Judge to plaintiff and interpreter:You speak Chechnian with one another? Can you communicate well?

I will first make a brief report. You were in Poland, your application for asylum

was rejected there. In 2010 you applied for

asylum in Germany together with your wife. She withdrew her application for asylum and

left the country voluntarily.

Judge:How did you come to Germany? Please describe the exact route.

Plaintiff:I took a train to Moscow, from there I continued through Belarus. From Poland with a taxi to Belgium.From Brussels with a taxi to Berlin.

Please describe to me why you came to

Germany.

Plaintiff:In order to save my life.

Judge:From what?

Plaintiff:I was being persecuted.

Richter:Can you say more about this?

Plaintiff:But I have already said everything, you know the story.

Judge:You told your story to the Federal Office. I want to hear the story again. That is why are we here.

Judge (dictates):I was escaping

from persecutors. They would not leave me alone.

Judge:You know, that is not enough for me. You must describe in detail what happened. If anything happened…

Plaintiff:I was arrested three times.

Judge:How exactly did that happen?

I do not know whether you can understand me, or if you can imagine something like this.

I was arrested, then they released me again. Once I had

to pay over 5000 $ so that they would release me. Then they

arrested me again and imprisoned me for 8 days.

Judge:Describe to me what happened to you during those 8 days.

Plaintiff:May I refrain from doing so?

Judge:You may, but you must understand that the success of your application depends on what you describe here.

Judge (dictates):When they came, I was with my family in my apartment. With my parents and siblings.

They arrested me. They threatened and insulted me. They asked whether I supplied weapons to the men. During the third arrest, they beat me. A plastic bag was pulled over my head. I cannot say more in the

presence of the female translator, it concerns

private parts.

Judge:At the Federal Office you only reported an arrest.

Plaintiff:It is possible that I only talked about the third arrest. I am not sure.

Judge:Let‘s continue with another topic. How are you doing here?

Plaintiff:What do you mean? My health? Not good. I am very nervous.

Judge:Are you getting treatment?

Plaintiff:I was able to get appointments now.

Judge:Were you at the hospital?

Plaintiff:Yes, but they would not admit me. Welfare would not cover the cost.

I will review your file. As I have mentioned, there are

several contradictions. I will also hear your wife,

who is also in Germany now and is seeking asylum. Based on this I will give my verdict.

The verdict will be sent to you.

Plaintiff:My wife will only speak ill of me. She will also say that I am a Wahhabi, a militant.

I would like to be able to do something here. But I cannot begin anything, because I only live in a state of uncertainty, in fear of being deported any day.
