. I enjoy having fun, I love kids, and I love serving the Lord with my life. (If you’re wondering just how much fun I’m talking about, check out the pictures and videos uploaded on the Sacred Heart Facebook page! Some good stuff on there.) I found my vocation, my life’s calling, in this ministry of being DRE here at Sacred Heart. To be able to bear witness to the Holy Spirit working in young people’s lives and to assist in preparing them for first sacraments is truly a blessing and an honor. The early years of faith formation are so very important.

Children are impressionable, and to lay the foundation of loving the Lord with your whole heart at a young age has the capability to set the tone and pace for one’s entire life. If you have young children, I urge you to take the time to bring them to Mass every week, talk about the readings and the homily, implement the scriptures and Church teachings into your everyday life, so it becomes a part of their lives as much as it is yours to love Jesus and His Church. Our CCD program begins on August 12 with an orientation session in the church after the 9:00 Mass. Then instruction begins on August 19. If you can, pick up a registration form in the church narthex or the church office. Lines can be long on the first day of instruction, so whatever you can do prior to the start date is appreciated. Please bring a copy of your child’s Baptism certificate and First Communion certificate, if applicable. “Each day the people are to go out and gather their daily portion; thus will I test them, to see whether they follow my instructions or not.” ~Exodus 16:4 When the Israelites gathered more than their daily portion of manna, the surplus became wormy and rotten. In the same way today, self-reliance, pride and ego leads to hoarding and excessive surplus of goods and money. Living a stewardship lifestyle helps us discern our “wants” from our “needs”. Living a generous lifestyle reminds us that God will provide all that we need and that we have plenty to share.

CELEBRATE RECOVERY

A Celebrate Recovery testimony is a personal story of struggle and victory presented by someone who has completed the CR 12 Step program. Hearing someone’s testimony lets us know that we are not alone with our burdens. HELPING HANDS Recently, I had a small repair done on one of my feet and have been on the scooter instead of walking. That event has caused me to consider how ministers approach and descend the altar platform. While my situation is temporary, we do have various ministers who have long-term limitations. And our sanctuary platform is configured in such a way as to accommodate many of these limitations and do so safely. The ramp at the back of the platform allows someone with challenges

climbing and descending steps to walk a slanted safe surface both on and off and to do so very inconspicuously. And there is a sturdy handrail installed on the south side of the platform which gives that steadying hand for the steps. These features have been installed for the comfort and safety of all of us who serve at the liturgy. Please do not hesitate to take advantage of them. It is much better to do so than to risk missing a step or having trouble getting up. You might consider choosing seating adjacent to these features if you think they will help you remain fully involved and active in ministry. If you wish to be assigned a serving position convenient to the ramp or the railing, just ask your Mass shepherd. That’s easy to accomplish.

On Sunday evening in St. Joseph Church after the 5:00 pm Mass we will say a Rosary for LIFE and then head downstairs for dinner and a talk by Sister Elizabeth! CLOSE ENCOUNTER OF THE JESUS KIND: Do you remember your CCD teacher explaining that each of the sacraments is a personal encounter with the living Christ? Once we have truly experienced such an encounter, it is a fact that we more often see Jesus in our everyday lives. Cursillo is another of those close encounters. The Cursillo weekend is 3 days of prayer and fellowship and learning and sharing in a comfortable environment with

others who love Christ and want to know him better. The upcoming weekends in the Diocese of Savannah will take place 6-9 September for the ladies and 13-16 September for the gentlemen. The leadership teams are in

EL TRABAJO QUE DIOS QUIERE

¡Estamos tan ocupados! Muchos de nosotros tenemos más de un trabajo y parecería

que nunca tenemos suficiente tiempo. Somos trabajadores, voluntarios, padres, amigos y la

mayoría es más de una cosa a la vez. Pero, ¿cuál de estos es el trabajo que Dios quiere?

Rara vez vemos nuestro trabajo común como el trabajo que Dios quiere. Quizás pensamos

que debemos ser ministros o sacerdotes, misioneros o benefactores, que debemos realizar trabajos de tiempo completo que se consideran

como “las obras de Dios”. Pero todo lo que hacemos con un corazón fiel y con amor por el prójimo es una obra de Dios. Cada uno tiene un

papel que cumplir en el mundo y muchos dones son necesarios. No siempre podemos ver la relación

directa que existe entre nuestro trabajo diario y los designios de Dios. Pero confiamos y tenemos fe en

que Dios nos guía a hacer lo que es necesario, cuando es necesario. ¿Cuál es “la obra de Dios?” “La obra de Dios consiste en que crean en aquél a

quien él ha enviado” (Juan 6:29).
