LABORATORY FOR TESTING AND IMPLEMENTING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
The nomination becomes
an opportunity
to integrate the defence
of natural resources and
socio-economic
development into a
territory
that unwinds along an
urban river axis, with
planning, design and
management.
LABORATORY FOR TESTING AND IMPLEMENTING SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
The proposed Reserve hopes to be a true
laboratory of sustainability where
the three zones involved
– core, buffer and
transition –
cooperate and interact, each with its
own special characteristics.
Sustainable use of the territory:
the nature fifteen minute walk
from the center of Turin
AN ALLIANCE WITH THE METROPOLITAN AREA
AN ALLIANCE WITH THE AGRICOLTURAL AREA
In the nominated reserve, agriculture is an important activity both in economic terms and in terms of territorial management. Of all production industries, agriculture is the one that has the closest links with the environment and therefore has an enormous influence on biodiversity and the landscape
Sustainable management of the
territory: from a territory used as
quarry to a site of natural value
AN ALLIANCE WITH THE ECONOMICAL SYSTEM
Action Plan :
as an instrument for planning future actions to put into practice in the candidate territory.
Four reference themes:
1. strategic policies for the candidate reserve
2. local projects
3. the governance model proposed for the management of the reserve
4 .the monitoring plan proposed for the mab reserve
ACTION PLAN
The strategic policies referred to make up what
can be described as “the vision” for the
candidate Reserve.
They represent what is expected of the
Reserve’s future and describe a purposely
ambitious picture, in which nature, culture and
fruition of the territory communicate and relation
to one another, often according to a virtuous
approach of mutual exchange.
In some cases they are projects that are
already active in the area, for which the
continuation of the activities is expected, while
in other cases, they are new projects,
conceived with a view to making the objectives
assumed for the candidate Reserve
operational.
1. STRATEGIC POLICIES FOR THE CANDIDATE RESERVE
1. Conservation of nature 2. Strategic design on the territory 3. Activities linked to the Po dei Laghi Masterplan 4. Fruition of the Collina Torinese 5. Communication and territorial marketing project in relation to the principles behind
the Reserve 6. The Rete dei Sentieri 7. Sustainable fruition of the River Po: Po Cycleway and Cavour Canal Cycleway 8. Enhancement of typical products and sustainable agriculture *
*This strategic line, which can be considered relatively “new” in the panorama of actions entered into in the
area, aims to enhance the typical products present on the territory, along with sustainable agriculture, as activities
capable of integrating economic, social and cultural development.

3.THE GOVERNANCE MODEL PROPOSED FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF THE RESERVE
At this time of severe economic crisis, the protected areas are required to elaborate new forms of management, capable of adapting to the lack of funds available and of directing the parks towards new methods of design and planning, focused increasingly on building networks.
The MAB could be an opportunity to try out an innovative management model capable of meeting this new requirements
4. THE MONITORING PLAN PROPOSED FOR THE MAB RESERVE
Starting with the instruments already operating in the territory, the Monitoring Plan aims to focus on the Reserve and on achieving the aims identified, assessing the
individual detailed actions and strategic policies
•First level : achievement of the aims for the Reserve. verify the achievement of the aims established for the Reserve.
•Second level: assessment of the conditions of the components check on the progress of the individual components of the
environment and territory, for many of which indicators have been explained in the file.
•Third level: assessment of the state of progress of strategic and local projects
assess the projects present in the area, in terms of progress and effects.
