The Regional Investment Support for Entrepreneurs (RISE) project is a USAID-funded project implemented by Swisscontact in six ASEAN countries (2018-2021). Currently RISE provides pre- and post-investment business development services (BDS) to growth-oriented companies with high potential for social impact through a technical assistance (TA) facility. RISE partners with investors to find and support eligible companies.

The RISE TA facility is a multi-investor standalone facility that serves as a one-stop shop where businesses can access various forms of support through a pool of vetted consultants. The TA is a discounted repayable grant and TA repayment goes into a revolving fund that can then help other companies. This allows entrepreneurs to access TA when they need it but pay for it as their business grows and/or receives investments.

Activities

Objective Generate impact for the base of the pyramid in the ASEAN region through providing inclusive TA and BDS to enterprises with high potential for positive social, economic, and environmental impact and by mitigating risk for investors focused on social impact.

RISE currently operates in Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, but expects to expand to Laos PDR and Myanmar. RISE’s priority sectors include agriculture, clean energy, digital platforms, health, and water and sanitation.RISE provides pre- and post-investment BDS and TA for social impact entrepreneurs through a pool of vetted consultants. The pre-investment TA is designed to support companies as they work to become investment ready and assist investors in building pipeline. The post-investment TA provides business support to social impact entrepreneurs who receive investment funds. Priority areas of TA include human capital, sales and marketing, financial management, products and services, supply chain management, impact assessment, business strategy, and internal governance, legal, and tax.
