    PRImARY

  • Dear Parents,

As I write we are less than 48 hours away from the end of yet another action-packed, challenging and ultimately very successful school year at Regents Primary school. We started this school year with just over 500 children in Primary and have grown to four-form entry, from Reception through to Year 6, with approximately 615 students on roll. It has been wonderful to be able to welcome so many new students and families to our school community.

This week we have seen three superb Prize Giving events take place for children in Key Stage 1, Lower and Upper Key Stage 2. Not only was it a joy to witness the pleasure on the faces of the award recipients but also to see how classmates congratulated each other as they made their way to the stage. An exceptionally wide range of achievements have been acknowledged and celebrated this week, highlighting what a wonderful holistic and challenging education is provided for the students at Regents.

It is a well-known fact that a schools greatest resource is its

teaching staff. I would like to take a moment to thank all those teachers who have

taught our Primary children over the course of this year for their dedication, enthusiasm and relentless desire to see the children in their care progress and achieve. Our children are truly fortunate to have had you all in their lives the past three terms. Bon voyage to those members of staff leaving Regents Primary this year, many of whom have been with us for several years and who will be sorely missed. We hope that you all continue to thrive in all

aspects of your lives in your new homes.

Finally, a special thank you to Maxine Watkinson, Deputy Head of Primary for the past 2 years, for her never-ending commitment to making this school the very best it can be; to Paul Crouch for enabling our Primary students to become true Global Citizens; to Mike Walton for being a simply wonderful leader of our school for the past 9 years.

This is an exciting school in which to work and I cant wait to do it all again next year.

    THE YEAR 6 LEAVERS ASSEMbLY

Recollections about friendships, accomplishments, hopes for the future, memories, and Bon Jovis Living on a Prayer; all featured in this years lively Y6 Leavers Assembly. At the conclusion of such a busy year it was certainly entertaining to hear the students in year 6 reflect on their experiences and thoughts on life here at Regents Primary school. It was rewarding to see, and hear, every single student contribute both verbally and musically. We were told about: certain teachers exploding; steam coming out of other teachers ears; how relationships between boys and girls take on a whole new meaning in Y6; how pupils cope with snoring and spiders on trips; and how pupils see their own future. As well as some very boisterous singing there were touching moments too, as some of the pupils read out a

poem about growing up and about feelings of gratitude towards their parents and teachers. Although none of the pupils had big parts to play individually, it was obvious to see the effort they had all put into, not only learning their lines, but delivering them with expression and conviction. Eleven year-old children certainly have their own take on events and experiences in school, and it is revealing to see which of these they see as important and significant. So another year comes to a close. The staff and pupils in year six have ended another chapter in their lives on a high-note, and in producing this assembly have given us all a glimpse into not only their potential, but their hopes and aspirations for the future. Well done to one and all.

YEAR 6 STuDENTS REfLEcTIONS AbOuT TRANSITION DAYS IN SEcONDARY

The secondary school was buzzing on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th June as our Year 6 students took their first big step into Secondary education. Dissecting frogs, metamorphic art, exploring drama to name but a few of the exciting challenges and experiences that were on offer throughout the 2 days. Here are some of the personal accounts from our Yr 6s - Lance, Sophie, Isla and Yu Seung.

All of us were nervous but excited; many of us couldnt wait to find out what classes we were going to be put in. During the 2 days we attended many different classes such as: Science, History, Math, PSHE and much more! We even got to spend lunch and break in the secondary school! At the end of transition, the head boy and girl talked to us about what it is like to be in their position and how we can participate in leadership roles next year. Now most of us are looking forward to becoming secondary students, well I know I am!

I think the most enjoyable part of the first day of Year 6 transition, as most can agree, was the sense of freedom. Everything was so new but after a few minutes it seemed like Id never been anywhere else. Overall an amazing experience, so far, that makes me more than excited to go to the Secondary school and maybe next year help this

years Year 5 through an easy transition when they come around.

Everybody was nervous and felt excited at the start. Butterflies were in our stomachs flying around crazily. We were eager to know who our form tutor is, eager to know what we are going to do and most of all.we were eager to enjoy the new experiences. I was happy to experience what it was like to be a secondary student and oh, the teachers werent as mean as we thought!

Fantastic to hear such positive responses from our Year 6 students and we look forward to welcoming them all officially to the secondary school on Monday 25th August as Year 7 students.

    PRIZE GIVING

It has been a lovely final week for our children here in Primary and our Prize Giving Ceremonies have been a cause for much celebration.

Both the Lower and Upper Key Stage 2 ceremonies were opened with reminders of our Primary School mantra: Positivity, Perseverance and Participation and showcased examples of each of these in action, from each Key Stage, over the course of the year. It was wonderful that so many of our award winners parents were able to attend the ceremonies and share in the surprise and joy as their children received their certificates.

Student leadership was evident in all Key Stages: our Student Guild members received recognition for their years service; Jodie and Michael delivered an excellent End of Year Address speaking with confidence and

articulating their messages with clarity; finally our Key Stage 1 Prize Giving was hosted by the House Captains in an incredibly professional manner.

Our Key Stage 1 Prize Giving exemplified our schools holistic approach through performances that demonstrated our childrens growing maturity and ability to sing, dance and organise themselves independently; furthermore, the certificates awarded recognised the varied individual qualities of our children and showed just how well staff have nurtured them.

So as another year draws to a close, a heartfelt thank you and well done to all our staff, parents and most importantly, to our children who make a teachers job the best job in the world!

    SPORTS DINNER 2014

On Friday 13th June 2014 the PE department hosted our annual Sports Dinner Celebration at the Amari Hotel in the Aranda Ballroom.

The evening was spent celebrating our sporting success, and more importantly, recognising the efforts of our wonderful students who have committed so much time and effort to school sport this year.

Record numbers attended the evening, with a full house of 350 people! The evening started with primary wards, commenced with an International buffet dinner, before continuing with student speeches about their sporting season, and the presentation of awards in various categories through the schools age groups. Again, we finished the event with a disco.
