Dear Saints Families,

What a great Catholic Schools Week we had last week and we are now gearing up for fun with Father/Daughter Date night and Steps for Students thanks to our wonderful PTO. Last Saturday was our first screening day for PreK and Kindergarten applicants. What a joy to see all those sweet little faces as we met prospective Saints of the future! Please let your friends and family know that we are currently accepting applications and thanks SO much for the great Saints pride pictures and heartfelt shout- outs on social media. This school belongs to all of us and we are incredibly proud of the wonderful team effort everyone has put forth this year to provide a safe and successful learning environment. Thank you for trusting in us and working with us to make sure that this school year happened for our students. One of our amazing parents sent this article HERE from the Wall Street Journal that outlines how our Catholic Schools nationwide weren’t afraid to take that first step or leap into deep waters during a pandemic. It is so sad to hear that many other educational systems continue to debate and work on reopening plans to this day! At this time we are working very hard on completing a school calendar for 2021-2022 and determining where we go from here. We all want to get back to “normal” and do what we do best. We miss all the wonderful events, enrichment and community. Pray that we have the best information and discernment to continue this journey as safely as possible for the remainder of this school year. As we begin Lent next week, (see links below for some great family Lenten activities), we are given the opportunity to make amends for anything holding us back from what God wants for us and hopefully be rewarded with the very best Easter we can possibly imagine. THE EMPATHY QUIZ  

Empathy is the heart of Love and Logic and we need to show it to our kids or students even more now during the current pandemic. If we consistently fail to communicate a sincere desire to understand what kids are going through now, we aren’t using Love and Logic. There are times when I blow it. Does this happen to you? FISH FRY Leave it to the Knights of Columbus to figure out how to do a Fish Fry in a pandemic! For six Fridays in Lent starting February 19, they’ll host a DRIVE-THRU Fish Fry! Place orders online HERE (before 7:00 p.m. on Thursday) and pick up on Friday between 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Choose from Fish Dinner ($10) or Spaghetti Dinner ($5) and you’ll get green beans, coleslaw, tater tots & hush puppies. A limited number of grilled fish dinners will be prepared, so if that’s your preference, get there early and tell the guys when you pull up. Drive-up orders are also accepted, but please have exact change or your credit card ready. To get in the pickup line, please enter from the driveway on Austin Parkway and follow the directions given by the friendly KCs in the parking lot.

TUITION ASSISTANCE FOR 2021-2022 

The process to apply for Tuition Assistance for the 2021-2022 school year has begun. Completing the FACTS online application will qualify eligible families to be considered for assistance from the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston

and from St. Laurence Catholic School. The deadline to be considered for Archdiocesan assistance is February 19, 2021. Click HERE for more information.

IMPORTANT STEPS FOR STUDENTS REMINDERS 

● Hurry! Register by today, February 10th, to participate (or snooze) in Steps - and your kiddos can wear Valentine’s shirts to school tomorrow, February 11th.

● Anyone who is registered for Steps by February 12th will have their shirt & race swag sent home from SLCS with their child next week. Anyone registering after February 12, will have to go pick up your own gear at Archdiocesan offices. Save yourself a trip!

● There is still time to fundraise & earn chances to win FANTASTIC prizes - Bike valued at $600, Slime Fr. Truong Son, Mystery Prizes, Kona Ice & Dance Party, just to name a few, and if we reach our school goal of $25,000 Mrs. Barto will go Red & Blue!   FATHER – DAUGHTER DATE DRIVE THRU EVENT 

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH 5:00-7:00 PM  

In place of the annual Father-Daughter Dance, mark your calendar on February 13th to take your daughter out. Put on your party best and visit SLCS between 5:00-7:00 PM for a drive-thru event. We’ll present your daughter with a flower, and Houston Photo Booth will be available to take your pictures. You’ll leave with a printed image as well as a text link. We have also connected with BFW Pizza, so you’ll be able to pick up an incredible, organic pizza at the same time.

SAINTS YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE The middle school students have enjoyed playing in the Saints Youth Basketball League. It has been a great competition and lots of fun! We were blessed to be able to provide this to our students due to the decision by the GHCAA to cancel many sports.

Everyone will be ready to take on the other schools next year!

Please remember that you must order your child’s lunch from Sami’s Catering by Friday for the following week. Please make sure that your child has sufficient funds in his/her account in order to avoid any disruption to their lunch service. Take note that if you order, you will be charged, whether or not your child changes his/her mind. If your child is out sick, please email the cafeteria at cafeteria@stlaurence.org, by 7:00 a.m. that morning so Sami’s will know not to make your child’s lunch and to avoid a charge to your account. ASHES AT CHURCH Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and all around the world, Catholics will get ashes sprinkled on top of the head instead of a cross on the forehead. Here at St. Laurence, we’ll have our usual 3 Masses and 3 services on Ash Wednesday. Though it’s not a holy day of obligation, people come, so please understand if we hit capacity. ASHES AT HOME If you stay home, here is a simple Ash Wednesday Prayer Service for families to prayerfully enter into the season of Lent together. Make ashes from your intentions written on small slips of paper, with a promise to return to God with all your heart.
