As interior designers, we spend much of our day collaboratingwith clients, architects, manufacturers, and with each other. The result is great spaces that are the benchmark of theindustry. The collaborative efforts of our chapter are providinggreat opportunities for IIDA members.

In February, the Wisconsin Chapters of IIDA and ASID hostedover 200 students at Wisconsin Interior Design Career Day.We are looking forward to 2009 and the fourth year of this collaboration.

We continue to support the Interior Design Coalition of Wisconsin (IDCW) in theirrepresentation of all designers on legislative and governmental issues. On February 26th,designers from IIDA, ASID, and NKBA attended Business Day in Madison.

Interior Perspectives 2008 represents our 11th year of collaboration with AIA Wisconsin. The result has been two days of ever-expanding benefits for the members of bothorganizations. It’s going to be another fabulous event!

The Susan Wohlitz Memorial Fund is the collaboration that is closest to my heart. Since2005, friends, family and the entire Wisconsin design community have come together toraise and distribute funds in support of interior design students.

Thank you to all of our “collaborators” for sharing our vision. Thank you to everyoneinvolved in the planning and participation of these events. Together, we can advance theprofession of interior design and influence “The FutureFutureFutureFutureFuture of Design”. I look forward toyour involvement.

Have a bright and happy spring!

4Wisconsin Interior Design Career DayWisconsin Interior Design Career DayWisconsin Interior Design Career DayWisconsin Interior Design Career DayWisconsin Interior Design Career Day

February 22, 2008 marked the third annual Wisconsin InteriorDesign Career Day and was held at the American FamilyInsurance campus in Madison, Wisconsin. Professionals fromthe Wisconsin Chapters of IIDA and ASID came together toplan and execute this valuable program for Wisconsin interiordesign students. The event is designed to help studentsunderstand the many facets of interior design, as well as, thecareer choices that are available.

200 students from Fox Valley Technical College, WaukeshaTechnical College, Madison and Milwaukee Area TechnicalColleges, Mount Mary, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Madisonattended, with a nice balance of lower and upperclassmen.

The theme of this year’s Career Day was “Leadership.” Thekeynote speaker was Christa Koskosky, the Student MarketingCoordinator for IIDA Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.

Fourteen professionals volunteered their time to give presentations during Break OutSessions on topics such as: Legislation/NCIDQ, Residential Design, Commercial Design,Technology/Branding, and Dealership/Sales.

Jocelyn Stroupe, IIDA, AAHID, from OWP&P,Chicago, joined John Balzer, MSEM, fromFroedert & Community Health for an interestingpresentation on Healthcare. Jocelyn and John areworking together on a project and were able toshow a large-scale project from start to finish.

There were also two Portfolio Review sessionswhich enabled students to get feedback fromindustry professionals. One new addition to thisyear’s event was a networking game. Thissuccessful icebreaker allowed students a platformin which to approach professionals and askquestions relating to interior design and careerchoices.

We expanded on this game during theNetworking Lunch, where a professional wasseated at each table with students. Students fromvarious schools were mixed together, allowingthem to express ideas and talk more in-depthwith professionals. The feedback was

tremendous and many students felt this was the most beneficial part of the day.

The final keynote address was given by John Horky, AIA, Kahler Slater-Milwaukee. Hewas a returning speaker from last year and gave an engaging presentation on resumes.

The student evaluations were positive and many of the comments given are the basis ofnext year’s Career Day, tentatively planned for February 20th, 2009. The theme will focuson “Professionalism” and promises to be very interactive for both the students and theprofessionals.
