About Reflect – On Academy Reflect-On Academy is a specialist training organisation (Limited Company Registered in England and Wales) approved by the Northern Council for Further Education (NCFE) to provide a variety of

courses ranging from day to day life skills, workplace skills for employees and people management skills for professionals to specific training for those interested in a career in Counselling. We also offer

Continuing Professional Development Workshops as well as conferences and seminars.

Reflect-On Academy provides training for people working or planning to work in both paid and

voluntary positions in the community. Reflect-On Academy subscribes to the BACP Code of Ethics and European Association for Counselling.

Reflect-On Academy believes there are no short cuts in either the treatment of emotional distress or in counselling training. Our clinical training course is designed to give the student sufficient time to

be able to absorb and implement counselling skills and techniques fundamental to working professionally within the therapeutic relationship at the most appropriate depth.

Professional Diploma in Relationship Counselling

The Diploma provides professional training for candidates who wish to acquire professional status as a Relationship Counselling practitioner.

With this course you’ll learn the skills you need to work with couples to discover why their

relationships are in trouble, and to help them to learn new strategies in communicating, stress relief,

dealing with baggage, and managing life in general. If you’re a qualified counsellor with the skills to help couples in conflict, join us in this course. You’ll have an amazing time learning how to use your

Who is This Course For?

This qualification applies to workers who are employed in a family and/or couple’s relationship

counselling role. This qualification has particular relevance to counsellors working in independently or in organisations, providing counselling interventions, (rather than counselling support), for families

and/or couples experiencing relationship issues of a complex nature.

Entry Requirements A completed application and a personal interview

Non-academic entry guidelines

An applicant is required to demonstrate his/her suitability for the course, self-awareness and a

sense of direction towards professional counselling in an interview. References will be sought from the referees nominated by the candidate

Graduate Diploma in counselling Specific entry pathways include:

The Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Reflect-On Academy, or equivalent;

diploma level qualification from another organisation (minimum 450 face-to-face training hours)

150 clinical practicum hours (minimum) over 2 years.

The aims of the programme are to:

1. Provide candidates with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the theoretical approach to relationship counselling and practice

2. Provide learning opportunities that will enable candidates to develop extensive knowledge and understanding of a range of advanced skills, and systematically evaluate the effectiveness of the

planning and delivery of relationship counselling and develop effective strategies to meet the

specific needs of their client group.

3. Provide a link between research and the practice of counselling that can be applied to analysing

the complexities of counselling theory and practice, gain knowledge about the methods of inquiry used in counselling research to assess and evaluate the practice of counselling (i.e. conduct a

research proposal into their own practice and client work). 4. Provide an inter-professional, inter-disciplinary learning environment in which candidates will feel

safe and secure enough to explore much deeper insight into their own personal development that

will relate to their professional development as relationship counsellor. 5. Provide opportunities for candidates to experience a broad range of contexts to enable them to

identify their own attitudes, values and beliefs and to explore the potential impact of these upon the counselling relationship.

6. Help foster students’ professional identities as Relationship counsellors. 7. Provide students’ the opportunity to receive high-quality supervision of their clinical work from

professionals outside of the program.

8. Prepare students for employment in the field of Relationship Counsellor.

Professional Diploma in Clinical Supervision

This Diploma course provides participants with an opportunity to further develop their knowledge of

and practice of clinical supervision. The course is structured to provide the opportunity to critically evaluate and apply current models in the theory and practice of counselling supervision. You will

develop the appropriate skills to become a more effective and informed counselling supervisor and

will be able to reflect on current issues that relate to counselling supervision practice

Level: Post Professional

Mode: Part-time – 12-months (1Year) Time: 9.30am – 5.30pm (1-Saturday a month, including 2 Friday sessions)

Qualification hours: 120 Start Date: Flexible (March/April 2016)

Validation: NCFE (subject to approval)

Accreditation: There is no British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

programme accreditation scheme for supervision training programmes. The programme will however support practitioners to gain individual accreditation as a supervisor with the BACP, and is designed

to be consistent with the BACP Reflective Practice criteria. The programme is also informed by the Supervision Competences Framework for the supervision of psychological therapies commissioned by

Skills for Health (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/clinicalpsychology/CORE/supervision_framework.htm)

Fees: £1,190 Limited Concessions available. Easy Payment Methods Instalments (payments by

monthly direct debit, cheque or cash only).

Who is This Course for? Programme is for practising counsellors and psychotherapists and supervisors (usually with 2 years

post qualifying experience) in a relevant workplace setting/private practice.

Entry Requirements A professional qualification in counselling or psychotherapy, and at least one year post-qualifying

experience in counselling or psychotherapy and wish to develop their supervision abilities and

practice, and meets the required standards for supervision training.

The aims of the programme are to: 1. Develop their knowledge of the theory and practice of supervision

2. Demonstrate understanding of legal, ethical and professionally issues relevant to supervision and

to be aware of the importance of ongoing support and consultation for the supervisor 3. Enhance their work with clients by developing a reflective internal supervisor.

4. Offer a range of interventions taking into account the stage of the supervisory relationship and the stage of the supervisee’s development

5. Know and be able to discuss critically relevant theory

6. Demonstrate understanding of different models of supervision 7. Understand how to structure supervision to meet their own and their supervisees' needs and

build a productive relationship between supervisor and supervisee

8. To build up the systematic skills required of a supervisor in individual, group and organisational

settings (the course does not provide instruction about specific therapies). 9. To set up, maintain and terminate a working alliance with supervisees that takes into

consideration their learning needs and developmental stage. 10. To monitor the supervisee’s work so that the client is getting the best service possible and the

supervisee is developing as a professional person.

11. Understand and explore common supervision problems and dilemmas and practice their resolution

This qualification and serves as an introduction to the principles of teaching, training and learning. The knowledge gained will help candidates to make informed decisions about their own progression.

In addition to providing a first step towards qualification for FE Lecturers, the course will also be appropriate to any practising or intending teacher, trainer or learning assistant who works in the post

compulsory sector.

Who is This Course For? People considering teaching or teachers who are new to employment in the education and training

sector – further and higher education, adult and community education, work based learning, private

training companies or voluntary organisations.

Entry Requirements The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an introduction to teaching. Whilst there are no

formal entry requirements you are required to have evidence of Level 3 vocational skills for the area

in which you will train/teach. Word processing skills are needed as all assignments must be word processed. If you are to progress into teaching in the further education and skills sector

(level 4) you should have good written and spoken English and IT literate (Level 2).

The aims of the programme are to:

The course content and practical elements will be covered in an intensive four-day programme. You should expect to dedicate around 30 hours of private study in addition to classroom lectures, but will

have access to staff and resources during the course.

On completion of the course you will know about: Own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching

Appropriate teaching and learning approaches in your specialist area

Demonstrating session planning skills

How to deliver inclusive sessions which engage and motivate learners

To achieve the Award, you must successfully complete both the theory and practical assessments. This includes delivering a 15 minute micro-teach session to your peers during the course, and

completing written assignments, which you will be required to submit on completion of the taught sessions
