Permanent mooring anchors have been placed in the other marinas as requested by the Sailing Committee, which includes 14 moorings in the marina at Club Beach. All marinas have been re-pitched and topped with “foot friendly” gravel. The Sweet Briar Access dock was improved. The Canoe Brook Access Jetty was expanded for additional boat racks. All marinas were pulled back and re-sanded. All beach swim areas were cleaned out, reshaped and resanded. The channel in and out of North Beach was permanently marked for boaters to get in and out without hitting rocks. The outermost obstructions around Snake Island are being marked with oversized anchoring to prevent buoy movement. The jettys at Club Beach have been lengthened to provide a larger boat rental marina and to have potential use of the flag pole jetty. In addition to the many Club wide improvements listed, the draw down also afforded several lake front Members the ability to complete their own shoreline improvements. Gateway Property Update The Club has been working diligently since the fall acquisition of the Gateway Property, formally known as the Ice House restaurant. The Task Force, created by the Board of Trustees and Board of Governors, has been meeting throughout the winter with the hope of optimizing utilization of the gateway property in partnership with the Horizon Plan as a means of enhancing Member satisfaction. There has been some work done on the property. The grounds were cleaned up to make the corner more appealing. The Club’s Maintenance Department also did some work to help secure the build- ing and parking lot and prevent any further damage due to the building being vacant. The Task Force has commissioned an engineering study of the building and an environmental study of the property to assess if it is feasible to renovate or if dismantling the building is the best course of action. The results are still pending. In the meantime the Task Force continues to evaluate all the suggestions submitted by Members. The Task Force’s goal is to have a solid plan in place to present at the Mem- bership Annual Meeting on August 9 th . Lake Naomi Drawdown AccomplishmentsAs the drawdown project nears its end we’d like to update the Membership on the project. A

major accomplishment for the lake during the drawdown was constructing a stone veneer concrete knee wall to address leaking of the north abutment. Beyond typical maintenance scheduled during each drawdown like servicing, dredging and repairing dry hydrants as needed; the Club has also accomplished the following:

• The Park’s water edge has been completely changed to remove the enormous boulders providing four feet of unobstructed water access to the approach areas.

• The Park’s shoreline has been properly pitched and prepared for the Sailing Program boat racks.• Rocks just off Comfort Island that were dangerous obstructions have been addressed to be

permanently marked (with the help of Member John Whipple.)• All beaches now have buried concrete footings with fl uorescent orange connectors for beach

swim area line anchoring. This will provide consistent line markers at four feet of water and no daily fi xing by staff.

• Two deep water swim buoy anchor footings have also been placed outside the swim area at Pebble Beach similar to the deep water swim buoys at Club Beach.

• Permanent mooring anchors have been placed in the other marinas as requested by the Sailing Committee, which includes 14 moorings in the marina at Club Beach.

• All marinas have been re-pitched and topped with “foot friendly” gravel.• The Sweet Briar Access dock was improved. • The Canoe Brook Access Jetty was expanded for additional boat racks. • All marinas were pulled back and re-sanded. • All beach swim areas were cleaned out, reshaped and resanded. • The channel in and out of North Beach was permanently marked for boaters to get in and out

without hitting rocks. • The outermost obstructions around Snake Island are being marked with oversized anchoring

to prevent buoy movement. • The jettys at Club Beach have been lengthened to provide a larger boat rental marina and to

have potential use of the fl ag pole jetty. In addition to the many Club wide improvements listed, the draw down also afforded several lake

front Members the ability to complete their own shoreline improvements.

Gateway Property UpdateThe Club has been working diligently since the fall acquisition of the Gateway Property, formally

known as the Ice House restaurant.

The Club’s Maintenance Department also did some work to help secure the build-ing and parking lot and prevent any further damage due to the building being vacant. The Task Force has commissioned an engineering study of the building and an environmental study of the property to assess if it is feasible to renovate or if dismantling the building is the best course of action. The results are still pending. In the meantime the Task Force continues to evaluate all the suggestions submitted by Members. The Task Force’s goal is to have a solid plan in place to present at the Mem-bership Annual Meeting on August 9th. Progress on Phase One of the Horizon Plan

The Club is moving forward with the estimated cost and new additional designs of the Golf Center, Timber Trails Clubhouse and Timber Trails Pool as listed in the Hori-zon Plan and discussed at the August Membership Annual Meeting. As reported in the End-of-Fall Refl ections, the Long Range Planning Committee met on December 28th where they discussed and fi nalized many of the details. The operational layout of both facilities has been completed and Management is working with the builders to assure the Club is receiving the best cost possible. Management continues to work with the local authorities with permitting and construction site work approval. Once all the permits are obtained and the fi nancial plan has been approved by all the appropriate committees and boards, a detailed mailing will be sent to Members that will include renderings, fl oor plans, operational plans and the fi nancial plan.

The fi rst two Informational Coffees have been set for Wednesday, April 16th at 7:00 PM and Saturday, April 19th at 10:30 AM at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse. The Member-ship will be given additional information on the projects, a complete cost and fi nancial plan, a projected timeline and plenty of time for Questions and Answers. So mark your calendars to attend one of these important meetings. If you are unable to attend, addi-tional coffees will be scheduled prior to the voting deadline.

Under the Club’s Bylaws the ultimate decision on Phase One of the Horizon Plan will be made by all of the Club Members exercising their right to vote. A mailed ballot will be sent to Club Members shortly after Memorial Day.

The Horizon Plan is a very important element of the long term success of the Club and Community. All phases of the Horizon Plan have important services that will provide enhancements to our Members’ families for the next 50 years. The Club’s goal is to make sure all Members are correctly informed about all aspects of the Horizon Plan Proposal and to ask questions about any aspects you do not understand so that you can cast an informed vote on each phase as they are presented to the Membership.

Membership Dues & Association Fees The Accounting Department needs your help! Many Members are not aware that the

Lake Naomi Club, The Pocono Pines Community Association and the Timber Trails Community Association are three separate and very different organizations, each gov-erned by different state and federal laws. Each of these organizations has its own bank accounts, its own general ledger and its own audit. The Lake Naomi Club and the two home owner associations work together whenever possible to make things easier for all of their Members as we all coexist as one large happy group. However, please remember that when paying your Lake Naomi Membership dues and when paying your PPCA or TTCA association fees, the two should not be combined on one check. A separate check to each entity is required to satisfy GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures) set forth by the Club’s and Association’s auditors. The Club and the Associations appre-ciate your timely payments and your assistance with keeping the books in good order.

Discounts to End March 15th The discount period for the payment of 2014 Club dues ends on Saturday, March 15,

2014. Payments must be received or postmarked by this date in order for the Club Member to take advantage of the discount.

If you have not received your Annual Club Billing and related information, be sure to contact the Administrative Offi ce immediately. The only exception to the March 15th expi-ration of the “discount period” is for Members who are joining for the fi rst time. In fairness to all Members, there will be no other exceptions. Remember you can pay your Member-ship with a credit card online at www.LakeNaomiClub.com. Click on Members in the up-per right corner. The membership payment form can be found in the Online Sign-Up menu.Boat and Canoe/Kayak Rack Assignments

Continuing with the rack assignment procedure adopted in 2013, the 2014 dues invoices were mailed out around December 15, 2013. The Club received over 400 “early” payments between December 15th and January 2nd which were entered into a lottery and chosen at ran-dom for assignment of boat and canoe/kayak racks. Once a member’s payment was chosen for assignment, either of two things happened: If they were requesting a rack in their desig-nated assignment area, they were assigned to a rack at that time; if they were requesting a rack outside of their designated area, their payment was set aside to be assigned after January 31st, but was assigned based on their number drawn in the lottery. Payments received after January 2nd were considered after all of these “early” payments. Notifi cation of your assignment will be included in your 2014 membership packet which you may pick up beginning April 4th.

New Year’s Eve CelebrationNew Year’s Eve was once again a great success at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse! Pe-

ter and his team transformed the Lake Naomi Clubhouse and took Members through an expedition to the amazing land of wonder and adventure of Africa. Members were able to experience the diversity and beauty of the African culture through dance, music and cuisine. Members enjoyed an African cocktail while eating their way through the four corners of the continent. Special thanks go out to Tony Zanin and the House Committee Members for all of their hard work in planning and decorating for this special event. The Committee has already started preparations for this year’s event, so start making your plans to celebrate New Year’s Eve 2014 with your friends at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse. All New Year’s Event pictures can be viewed at www.facebook.com/lakenaomiclub.

LNCH Closes for Spring CleaningEach year the Clubhouse closes for a week to

spruce everything up for the Spring and Summer. This year the Clubhouse will be completely closed from Sunday, March 2nd through Thurs-day, March 13th, reopening on Friday, March 14th. Come celebrate on Saturday, March 15th at the traditional St. Patrick’s Day Member Event. Please sign up for this annual event online or at the Community Center 570-646-8585.

The Dress Code at the Lake Naomi ClubhouseIn order to maintain the quality experience that the Members expect at the Lake Nao-

mi Clubhouse, Club Members and Guests must wear Dressy Casual appropriate attire when dining at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse. While jackets are not required, they are welcomed at all times.

In the Main Dining Room and the Tall Timbers Room gentlemen and young men 16 and older must wear a collared shirt or a comparable dress shirt at all times. Beach attire, tee-shirts, cut-offs, tank tops and hats are not permitted at any time. Except for special functions where they are appropriate (for example, member events), blue denim jeans are discouraged (however not prohibited) on Saturday nights.

For Sunday Breakfast Buffets dressy casual is recommended. Gentlemen and young men 16 and older must wear a collared shirt or a comparable dress shirt at all times. Beach attire, tee-shirts, cut-offs, tank tops and hats are not permitted at any time.

The Clubhouse Committee acknowledges that some Members strongly prefer a more casual dress code. However, we still encourage dress that would be considered business, dressy casual or resort casual, and believe diners will be most comfortable following those guidelines.

The Club is entrusting our Members to use good judgment concerning what is appro-priate attire when coming to the Club to dine. Under-shirts, sleeveless tee-shirts, printed tee-shirts, short shorts and bare midriff tops are unacceptable.

Please inform your guests of this policy before they arrive at the Clubhouse. In the event of questionable attire, the decision of the Clubhouse Management will be fi nal.

Labor Day (last day for LNC’s Summer 2014 schedule)

George Bernardin and Kathy Hyatt Elected Trustees

George Bernardin of Pocono Pines, Pennsylvania and Kathy Hyatt of Wayne, Pennsyl-vania were elected to a three year term on the Board of Trustees effective January 1, 2014.

In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees, George is the President of the Timber Trails Community Association for a third year. He has been on the TTCA Board since 2006 and served as the Treasurer from 2006-2011. He also served on the BOG from 1998-2004 and the Finance Committee from 1998-2008.

George and his late wife Linda joined the Club in 1977 and were Temporary Members from 1972 to 1976. He is a retired Services General Manager from Lucent Technologies in New York. In response to the question – What is your primary reason for desiring to serve as a Board of Trustee Member? George responded, “To offer my services to the LNC in sharing my growth and experience on the Board of Governors, LNC Finance Committee and Timber Trails Board. My life is committed to the success of the Lake Naomi Club. My children grew up here and one of my daughters bought a vacation home in Lake Naomi eight years ago. I “hang” with my family and many of their friends and get fi rst hand constructive feedback from their age group. I live here full time and have an intimate knowledge of the programs that are offered for members from 2 to 100. Sit-ting in on Trustee meetings as the Timber Trails President for the last two years have been very informative. I participate in golf, tennis, boating, sailing, fi shing, pool, community center activities and dine frequently at the Clubhouse. I believe this gives me a good overall perspective of the vision of “Life at Lake Naomi”.

Kathy Hyatt has served on the Sailing Committee since 2002 and was the Commodore from 2004 to 2006. As the Commodore she served on the Board of Governors and in 2005 also served as the BOG Vice Chair. She also served as the Laser Fleet Captain since 2008 and was a member of the Finance Committee from 2000-2002. Kathy and her husband Jim have a home in Lake Naomi and have held Club Membership since 1991. Kathy and Jim have two adult sons, Robert and Michael. Kathy works for the Vanguard Group, where she is a Principal and Treasurer of the Vanguard Funds. In response to the question – What is your primary reason for desiring to serve as a Board of Trustee Member? Kathy responded, “My family and I have a longstanding commitment to the Club, which we expect to continue for many years. We have many friends here, and want to continue to help make the Club successful in meeting the needs of the LN-TT Com-munity. I would like to help the Club address capacity concerns and make the best use of existing facilities, and balance the needs of a diverse membership including full time/va-cation users and older members/young families. I also think it is important to encourage newer and younger Club members to be active participants in Committees and the BOG.”

By the end of the holiday season, this enormous tree was completely fi lled with hats, scarves and mittens which were donated to the foster children of Monroe County. A big thank you to Caroline Graham who made sure that the donations reached their proper destination again this year. We would also like to recog-nize your generous donations to the Toys for Tots pro-gram. Many local children had a very blessed holiday.

Easter Egg HuntLake Naomi Club’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt

will occur on Saturday, April 19th. Members ages 2 through 8 and their parents are asked to hippity-hop over to the Community Center to participate in the festivities. Don't miss visiting with the Easter Bunny, searching for lots of special eggs and winning some neat prizes. Please call the Community Center at (570) 646-8585 by Monday, April 14th with the names and ages of the children planning to attend. It is important that everyone who wants to participate in this event registers in advance, as this event fi lls up every year.

Book ClubThe LNC Book Club meets regu-

larly on the second Monday of each month at the Community Center. The group is organized by volunteer Vilma Zabaleta.

These are the books that have been selected for the upcoming months:

Mar. 10 - "Tell the Wolves I'm Home" by Carol Rifka Brunt

April 14 - "The Round House" by Louise Erdrich

May 12 - "The Aviators Wife" by Melanie Benjamin plus "Gift from the Sea" by Anne Morrow Lindberg

June 9 - "The Lady in Gold" by Anne Marie O'Connor

Community Center GuestsWhile the Club is always happy to entertain guests at Lake Naomi - Timber Trails,

please be mindful of the Community Center guidelines throughout the balance of this winter season, especially President’s Weekend. There is a limit of six guests per day per Family Membership on weekdays and four guests per day per Family Membership on weekends and holidays. Also please remember that in order for a guest to use the facility, the Member must be present with them. In fairness to our Members, we will not be making any exceptions to these policies during winter holiday periods.Local Food Bank Donations to Continue

The local food bank is always in need of replenishing. You can help by donating the following non-perishable items: canned fruits and vegeta-bles, rice, pasta, spaghetti sauce, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, cake mix, juice, coffee, tea, soap, detergent and paper products. All items are now being collected at the Community Center. This collection will be ongoing through the winter months and

into the spring in the hopes that we can stock the food bank full of the items needed for our local community. Drop your donations in the bin located in the lobby.

Bulletin BoardsDon't forget to check the year-round

bulletin boards at the Administrative Offi ce, the Community Center (lo-cated inside), the entrance to Timber Trails and at Millers Drive (across from the Clubhouse) for up-to-date information whenever you arrive in the Poconos. Also, please be courte-ous and safe and pull completely off roadways and out of the line of traffi c while reading posted information at the outdoor bulletin boards.

Lifeguard positions for 2014As the Club continues to look for

the best lifeguards we are now ac-cepting applications for the upcom-ing summer. Guards reapplying for returning positions must do so by February 28th to insure their posi-tions are held. Beginning March 1st

any remaining openings will begin being fi lled. The Club is hoping for another season of great response so these positions may fi ll quickly. Please don’t wait to apply if you are interested. Applications are avail-able online at www.LakeNaomi-Club.com under Contact Us. Hard copies are also available at both the Administrative Offi ce and Commu-nity Center.

Winter Swim LessonsDid you know the Lake Naomi

Club has Lifeguards trained to pro-vide Swim Lessons and our Sum-mer Swim Lesson Head Instructor/Coordinator is on staff year round? Their services are available for pri-vate lessons at almost any time you are here. We suggest you schedule your lessons early to prepare your children for the upcoming summer. Please contact Meredith Sensenig at 570-646-8585 or by e-mail at [email protected] to discuss your lesson options.

Community Center Multipurpose Room EtiquetteWhile members are utilizing the Community Center’s Multipurpose Room for indoor

tennis play, they sometimes fi nd it challenging to share the space with the recreation participants on the other side of the curtain. Because the LSCC is a multiuse facility, all Members are asked to be familiar with and practice the Multipurpose Room guidelines which follow and are outlined in the Leisure Service Guide. It is suggested that members call ahead when planning on using the MPR as programming may be scheduled which could limit access for general use.

Multipurpose Room Guidelines:Please only wear shoes with non-marking soles.Athletic shirts and shorts are required, cut-offs are not permitted.Roughhousing and horseplay is considered unsafe and not permitted at any time. Please do not hang on the basketball rims or lean on the tennis nets.Food and eating are not permitted in the multi-purpose room. Drinks are only permitted in reusable plastic containers with lids (i.e. sports bottles.)Multipurpose Room while set for Indoor Tennis- Additional Guidelines:Athletic attire and shoes are required to play indoor tennis.Only persons engaged in play may be on the court. Each court may have a maximum of four players and three regulation size tennis balls

unless otherwise approved by Management. Please keep the courts free of litter, especially empty ball cans and ball can metal caps

which can damage the fl oor.Players are expected to practice court etiquette as they participate at all Lake Naomi

Club Tennis facilities:Be respectful to the adjacent court at all times, especially when walking in and out and when

retrieving balls. Should the need to interrupt arise, please wait until after the point in play.Limit disruptive conversation and behavior. Profane language is never acceptable.

Throwing racquets will not be tolerated and unnecessary screaming is discouraged.Courteous and sportsmanlike conduct is always expected. Although cell phones are permitted in the Community Center, lowering ringer volume

and taking calls to another area are courteous practices always appreciated by others. We hope these basic reminders will help all Members fi nd their time at the Community Cen-

ter more enjoyable as many users share common space. We thank you for your cooperation.

Important Indoor Pool Etiquette

For the comfort of all Members us-ing the indoor aquatic facilities, we encourage you to rinse off before en-tering the indoor pool, steam room or sauna. This is especially important if you have just worked up a sweat in the fi tness center or multi-purpose room. Showerheads for this purpose are located in the Men’s and Ladies’ locker rooms right before you enter the indoor pool area. Your fellow Members thank you!

RC Laser Winter Open RegattaThe Radio Controlled Laser Fleet will be hosting

an Open Regatta on Sunday, March 9th from 7:00-11:00 AM in the indoor pool at the LSCC. Sailors should expect up to 20 races during the 4 hours allotted assuming similar participation to previous years. Specifi cally, starts are normally limited to six or seven boats per start in order to maximize the space in the pool. The Member Fleet will work to accommodate visiting guests and all qualifi ed rac-ers, and hope not to have to limit participation but may do so if registrations drastically increase. Some world class visiting racers will be attending making the competition more interesting than a regular biweekly race day.

Please express your interest in participating as soon as possible by emailing Meredith Sensenig at [email protected] so we can plan accordingly… the indoor pool size limits the number of boats we can accommodate.

Cost for event is $20 per skipper. Trophies will be awarded at the end of the sailing event. Space will be provided the evening before for anyone who would like to set up their boat Saturday night rather than pre 7 AM on Sunday.

Spectators are encouraged to watch from the spectator deck or the pool area, HOW-EVER no pool use or spa use will be permitted until the event is over and the entire area opens at 11:00 AM. Reminder, the pool area is over 80 degrees, please dress accordingly.

Winter is Platform Tennis SeasonPlatform Tennis is considered a winter sport as it

was invented to accommodate tennis players not able to get on the courts once colder weather hits. Leagues, tournaments and special events quickly followed, turning Plat-form Tennis into one of the best winter outdoor recreational sports. This fast moving game is a great way to warm up outdoors while enjoying the fresh air often missed in winter.

The Platform Tennis court deck has a heating feature to melt away ice PRIOR to your play. PLEASE call the Community Center in advance so we can make sure the deck is clear of snow and ice for you. Courts are available seven days a week anytime the Community Center is open but to reiterate, additional snow and ice removal time may be needed after inclement weather.

Racquets and balls are available for check out at the reception desk. Eye protection is highly recommended and athletic shoes are required.

All Members are permitted to play with no court fees. Reservations are not neces-sary as the courts are fi rst come, fi rst to play, but if you have a group wishing to play at a particular time, please call the Community Center to reserve the courts with the receptionist.

The reception desk also keeps an informative highlight sheet on platform tennis as well as the offi cial rules for the Members who wish to use them. Additional information can be also be found on the APTA website at www.platformtennis.org.

Many Members are now organizing regular games. Please contact Meredith Sensenig at (570) 646-8585 or [email protected] if you are interested in getting involved.

Top 10 Reasons To Play TennisTennis is a great sport with so many positive reasons to play. My Top 10 reasons are:10 - Tennis Makes For A Happier Life Tennis engages your mind and body at the same

time. Because tennis players are more confi dent, healthier, less stressed and more socially interactive, they’re just plain happier.

9 - Tennis Can Be Anything You Want It To Be Looking for competition, social play, team camaraderie, a good workout, time with family or friends, and tournaments? Tennis has all that and more! The sport can be anything you want or need it to be.

8 - Tennis Teaches Life Lessons Players, especially younger players, develop a work ethic, learn sportsmanship, manage mistakes, cope with pressure and adversity, and much more.

7 - Tennis Is Social On court and off, you are guaranteed to make friends through tennis. The sport encourages communication, interaction, and lots of fun.

6 - Tennis Is Fun At every level, fun is one of the main reasons to play tennis.5 - Tennis Develops Your Body The constant movement and action in tennis will burn

calories, build muscle, increase bone strength, improve fl exibility and enhance overall health and fi tness.

4 - Tennis Helps You Live Longer Scientists and doctors around the world point to tennis as one of the most healthful activities in which you can participate. It will add years to your life, and life to your years.

3 - Tennis Develops Your Mind Tennis requires alertness, tactical thinking and problem solving, and evidence suggests it may generate new connections between nerves, promoting a lifetime of continued development of the brain.

2 - Tennis Is A Family Sport No matter the age, gender, ability level or fi tness level, tennis is a perfect fi t for families to play together. Few sports can offer the opportunities for families that tennis can.

1 - Lake Naomi!!! There is no better place to take advantage of the benefi ts of tennis than at the Lake Naomi Club! With the great collection of Members; the staff; the programs; and the pristine facilities, tennis at Lake Naomi will serve you well!

Fall Doubles Tennis Tournament

In October and November year round competitive tennis players par-ticipated in a Round Robin Tourna-ment where each team was formed via blind draw with one A and one B play-er. Teams then played all other teams two sets with a 12 point tie break if needed. The most matches won wins the Tourney seemed like a simple ap-proach until two teams tied for best score! Teams Rick Bodenschatz/Lew Rarig and Roger Rosen/Peter Veritas played an additional match to break the tie resulting in a Tournament win for Bodenschatz/Rarig.

The next Doubles Tournament will be in early Spring. Anyone interested in playing should email their intent to [email protected].

Special Artwork displayed at the LSCC

The Lake Naomi Club is pleased to announce that the Club has again teamed up with the Pocono Mountain Arts Council to provide space for lo-cal artists and members of the coun-cil to display their work. Since the Spring of 2008, Members have been able to view the PMAC’s Rotating Gallery right here in the Communi-ty Center. The display will consist of eight to ten pieces of artwork from two artists each month and is locat-ed in the mezzanine and the stairwell loft area of the Community Center.

It is also no secret that we have many talented artists among the LNC Members. Artists from LN-TT are welcome to display their work as well in the Adult Activity Room of the Community Center if they are members of the PMAC. If you are interested in becoming part of this rotating gallery, please contact Kelly Swingle at 570-646-8585.

Calling all Members with their last name beginning with A-DIf your last name begins with the letter A, B, C or D it is time to get your Membership ID picture retaken again. The Club has

established a four year retake schedule to assure that the Membership ID cards remain current. Believe it or not we are starting the second round of the four year schedule. Please remember that it is important to make sure that your ID card actually looks like you and if you would like to update your picture before the four year cycle please stop in the Administrative Offi ce at your convenience. Members who are behind in getting their pictures updated could experience inconvenience at a LNC amenity. The LNC Staff Mem-bers have been instructed to look closely at the Membership Cards to guarantee each and every Member has their own ID card. The Club encourages the young Members to have their picture taken more often as their appearance can change considerably in just a single year. So to avoid confusion and to avoid delays stop in the Administrative Offi ce to update your Membership ID picture.

New Boat RacksThe 2013 Draw Down allowed the Club to accom-

plish many goals, one of which was the Park at Club Beach shoreline improvement. This will allow the Junior Sailing Fleet boats to be moved to the park therefore opening up the spaces in the Club Beach Marina where those boats were previously racked. The end result is in 2014 Club Beach will have 10 more waterfront shoreline racks than in previous years. The jetty at Canoe Brook Access was also enlarged to allow for the addition of fi ve more waterfront boat racks.

Boat Rental ProgramThis is the time to register your in-

terest in donating your unused boat to the Boat Rental Program. The Club is seeking Laser Sailboats and newer Sunfi sh Sailboats. In return for your donation you are entitled to 8 free boat rentals for the next fi ve seasons that can be used by yourself, your special family members and your guests.

The boat rental season begins on weekends beginning Memorial Day weekend and every day during the main summer season. The fl eet cur-rently consists of single and double kayaks, canoes and row boats. Sail-boats are available on a limited basis, once you’ve been “authorized” by a trained Member of the Sailing Staff.

For more information on pre-season Boat Donations please e-mail Opera-tions Coordinator Meredith Sensenig at [email protected] or at the Community Center (570-646-8585). Let’s get the unused boats out on the water where they belong!

From the ARCSpring will be here before you know it and when it arrives, everyone will want to enjoy

the fresh air and work outside. If you are planning to build a new house, undertake any major landscaping project or make any type of structural changes to your property, it is important that you abide by the Deed Restrictions as well as the “Architectural Standards and Requirements” for the Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Community. These standards are intended to promote harmonious design, the protection of the environment and col-lective interests of owners of property in the Community.

Included in the S&R’s is a requirement that all propane tanks be screened from sight by using either privacy lattice or landscaping that provides suffi cient screening or both for maximum buffering. During the past 6 months over 200 property owners have received letters regarding their propane tanks and many of those property owners have complied by adding lattice screens or by enhancing existing landscape. With the addition of the Code of Conduct to assist in preservation of our beautiful Community, leaving your tanks un-buffered is also a violation of the Code and can be subject to a fi ne. While fi ning is the last thing anyone wants to do, propane tanks detract from the beauty of your home and the Community. If you haven’t already done so, please be a good neighbor and screen your tank. Even less aesthetically pleasing is a bright blue tarp! Blue tarps are also not permitted in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails. Dark green and brown tarps blend so much better with our natural environment! Cramers Home Center, a short drive east on 940, usually has these in stock, along with both Lowes and Home Depot.

If you have questions regarding any ARC Standard or Requirement or if you need help fi nding a contractor to screen your propane tanks, please do not hesitate to contact Archi-tectural Coordinator Sharon Lee Heron at 570-646-9191, ext. 106.

The Votes have been Tallied and the Winners Are…Members signed into the website and voted for their four fa-

vorite calendar pictures. The picture receiving the most votes is November submitted by Bob Hesse. Second place is the Cover submitted by Lisa McCann. Third place is the July picture in the upper right corner submitted by Joe Muenichsdorfer. The fourth place winner is the May picture in the upper left corner submit-ted by Jacquie Kelley. Each winner has been awarded $50 in Club dollars. The Club would like to thank all the Members for the wonderful pictures they shared. The outpouring of photos along with great stories really sends a message of how proud the Members are of their Plati-num Club Community. It is not too early to send pictures in for the 2015 calendar!!

Share the 2014 LNC CalendarThe Membership Committee would

like to remind you that the 2014 cal-endar is a means for Club Members to share the quality of life available at Lake Naomi - Timber Trails with friends, colleagues and family. The Committee hopes you will choose a special location for the calendar in your home or offi ce where others will be able to see and enjoy the treasured pictures of LN -TT.

Referrals of potential new Property Owners and Club Members by existing Club Members has long been the num-ber one source of new Club Members. As a part of the MemberShare Referral Program, just email Communications Manager Laura Altemose at [email protected] in the event you have a MemberShare Referral Can-didate that you would like to receive their own LN - TT Calendar. Laura will see that a calendar gets right out to them. You can also call Laura at 570, 646-9191 (Ext. 104) 24 hours a day to request a calendar be sent.

Vehicle Registration Form The Lake Naomi Club is continuing its Vehicle Registration Program during 2014. All

Club Members registered with the program will receive Lake Naomi Club Identifi cation Stickers for the vehicles registered. If you would like to participate in this voluntary program please fi ll out the application that was just recently sent to you in a separate mailing. The Club encourages you to take the time now to fi ll out and return the Vehi-cle Registration Application, it will permit the Membership Department time to process your application and to include the stickers in your Membership Packet. This can save you a substantial amount of time when you come to the Administrative Offi ce to pick up your 2014 Membership Packet.

If you desire to use your stickers prior to packets being distributed (2014 stickers are required for access to Timber Trails after April 1st), stop by the Administrative Offi ce with your completed Vehicle Registration Application. The Administrative Staff will be happy to process your request.

2014 Membership Required for Golf

Although your 2013 Lake Naomi Club Membership Identifi cation re-mains valid for access to most Club facilities through May 1, 2014; a 2014 Golf Membership will be required to access the Timber Trails Golf Course starting April 18, 2014. Your coopera-tion in this matter is most appreciated. The Golf Course is scheduled (weath-er permitting) to offi cially open for weekend play beginning Friday, April 18, 2014.

Golf NotesIt is with a sad heart that I inform you that Lake

Naomi Club and long term Golf Pro, Bob Millard, have decided to part ways. Bob has served the Club for many years and we wish him the best in his future endeavors. We are actively working with the PGA to locate a new Pro who will fi t in with the needs of the Club. Every change brings with it a chance for opportunity and the Golf Committee is seizing this chance to review their 2014 schedule. They want to continue to build on the success of last year’s addition of Family Tees and the Family Golf Event and enhance long standing programs such as the Bloody Mary Tournaments and the Couples Golf outings. They are also looking at incorporating more handicap play to help balance the play-ing fi eld in some tournaments. New this year will be an exciting round of Night Golf. This will be a fun night of golf and socializing with friends, old and new. Some key dates to mark on your calendar:

• The season opening Memorial Day Tournament is Sunday, May 25th • The Ladies Golf League will be every Thursday starting on May 29th. Playing in the

Ladies League is a great way to meet new friends and rekindle old friendships. The League will conclude on August 21st followed by the luncheon.

• The First of two Bloody Mary Tournaments will be Sunday, June 29th • The Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Breast Cancer Rally Golf Tournament

will be on Thursday, July 17th. • The second annual Family Golf Event will be Sunday, July 20th *Check out the Summer Calendar for all dates and events

Springtime seems so far away but opening day at Timber Trails Golf Course is only two months away. The Logan Steele Community Center has great facilities for Members to stay in shape and keep their golf swing fi ne-tuned. The simulator is a very realistic way to hit golf shots and get instant feedback into your swing. Just ask at the Front Desk and someone can set you up.

I will keep you posted on the search for the new Golf Pro and in the interim I will be check-ing the Golf Center email, [email protected], so feel free to ask any questions you might have. Tim Brooks, Operations Manager

Timber Trails Member’s GateAs most Members know, the Timber Trails Community Association installed an au-

tomated Members gate system at the entrance to Timber Trails approximately six years ago. The gate is activated by a bar code reader that reads a bar code sticker on your vehicle and access to Timber Trails is obtained. Some of the bar code stickers that were applied fi ve and six years ago have faded and are no longer being registered by the read-er. If you are fi nding that the gate is not going up when you pass the card reader, please remove your old sticker and come to the Administrative Offi ce for a replacement sticker. This gate provides quicker access to amenities by minimizing the waiting time for guests to be signed in at the Ranger attended gate. TTCA continues to offer the benefi t of this system to Members residing in Lake Naomi. As a Lake Naomi Club Member, you can purchase a bar code sticker or stickers at a cost of $10 per sticker. Bar code stickers must be applied to the car by a Ranger or Administrative Team Member. Stickers are available for purchase and application at the Administrative Offi ce. Kindly note that the manufacturer does not recommend application of these stickers at temperatures below 35 degrees. Also ice scrapers can seriously damage the sticker, so use caution. Please remember that the sticker needs to be visible to the code reader. If the window is partially down or the sticker is covered by snow, the gate will not function. Please note – The Lake Naomi Vehicle ID stickers are also required if you are part of the optional barcode pro-gram. If you have questions regarding this program, please feel free to contact Association Manager Wendi Freeman at [email protected] or 570, 646-9191 ext. 107.

Busy Year for LN-TT RangersUnder the direction of Chief Ranger

John Lamberton, the Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Patrol Rangers were very busy during 2013 handling 5,087 calls and logging over 73,000 patrol miles on the Club’s four Ranger vehicles. During 2013 the Patrol Rangers also conducted 5,251 paid house checks and 2,361 random house checks.

The Timber Trails Gate House Rang-ers also had a busy year logging in 9,361 visitors and 4,914 contractors for a total of 14,275 sign ins. The Pa-trol Rangers are also very active with the Recreation Department by having a full-time Ranger assigned to Kids Klub and night recreation at the Community Center and conducting several safety programs at Kids Klub during the sum-mer. Congratulations to this fi ne group of men and women for their dedicated service to the property Owners of Lake Naomi – Timber Trails.

Amy Miller Serving LNC for 25 YearsIn 1988, as the Club was celebrating its 25th anniversary, Membership Coordinator

Amy Miller was beginning her employment with the Lake Naomi Club. Amy joined a staff of ten people at the Administrative Offi ce at that time with only

two computers in the entire building (imagine that!). Lake Naomi’s membership stood at about 1,400, and Amy recalls that each member’s name was individually typed on a membership card (yes, with a typewriter!) and then laminated. Each member of the family was also given a small plastic pin-on badge for beach and pool usage. (Do any of our long-time members remember these badges?) She is thankful that modern technolo-gy now plays a part in helping to gather statistics and prepare the 6000+ membership ID cards issued annually to our 1600+ members and their extended families.

Amy has seen many changes over the years, and what she enjoys most about her work here are the challenges these changes always bring. Congratulations Amy on your 25 years of service to the Lake Naomi Club!

LN - TT Fine Arts and Crafts ShowPlease mark your calendar for Saturday, August 2,

2014 for the annual Arts and Craft Show. We are in the process of accepting applications for new artists. We’re very proud of the show that has been a popular activity within the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Community since 2010, with an attendance of 900-1000 for each show. The mission for the LNC Arts & Crafts Show is two-fold: (1) to provide a celebration of the arts for the enrichment and education of the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Community through presentation of diverse, high-qual-ity visual arts and personal interaction between artists and LNC Community and (2) to convert all profi ts from the show into a donation for the local food pantry. There is a new selection process this year and we anticipate a whole new show! Victoria Flick is the new chair and will be working closely with Kelly Swingle, Community Center Manager, to make this day happen. If you’re interested in applying for the 2014 show, please send an email with subject line “LNC Arts & Crafts Show”, to Kelly Swingle at [email protected], and include the following information: phone number, mailing address and preferred email address.

The Winter Festival Was a Big HitTen days before the Winter Festival the Management Team was discussing what the plan

would be if there was no snow for the weekend. Fortunately once the Team came up with Plan B Mother Nature turned down the temperature and blanketed the area with snow. This made for a picture perfect fun Winter Festival Weekend.

The added events really brought out the competitive spirit of the Lake Naomi Club fam-ilies. The cardboard bobsled race was a HUGE hit where families came dressed in cos-tumes that matched their awesome cardboard sleds. There were Members scoping out the event so that their fi rst entry next year will be a winner. Yes this sounds like a new annual event. Another great surprise was the Olympic Curling Ring that was built by Recreation Manager Braden Meiter, not to mention the curling stones that were fabricated. Members of all ages got to learn how to do the stone push and the importance of sweeping the ice to slow the stone speed hoping it will stop in the bulls-eye. The Zumba Party raised $320 for AWSOM which was matched by an anonymous donor making the total donation $640. Check out the Winter Festival Winners

Lake Naomi Club Q & ALake Naomi Club Q & AWhat is the date for the Indepen-dence Day Picnic in 2014?

The Independence Day Picnic in 2014 will be held on Friday, July 4th.

Is it true that the Club is actively seeking a business to try and re- open the Pines Village Market (IGA) next to the Pocono Pines Post offi ce?

Yes, the Club Management Team has contacted several business owners in the surrounding area that could potentially re-open the Pines Village Market. The Club understands how import the deli and small grocery store was for our community and would love to see another business open to service Pocono Pines. If you know of a potential business person that would be interested in the location please forward the information to General Manager Robert A. Jones Jr. at [email protected]

Why does the Clubhouse request reservations for dinner in the main dining room?

The popular misconception of why the Clubhouse asks for res-ervations is so staff can be sched-uled accordingly. While this is partially true, the primary reason for reservations is to control the fl ow of the dining room business to guarantee that the service staff and kitchen staff run effi ciently. The most popular eating time is between 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM and if every Member arrives during this time period the operations of the Clubhouse become back logged which results in delayed service to the Membership. The goal is to provide consistent platinum service to the Members and reservations help the staff accomplish this. Walk-ins will al-ways be welcomed but please try to make a reservation to ensure that you receive the Platinum Club Service that you deserve.

Meet Me at the Lodge… The weather outside is freezing but the fi re is

burning at the Mountaintop Lodge and we have plenty of hot beverage options to warm you up. Each month we will be featuring a different themed hot drink in addition to our fl avored coffee option. Our featured drinks for February are a Raspberry Mocha or a White Raspberry Hot Chocolate and our fl avored coffee is Chocolate Turtle (South American roasted coffee beans fl avored in chocolate then coated with buttery, toasted Southern pecans and drizzled with caramel fl avor). Once March gets here you will be able to enjoy minty Luck O’ the Irish Lattes and Italian Crème de Mint Sodas.

If you are “friends” with us on Facebook, then you’ve seen pictures of some of our special events. We have had some great participants who have tried their hands at several cooking classes including Pumpkin-Cranberry Bread Pudding, Truffl e Trees, Strudel and Sticky Buns and a Kids in the Kitchen Class where they made Teddy Bear Bread with Strawberry-Raspberry Jam and Fresh Butter. If you’ve missed out so far, don’t worry. We have classes planned each month for Adults, Any Age Kids and 7 Plus Kids. Take a look at the list of upcoming events below and join us for some fun! Please call 570-646-6636 in advance to sign up for these classes so that we have the proper amount of ingredients and staff on hand to make things run smoothly.

If you are not into cooking classes but still want to be a part of the fun at the Lodge, you can join us for one of our weekly activities. Every Monday we have Stitch N’ Sip from 3:00-8:00 where you bring your current craft project and chat with other crafty people while stitching away. Wednesdays switch between Family Game Night from 5:00-7:00 PM (the 5th and 19th in February), and Acoustic Jam Sessions from 5:30-7:00 PM (February 12th and 26th). Our Freestyle Book Club is the last Sunday of every month from 2:00-4:00 PM and it’s a great time to come and discuss your recently read books with others…. And quite possibly discover a new favorite book or author!

Also, be sure to stop by and purchase your ticket for the “Best Kept Secrets Tour” which the Mountaintop Lodge will be participating in. This tour is already popular in the Lancaster and Berks County areas and is coming to Monroe and Carbon counties for the fi rst time. Although smaller than the more established tours, the Monroe and Carbon counties tour may introduce you to some places that you don’t yet know about. Your $8.00 ticket purchase will give you a booklet of these participating businesses, many

who will be having special events and giveaways during the two week tour period of March 21st – April 5th. As you start thinking about summer (which is right around the corner, I prom-

ise) remember that the Lodge is a great place for parties. With the help of the Culinary Team from the Lake Naomi Clubhouse we can be your go-to location for birthday and anniversary parties, baby and bridal showers and family reunions – to mention a few ideas. We’re also a great place for overfl ow guests! Have your family and friends men-tion your name when they call to make their reservations so that they receive the Friends and Family Discount.

Thursday, February 20th 5:30-7:30 Chef Don’s Baking Class “Chocolate Lovers” $22.00 Who doesn’t love chocolate? Chef Don will be teaching you to make some deca-

dent desserts that feature chocolate as one of the main ingredients. Could you ask for anything sweeter?Bad Weather Offi ce and Community Center Closing

As most residents of Lake Naomi and Timber Trails are aware, winter weather can make driving conditions in Pocono Pines and vicinity diffi cult and dangerous. This factor combined with the signifi cant distance that a number of the Club's Support Personnel travel in order to get to the Administrative Offi ce and Community Center makes staffi ng theses areas on some bad weather days a real challenge.

You can be assured that every effort will be made to have the Administrative Offi ce and Community Cen-ter open and staffed during all stated times of operation, regardless of weather conditions. However, the Club seeks your indulgence and understanding for those rare occasions when the Offi ce and/or Community Center may not be able to be staffed due to extreme weather conditions. During times of bad weather, be sure to call ahead before traveling to the Administrative Offi ce or Community Center.
