Hello Louisiana Members
Well Wingless Weekend is history and now it’s time for us to focus on the events that are just around the corner. But before we move on, here are some highlights from Wingless: We had good gumbo on Friday night prepared by Brenda Roussel and on Saturday Red Roussel cooked his famous pastalaya. Saturday was filled with fun provided by Chapter M & Chapter D and their games to win door prize tickets. Following, we had even more fun and laughs as the Chapters competed for the Chapter Trophy and bragging rights for next year. By the end of the com-petition 1 point separated 1st & 2nd place with Chapter E the winner and Chapter B a close 2nd. We had to pry the trophy out of last year’s winners’ Chapter M Direc-tor’s hands, Mickey Searels to present to Gary McQueen of Chapter E.
All in all everyone had a good time and I would like to THANK everyone who
helped put on Wingless Weekend. I know if I try and recall everyone by name I
will surely miss someone so I will just say THANKS again for all your help. It
takes a Team like the Louisiana Members to make our functions a success.
Even though Chapter M lost out on the Chapter Cup this Year, they still have some bragging rights. Chapter M is now the District’s CHAPTER OF THE YEAR. Congratu-lations “M” keep up the good work.
Any Chapters planning on competing for Chapter of the Year, now is the time to start gathering all your info and attending conventions and seminars.
The Region Convention is around the corner and the first of the season. It’s time to start planning to attend it in Marshall, TX on March 29-31.
The Region Team has planned numerous fun events plus vendors, seminars so let’s go support them.
We also need some Louisiana members to be there to support Amy & Allen Strain in the Couples Competition for Region Couple. They have worked hard and have represented Louisiana well in all the District Conventions they have attended. We wish them, Good Luck!!!
Next on the list of things to do is the Louisiana District Convention, April 12th, 13th, 14th. The Convention opens at noon on Thursday with indoor and outdoor vendors selling chrome, tires, bikes, trikes, bling, jewelry, pin stripe artist, windshield etcher, led light installers, and weight control specialists, just to mention a few.
THAT’s RIGHT, its Mardi Gras Madness time again in Louisiana. Come join the Louisiana District Team for some fun during the Friday night Mardi Gras Ball and costume contest. We will also judge table deco-rations at the ball. We will have games, new seminars, live music, Bin-go, free ice cream. We will also have a wet t-shirt contest at the opening ceremonies along with the ice cream I mentioned. The light show will follow at dusk. Saturday the fun continues with all day ven-dors, safety seminars, bingo, and game show. Don’t forget to get your tickets for the scooter Rider Ed will be raffling off at the closing cere-monies.
The host hotel, Holiday Inn of Lafayette, has added a few more rooms under the GWRRA Block until March 16th with the special rate of $79.99 a night. Make your reservations now to get the best price.
See you all soon.

Hello Everyone,
From: Rodd Polk, La Dist. Educator”
Hello La Dist. Team..
Man the weather just doesn’t seem to make up its mine! Anyway La has done a great job getting their education programs going for their chapters. There have been great ideas flowing. I would like to thank all the educators for writing great News Articles. We have had some great information. In fact, one I’m going to high light in this month’s News article is from Chapter D. Remember to support your rider education by buying tickets for our Raffle for a motor scooter.
Remember, cars and trucks have had 3 months of not many motorcycles on the road.
Thoughts for safe Riding
TIPS
The question is why should I take a MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) or a GWRRA riding course. Some of us have been riding all of our lives but how many of us have actually had some formal training? Before you answer the question let me give you a few facts that come from The Hurt Report, which is an extensive study taken to determine motorcycle accident cause factors and the identifi-cation of countermeasures;
1. In single vehicles accidents, motorcycle rider errors was present as the accident precipitating factor in about two thirds of the cases, with the typical error being a slide out and fall due to over breaking or running wide on a curve due to excess speed or under-cornering. 2. Roadway defects were the accident cause in 2% of the accidents; animal involvement was 1% of the accidents. 3. Intersections are the most likely place for the motorcycle accident, with the other vehicle violating the motorcycle right of way, and often violating traffic controls. 4. Weather is not a factor in 98% of motorcycle accidents. 5. The motorcycle riders involved in accidents are essentially without training; 92% WERE SELF TAUGHT OR LEARNED FROM FAMI-LY OR FRIENDS! Motorcycle rider training experience reduces accident involvement and is related to reduce injuries in the event of accidents. 6. Lack of attention to the driving task is a common factor for the motorcyclist in an accident. 7. Motorcycle riders in these accidents showed significant collision avoidance problems. Most riders would over brake and skid the rear wheel and under brake the front wheel greatly reducing collision avoidance deceleration. The ability to counter steer and swerve was essentially absent. 8. The typical motorcycle accident allows the motorcyclist just less than 2 seconds to complete all collision avoidance action.
I can’t make anyone take a riding course, just suggest it. The facts are undisputable in this case. When you take formal riding courses you develop good habits that will prove handy in an emergency situation. The website for the state courses is www.lahighwaysafety.org/motorcycle.html , with the next advanced class being in June, and GWRRA offers many riding courses at the conventions. Remember, in the end, you are responsible for your own safety! So be careful and enjoy your ride.

Hello Mudbugs,
The weather is turning beautiful and the Mudbugs are back on the road. We
have had a couple Thursday night rides . The Chapter participated in the 1st
Annual Colors Ride for the Louisiana District to promote Motorcycle Aware-
ness.
The Chapter M participants were Mickey, Mary, Tommy, Tom, Neva, Kevin, Ray,
Stan, Brenda, Robert, Joan, Bj, Jimmy, Willie Courtney, Lynn and Rodd.
We rode to Many, La and across Hwy 6 East to Natchitoches, La for a fuel stop
and to wait for other chapters to join us.
Rodd grouped the bikes by colors. We had a total of 30 bikes in our group.
When the other Chapters joined us we rode to Evangeline Downs Race Track
and Casino in Opelousas, La.
Shortly after arriving at our destination Mike Jastram came in with the South-
ern Chapters. Mike had 73 in several groups making a total of 103 bikes. What
a fantastic showing for the first ever Colors ride.
I can say that seeing so many Goldwings in one parking lot grouped by color
looked like a rainbow being reflected on the ground what an awesome sight!!!!
Mike Jastram, Chapter A Educator and Rodd Polk Louisiana District Educator
did all the planning and all the behind the scenes work and did a great
job...Thank you for doing this.
After a photo session held by several photographers including Roxie and
Brent and one from every Chapter that participated we went inside for a buffet
lunch.. Those of you that know me know I am a sucker for a buffet. This one
was great and it was a Cajun Buffet which was even better.
This is going to be an annual event so I encourage everyone to consider being
there next year.

Murphy’s Laws of Motorcycling
When you dry out after riding through some rain, it will start raining again just
when you begin to feel comfortable.
The chance of rain depends on how accessible your rain gear is.
You only realize the bike’s keys are in your pants pocket after you’ve put on all of
your riding gear.
Your battery will die at the exact same time something else on the bike breaks
and you will think they are related.
A bad day of riding is better than a good day of work.
The more riders around, the more likely you will: 1.Forget the kill switch is in the
off position while trying to start your bike. 2. Ride for miles with the turn sig-
nal on.
If you run out of gas, no matter which way you decide to push, the closest gas
station will always be uphill and in the other direction.
