Reflection for Sheila
My Weaknesses in doing the log was that I had trouble understanding the log for a while since
the assignment was introduced. At first I tried to start the log I understood how to do the
observation, decision, actions and strengths but I got confused when it came to the needs and
changes that threw me off a bit after I completed the first part of the log. After Sheila gave us a
sheet on step by step process of how to go thru and do the logs that helped me understand
how to do the needs and changes a little better. For the older infants who are going into the
toddler room soon show more temperament and they like to say “no” to everything. The log
that I did on a child that was not listening and showing temperament and I had physically
removed her from what she was doing to harm herself I didn’t know how to handle her
temperament because we hadn’t learnt about temperament as yet. With this child I tried to
redirect but that didn’t work either I think I need to work on handling temperament because I
noticed that when the child was having her temperament when I removed her it started to
make me agitated because she wasn’t listening to me but I don’t expect her to listen to me
because she is after all a child. However I would have liked for her to listen to me because in
the end she ended up falling and hurting herself and after crying a bit she still had gotten up
and went to climbing a chair.
My strengths in doing this log was that I understood how to follow and do my guidance strategy
well for each situations that was thrown at me. I understood how to handle infants that are
getting into a conflict over the same toy. Because of the age group of these infants it was fairly
easy to guide them and giving a redirection strategy. I found that for me dealing with the
younger infants and their conflicts did not agitate me at all because redirecting strategies work
well with infants because younger infants intend to like sounds and bright lights.
