Final Idea

We had two initial ideas, but we used some ideas of both and made a new final idea. This consists of having two couples that are completely opposite to each other. One is affectionate and one is passionate but aggressive to each other. They sit in the restaurant and mirror each others actions but the shots that we use represent the different personalities of each couples. Then one of the male characters will propose to his girlfriend. This scene will be shown at the end but everything in the story itself will build up to it. Surprising the audience and uncovering the moral of the story which is – Don’t judge a book by its cover.

Camera

We can use camera shots to familiarize the audience with the setting and characters. This is not definite but our initial idea on the use of camera techniques we will be using are variety of different shots and angles. This will consist of establishing shots to set the setting and make the location clear, close up shots to show emotion and key props and characters that play a huge role within our short film. Also we will be using many shot-reverse-shots to emphasize the communication between the characters (Jamal and Sophie, Joao and Marnie).

Sound

Dialogue is used to convey what is occurring in the scenes. The diegetic sound is the natural sounds that are picked up by the camera. The dialogue used by the characters will emphasize their relationships and personalities. This creates the atmosphere of the scene because you start to see the characters act differently and it sets the mood.

Mise-en-scene

The Mise-en-scene is yet to be fully confirmed. We have recently called two restaurants ‘Café Med’ and ‘Giraffe’ both fit our requirements perfectly and we are waiting upon their confirmation. The costumes do not have to be very specific we just need them to be smart casual as it allows the audience to know they are going on a romantic date.

Our key props will add meaning to the story by becoming the center of attention. For example: the first scene will be a close up shot of the engagement ring which is crucial to the short film. The mobile phones are also very important as it signifies the infidelity between the couple. And reinforces the moral.
