Originally aiming to raise £5000.00 Rebecca has smashed through the £10,000 barrier and to date has raised almost £13,000.00 for the char- ity with over 400 individual donations. Hosted by Tayside Aviation the visit to Dundee Airport included a tour of the facilities and a four aircraft fly-past by the Tayside Aviation Grob For- mation Team. Rebecca also had the opportunity to fly in a Tayside Aviation Aircraft and Grp Captain Vordermanaircraft. In addition to presenting a Commandant Air Cadets Special Commenda- tion and the Andy Swierczek Award Group Captain Vorder- man presented Rebecca with a limited edition print signed and sent by the RAF Aerobatic Team the Red Arrows. Air Cadets across the UK will be involved in Commonwealth Fly a Flag day on 9 March 15

Seventeen year old Air Cadet Corporal Rebecca Dalgleish, from North

Berwick, has received two top awards during a visit to Tayside Aviation in

Dundee. Paying a flying visit to meet Rebecca Honorary Group Captain

Carol Vorderman made a special trip, piloting her own aircraft into Dundee

Airport, to present Rebecca with the awards.

Recently diagnosed with terminal cancer brave Rebecca has set about

raising funds for her chosen charity, Children’s Hospice Association Scot-

land. Originally aiming to raise £5000.00 Rebecca has smashed through

the £10,000 barrier and to date has raised almost £13,000.00 for the char-

1089 (7th Glasgow) Sqn recently hosted a visit from a senior Ministry of

Defence Officer when Commodore JMS Fry RN, Head Capability and Ca-

dets at the Ministry of Defence HQ in London took time out from a busy

schedule to make his first visit to an Air Cadet Squadron in Scotland.

As Head Capability and Ca-

dets Commodore Fry is re-

sponsible for the Capability

and Cadets sections within

the Reserve Forces and Ca-

dets Directorate at MoD

HQ. He is responsible for

ensuring the optimal use of

Reservists on operations

through efficient and effec-

tive mobilisation and call out

orders. In addition he is joint-

ly responsible, for delivery of

the Cadet Expansion Pro-

gramme and provides over-

sight of the implementation

of the Defence Youth En-

gagement Review. .

Speaking to cadets from

1089 and 62 (2nd Glasgow) Squadrons Cdre Fry explained his role in the

MOD and talked about his regular meeting with Commandant Air Cadets.

Cdre Fry took the opportunity to observe Cadet training during his visit

including Flight Sim, Leadership Training and Heartstart discussing the

subjects with cadets in each class. He discussed, with the NCOs, the

different styles of leadership using examples of his own experienc-

es. Cdre Fry also took the opportunity to try out his CPR skills, a task he

hasn't done in 30 years.

Addressing cadets on final parade he explained the current position with

the glider fleet and developments in the Cadet Training Syllabus. A num-

ber of cadets were presented with Cadet Proficiency certificates and by

the Commodore.

dit by the Regional HSE Advisor.

TOP STUDENT

Adult Sgt Thomas Podger has been awarded top student at

the recent ATC Senior NCO Staff Initial Course held at RAF

College Cranwell.

Commenting on

his course Sgt

Podger said:-

“I thoroughly en-

joyed my time as

a cadet and I am

very grateful for

the opportunities

and skills the or-

ganization has

provided me;

both within the cadets and in my civilian career.

I now look forward to the giving back to the ATC through my

role as an Adult Sgt where I will work with the cadets to de-

velop their skills which will help them in their futures.”

2449 (Carnoustie) Squadron will be celebrating its 50th anni-

versary in 2016, when at the same time the ATC will be cele-

brating its 75th anniversary. This milestone twill be celebrat-

ed with a large range of cadet activities and formal events.

Nijmegen 2015 – Teams of Air Cadets and staff from Scotland & Northern Ireland Re-

gion have been selected to participate in The Four Days Marches event in the Nether-

lands attract around 42,000 walkers each year and the 99th International Four Days

Marches will take place from 21 July to 24 July 2015.

Out of 38 teams nominated by the Regional Headquarters, 24 have been selected.

Teams from North East Scotland, Northern Ireland and West Scotland Wings have

been selected and will participate in the 2015 Marches

2489 (Bridge of Don) Squadron Air

Training Corps

Cadets Adam Lawrence and Harris Ram-

say travelled to Bavaria on Exercise Al-

pine Adventure 2015. Both improved their

alpine skiing skills joining other cadets

from North East Scotland Wing and South

West Region. Flt Lt Simon Smith had or-

ganised the Wing's group and had more

than positive feedback from all the cadets who

attended.

Inspection for 875 (Westhill) Squadron

The Squadron had the honour of hosting Regional Commandant Group Captain Leg-

gat for the Regional Lees inspection.

The Squadron was repre-

senting North East Scotland

Wing ATC as the winners of

the Macrobert trophy, the

award given to the most effi-

cient Squadron of the year. It

is the first time ever in the

Squadron's history to win this

title. The Regional Comman-

dant was given a guided tour

of the Squadron and shown

examples of the training and

activities that cadets take

part in. Cadets held presen-

tations on events such as

fundraising, aero modelling,

archery and even a first aid

demonstration. The Commandant also got to see the Squadrons most recent pur-

chase of clay pigeon traps and shotguns as 875 (Westhill) take the lead in the Wing

for Clay Target Shooting.

1297 Stonehaven squadron Air Cadets recently took part in the Cadet Inter Service Skill at

Arms Meeting (CISSAM). The shooting competition is held at the Army Training Regiment

Ranges Pirbright Sur-

rey. Cadets use their

equivalent of the British

Army SA80 Rifle to

shoot at targets ranging

from 100 to 300 Yards

using iron sights. There

were fifty two teams in

total whom had quali-

fied for the final of the

national competition.

Teams were made up

from all three cadet ser-

vices Sea, Army & Air a

total of 260 cadets.

Whilst attending the

meeting the cadets

competed in four separate competitions Rifle Pairs, Earl Roberts AMS, Montgomery of Alamein

and the Marling. In the team competitions the squadron won the Marling Competition, Top

Team Overall and Top Air Cadet Team. The Stonehaven Squadron were runners up in the

107 Aberdeen Squadron Cadets and other mem-

bers of the public joined the Ranger Service coppic-

ing hazel trees at Den of Maidencraig nature re-

serve. This process of cutting the trees and shoots

back as close as possible to the ground every 7 - 10

years promotes healthy tree growth and an improved

wildlife habitat.

The 2015 Scotland & Northern Ireland Public Rela-

tions and Photographic Competition will take place

at MoD Caledonia at the Regional Field Day In Sep-
