Comprehensive Advancement Model -The Regis Catholic Schools Business Plan-

To respond to the financial challenges that most Catholic schools face today, in January 2011, the Regis Catholic Schools Founda on engaged The Advancement Counsel (TAC). TAC provided an assessment of the current RCS development efforts and programs. Since that ini al assessment nine months ago much has been accomplished!

The top priority of Regis Catholic Schools is, and always has been, our students. We support the student learning environment by incorpora ng our Core Values into all aspects of RCS, and by making sure we have the resources necessary to prepare the students for leadership in church and society. With the support of our pastors, families, and other stakeholders, we began implemen ng the Comprehensive Advancement  Model. The Comprehensive Advancement Model is a proven successful Catholic school business plan.

Based on our Comprehensive Advancement Model, we have 10 goals that we are focusing on today.

1. Establishing a metable for Non‐Revenue and Revenue program implementa on

2. Aligning personnel by core func on and advancement responsibili es 3. Hos ng Targeted Major Gi Awareness Sessions 4. Cra ing a Communica ons Plan 5. Enhancing a Volunteer Leadership program and opportuni es 6. Enhancing stakeholder rela onships 7. Enhancing Enrollment Management prac ces 8. Establishing “Special Event” guidelines and best prac ces 9. Invigora ng the “Regis Fund” 10. Celebra ng successes and thanking stakeholders

Accomplishments since January 2011 include progress on implemen ng the Comprehensive Advancement Model, securing $122,000 in commitments to the Cost of Educa on Partnership program, receiving commitments for $1.7 million from the Pacese er Phase of the Targeted Major Gi s program, and seeing enrollment increases for 2011‐2012.

Thanks to all of you who have taken ac on and provided RCS with this wonderful start! In accordance with the RCS Core Values, we respond to challenges and pursue con nuous improvement —we owe it to our students because we ask them to do the same.

“The RCS leadership team is professional and mo vated. Their willingness to provide all

requested informa on and to implement new, progressive efforts for our Catholic schools has

allowed the level of trust within the pastoral leadership to grow exceedingly. We are truly blessed.” -Father Konopa, RCS Pastoral Dean — St. Olaf Parish

Advancement Model Funding Initiatives -Three Giving Programs-

We believe that everyone can help Regis Catholic Schools with a growing sense of shared responsibility.

Whether it is your prayers, spirit of  volunteerism, words in support of our Catholic schools, or your generous  dona ons — each of us has the ability to help shape the future of RCS.

For financial support, RCS has established three tax‐deduc ble giving programs. The three giving programs are as follows:

Regis Fund (Annual Fund) The Regis Fund is an annual giving program seeking contribu ons from Friends and Alumni who are not current families of RCS.  The Regis Fund was set up to help preserve the legacy of our Catholic schools, and keep Regis Catholic Schools thriving for the future leaders of tomorrow. Charitable gi s, typically ranging from $20 to $10,000, made to the Regis Fund are considered unrestricted and enhance curriculum, materials, and programs for our students that we are unable to fund through other revenue sources.

Cost of Educa on Partnership Program (COEP) The Cost of Educa on Partnership is an annual giving program seeking contribu ons from Current RCS Families.  The COEP program informs and educates all RCS families about the actual cost of educa on to a end Regis Catholic Schools. We hope each current RCS family will consider making a charitable commitment above and beyond the stated tui on to help meet the actual cost of their child’s educa on. For 2011‐2012, the COEP program received gi s ranging from $20 to $10,412. Whether your family can offer a $20 commitment or a $10,000 commitment, we thank you for partnering with RCS in support of your child’s educa on. Charitable gi s made to the COEP program are considered unrestricted and enhance curriculum, materials, and programs for our students that we are unable to fund through other revenue sources.

Targeted Major Gi s (TMG) The Regis Catholic Schools Founda on, in partnership with RCS, is involved in a Targeted Major Gi s program. The Targeted Major Gi s program is a giving program that seeks major gi s, typically $10,000 to $25,000 and more, that can be paid over a period of three to five years. The charitable commitments realized from the TMG program will be recorded as either non‐restricted gi s to enhance the Founda on’s financial standing to support Regis Catholic Schools — or restricted gi s in support of specific Regis Catholic Schools programs or projects as iden fied by donor(s) and approved by the System Administra on.

“As I have go en older, I have realized that my Regis Catholic Schools

educa on has helped me to excel not only academically but spiritually as well.”

-RCS Student, Class of 2013

Whether it is your prayers, spirit of volunteerism, words in support of

our Catholic schools, or your  generous dona ons — each of us has the ability to help shape the  future of Regis Catholic Schools.

In the past, RCS has had an “Annual Appeal” program. While good effort and work was done to promote the annual appeal, the fund had limited success. As part of the Comprehensive Advancement Model and with the support of the RCS Founda on, we are introducing the Regis Fund to reinvigorate our prior annual fund effort.

The Regis Fund is designed to engage alumni, past families, and other friends of RCS with a spirit of shared commitment to keep our Catholic schools thriving for the future leaders of tomorrow. Current families will not be  solicited for the Regis Fund because they are asked to give to the Cost of Educa on Partnership Program.

As the funding of Catholic schools con nues to evolve, the overall cost of educa ng our children goes beyond the means of our parishes and many of our families. The Regis Fund is an opportunity for you to help share the responsibility within our Catholic community, to help educate our children, and to live our Core Values.

Why reinvigorate the Annual Fund? Last year the efforts of the Annual Fund generated $31,500 in revenue for RCS. This included generous dona ons from 250 alumni. While RCS is very grateful to these past donors, we also realize there is poten al for more alumni to be engaged and commi ed in support of our schools.

Regis High School alone has nearly 5,000 alumni. Imagine if half or more of these alumni each gave $100 annually to the Regis Fund. This would generate $250,000 or more in addi onal and much needed revenue for our Catholic schools.

Where does the money go? Revenue from The Regis Fund enhances curriculum, materials, and programs for our students that we are unable to fund through other revenue sources. This helps with all school improvement ini a ves. According to Joe Eisenhuth, Regis Catholic Schools President, “The Regis Fund is a vital part of our Comprehensive Advancement Model and serves as a collec ve call to ac on for our alumni and friends. A successful Regis Fund will help RCS respond to the moment in support of our students, staff and the future of our Catholic schools.”

Bill Uelmen, Regis Fund Director Bill Uelmen, past teacher, principal, and coach is the new Regis Fund Director. Bill commented, “Today I con nue my devo on and service to Regis Catholic Schools as the Regis Fund Director by reaching out and asking alumni to support our Catholic schools with a charitable contribu on.”

The Cost of Educa on Partnership (COEP) program was launched in April of 2011 as an annual giving program for current families. Gi s can range from $20 through $10,000 for this program. COEP Program: Two Purposes The COEP program is an annual program for current families with two purposes. The first purpose serves to inform and educate families that the tui on families are asked to pay is significantly less than the actual cost to educate their child. Regis Catholic Schools relies on contribu ons by its suppor ng parishes, and other sources of revenue, to make up the real cost difference. The second purpose of the COEP program is to ask families to reflect on their own financial situa on and if possible, consider a charitable contribu on to the COEP, as a means to more fully partner with Regis Catholic Schools in the cost of educa ng their child. 80 Families: $122,000 As of September 8th, we are pleased to announce that 80 families so far have commi ed over $122,000 in charitable contribu ons to the COEP program for the 2011‐2012 school year, with gi s ranging from $20 to $10,412. Thank you to all who have responded, especially those of you who have commi ed to more fully partner with RCS in the cost of educa ng your child by choosing to make a charitable contribu on. Where is the money going? Revenue from the COEP program enhances curriculum, materials, and programs for our students that we are unable to fund through other revenue sources. We have already put your investment in our COEP program to use, with some of the money going towards technology enhancements throughout all of the RCS schools.

Targeted Major Gifts Program -Large Donations, $10,000+ over a 3 to 5 Year Period -

The RCS Founda on has established a Targeted Major Gi s (TMG) program. Unlike a major capital campaign, the TMG program is a focused effort in which families, alumni, and friends offer targeted gi s to Regis Catholic Schools of typically $10,000 to $25,000 and more. O en these gi s are spread in payments over a period of three to five years.

RCS has iden fied the following uses for Targeted Major Gi s:

Building a Comprehensive Advancement Program

Tui on Scholarship Program Staff and Curriculum Development Technology and Teaching Materials Building and Facility Improvements

The first phase of the Targeted Major Gi s Program was the Pacese er Phase  which was recently completed. This phase spanned from January through June 2011. RCS and RCS Founda on representa ves met with donors individually and secured commitments of $1.7 million primarily for unrestricted use by RCS.

The second phase of the Targeted Major Gi s program is the Leadership Phase.  The Leadership Phase started in July 2011 and will run through December 31, 2011. During this phase, RCS representa ves will meet with 50 or more poten al donors seeking further support for our TMG program.

The Bourgets and The Daniels Families

Co ‐ Chairs of the Targeted Major Gi s Program

As Co‐Chairs of the Targeted Major Gi s Program, the Bourgets and

the Daniels are working with the RCS Founda on and the RCS

Advancement Team. They are currently mee ng with poten al

contributors seeking support for the TMG program.

Tina and Tony Bourget have

four children at Regis Catholic

Schools. An alum of Regis

Catholic Schools (’83), Tony

appreciates first hand that

RCS provides students with

an ideal environment for preparing for college and beyond. Having been

a beneficiary of the gi s that RCS offers, Tony and Tina are commi ed

to ensuring that RCS con nues to provide excellent faith‐based

educa on, available and affordable to all.

Amelia and Rick Daniels come

from Catholic families that had

li le means. They were the kids

whose parents could not afford

to send all the children in the

family to Catholic schools

without assistance. They were

given the opportunity to a end

by the generosity of anonymous

strangers. Being shaped and

blessed by that generosity and sacrifice, they came to RCS with a

commitment to help RCS and other families.

A Note From the Bourgets and Daniels:

“Through God’s grace, we lay a founda on as wise builders… and each

of us should build with care”. This verse from 1 Corinthians chapter 3

verse 10 has been food for thought and a prayer for the four of us as we

assist with the implementa on of the advancement program. It

reminds us of the sacrifices made by the sisters and parishes to

establish our schools, and the responsibility we have to build upon that

founda on. This verse, together with our Core Values, will be our

guiding principles as we move forward.

You are Invited To Contribute to the TMG Program. Please Contact Us!

If you are interested, please contact Joe or Todd to discuss the opportunity to contribute to the Targeted Major Gi s program.

RCS Teaching & Learning Initiative -Process to Improve Curriculum, Programs, Staff Development, & Communications-

Our Teaching and Learning Ini a ve is designed to help RCS improve curriculum, programs, faculty and staff development opportuni es, and system communica ons. Would you like to play a role in what Regis Catholic Schools looks like in the year 2020? We would like your help in our efforts to pursue con nuous improvement and to nurture a love of learning that will last a life me.

Over the past three months, many RCS parents, faculty and staff met during our Teaching & Learning Planning Sessions to translate our Core Values into ac ons. More than 100 people par cipated in these planning mee ngs facilitated by Be e Lang, Ed.D. of Improving Educa on, LLC and Linda Nor er, Ed.D., of George Williams College. Be y and Linda draw from significant and prac cal experience in helping schools make data driven decisions while ensuring that student achievement remains the highest priority.

The first public session in this process asked par cipants to express concerns, thoughts and ideas about our schools, and at the same me, imagine the ideal Catholic school system. They listed the ac vi es necessary to accomplish the vision. At the second public session, the par cipants further developed the plan by establishing priori es, objec ves, evidence, and a meline to chart our progress. Many thanks to the people who par cipated for their remarkable insights and contribu ons!

The outcomes of the Teaching and Learning Ini a ve and the RCS System Accredita on process will have significant short‐term and long‐term impact on the overall quality of educa on received at Regis Catholic Schools. Implemen ng the ac ons necessary to reach our goals and outcomes will require addi onal financial commitments. We con nue to make progress and work towards genera ng addi onal revenue to make sure the ac vi es iden fied through the Teaching and Learning Ini a ve can be implemented in the near future.

Please Apply for a Teaching and Learning Commi ee Posi on. Contact Anna Sizer at 715‐830‐2273 ext 6 or [email protected] to receive an applica on or more informa on.

Regis Catholic Schools System Works Toward System Accreditation

As a part of our Teaching and Learning Ini a ve, we are now working on the RCS System Accredita on through the AdvancED organiza on. The accredita on process provides a framework for how we improve all areas of our school system and is a review of the quality of our school system. It is how many students, families, college recruiters, and government groups know with certainty that educa onal ins tu ons and school systems provide a quality educa on.

AdvancED serves the world’s largest educa on community, including more than 27,000 public and private schools and districts across the United States and in 69 countries that educate over 15 million students. As the global leader in advancing educa on excellence through accredita on and school improvement, AdvancED brings together more than 100 years of experience and the exper se of the two largest US based accredita on agencies. AdvancED “will provide an effec ve engine for systema zing and maximizing district improvement efforts. A district’s accredita on recognizes that increasing student achievement involves more than improving instruc on. It is a result of how well all the parts of the educa on system – the district, school, and classroom – work together to meet the needs of students.” www.advanc‐ed.org
