NOTES ON THE USE CF THESE TABLES

The percentages that are used in these tables can be read in two main ways

1) Sometimes the represent the percent of the to.tal group in a particular region of the country who give a certain response.

2) Sometimes they represent the percent of the sub-group in the region for whom the category is appropriate. For example, when the percentages are listed for how respondents handled marital problem, respondents upon whom the percentages are based are thoee who mentioned that they had marital problems. Those who denied such problellll were not considered.

In setting up the percentages for answers to open-ended ques­tions, usually .the person's first response is codedJ in some in­stances more than one response was considered. When this is true, it is noted in the table, and the percentages add up to more than 100%
