Acknowledgement of Country and Traditional OwnersIcon Group would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Australian land. We pay our respects to their elders past and present and recognise their cultural heritage, beliefs and relationship with this land. We thank them for their ongoing custodianship.

TerminologyThroughout our Reconciliation Action Plan, the terms Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Indigenous and Traditional Owners and Custodians are used. However, we understand that some people identify with other cultural names and the terminology used in this document may not reflect the diversity of all Indigenous people.

The design was inspired by a collection of words generated by Icon Group team members. These are terms we believe encompass our vision for Reconciliation.Artwork @ Amanda Hayman

Artist Statement by Amanda HaymanI use weaving as a metaphor for Indigenous culture. Colonisation affected the continuation of cultural practices; fibres were cut and damaged, weavings unravelled and significant techniques and knowledge was lost, yet Indigenous culture is perpetual, and we have the ability to all work together to reunite, repair and strengthen threads that hold us together. During the act of weaving, I acknowledge the people who have come before us and where the skills originated. It’s a time of reflection and recognition of Australia’s history. As I weave, I also become very aware of the present; the materiality of the yarn and the energy of the company I’m with. It’s a time for unity, peace and forgiveness. As the circular form grows, it represents equality, harmony, fairness and respect. Weaving together, we can create strong relationships for a better future.

Message of Commitment Icon Group CEO, Mark MiddletonIcon Group, Australia’s largest provider of integrated cancer care, is an organisation built on a commitment to exceptional patient care, value adding partnerships, innovation and the wellbeing of our people. We are pleased to have established our first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) with these values in mind, which will serve to demonstrate the commitment we have made to reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations.

Icon Group is strongly committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, communities and families. Our company encourages all team members to develop knowledge of Indigenous health issues and to embrace cultural competency in their day to day roles. As a national leader in the provision of cancer care we acknowledge our ability to increase equity and accessibility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to the service we provide.

Our REFLECT RAP is our public commitment to setting stronger foundations to establishing relationships built on respect, and to strive diligently for equity in outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the broader Australian community. This strengthens our aim to improve the health outcomes of Indigenous Australians and their families and to continually strive to ‘Close the Gap’ in health.

4

At Icon Group our beliefs are simple - we want to deliver exceptional patient care, and provide access to world-class treatment to our cancer patients and pharmacy clients. We do this by investing in a great team of people to deliver our services.

These beliefs have seen us become the fastest growing provider of cancer care in Australasia since coming together as a group in 2015, and we now deliver cancer care to hundreds of thousands of Australians.

While our history may be short and productive, many of our component businesses have been pillars of the Australian healthcare community for decades.

Diversity at IconIcon Group team members were invited to complete a questionnaire designed to collect targeted information relating to the diversity of our workforce. In addition to the questionnaire, further data will be gathered from new employees. The statistical profile generated from the information, will be used to develop policies and planning for diversity initiatives within the organisation including increasing opportunities for Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islanders. Icon Group currently has 1711 staff nationally, with five staff who identify as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander.

Icon Cancer Care Icon Cancer Care is Australia’s largest private provider of cancer care, managing more than 78,000 patient treatment visits each year through a network of more than 100 doctors. We have a proud history of pioneering private cancer care in Australia and operating best-practice day hospitals for more than 25 years. We currently employ more than 360 staff and operate six day hospitals across Queensland and South Australia. Our doctors also support private cancer care services in regional centres. Our specific focus on cancer and haematological care means we have no competing priorities. All of our people and resources are dedicated to the unique needs of our cancer and haematology patients. We are also committed to improving access to clinical research trials for patients through the reach of the Icon Cancer Foundation. Our vision is to be Australia’s first-choice provider of cancer care by 2017.

Radiation Oncology Centres (ROC) Radiation Oncology Centres (ROC), offer a comprehensive range of specialist and general radiation therapy treatment options to the Australian population. ROC has experienced enormous growth since its humble beginnings opening its doors for the first time in Toowoomba, 2007. Since integrating with the Icon Cancer Care family, ROC has grown rapidly to include over 10 centres Australia wide, with many more to come. ROC prides itself on exemplary patient and family care while pursuing technical and high quality radiation therapy treatment options. ROC, without compromise, fosters innovation, research, collaboration and multi-disciplinary patient care. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and

experienced Radiation Oncologists, ROC offers high quality, affordable radiation therapy services and is a national leader in cancer care.

Icon Integrated Cancer Centres Icon Integrated Cancer Centres bring together medical oncology, haematology, radiation oncology and pharmacy to deliver a true end-to-end service for patients. Integrated centres deliver all aspects of a patient’s cancer treatment at one site, from diagnosis to making a patient’s chemotherapy, providing onsite pharmacy support and giving treatment – be that radiation or chemotherapy.

Slade HealthSlade Health operates four TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) licensed manufacturing facilities which prepare chemotherapy infusions for supply to major hospitals and day treatment facilities throughout regional and metropolitan Australia. The Slade manufacturing sites utilise leading technology to ensure all product is manufactured to the highest quality standards, and its team of over 500 people share the Icon Group’s commitment to exceptional patient care.

Epic Pharmacy & Slade PharmacyEpic Pharmacy and Slade Pharmacy are dynamic, values-driven organisations providing quality medicine and health management services to the hospital, oncology and aged care sectors. Whilst always striving to provide the best pharmacy services for patients and our corporate and not-for-profit partners, Epic and Slade are constantly exploring innovative new technologies and their application to enhanced patient care initiatives.

We believe Icon Group is well placed to have a successful RAP because:

• Our people have expressed their interest and desire in being part of the Icon Group RAP and to see change both inside and outside the organisation

• We have a supportive work environment which includes people from a diverse range of cultural and geographic backgrounds, as illustrated in our recent employee survey. We believe this accepting culture sees us well equipped to welcome an increased number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples into employment opportunities within the group, and we commit to ensuring all future employment opportunities are promoted through Indigenous networks

• We have diverse opportunities across a broad range of career paths including health, administration, manufacturing, technology and transport, allowing us to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people a wide variety of roles ranging from those which require no previous experience or qualifications all the way through to the highest of tertiary degrees. We look to partner with agencies such as Career Trackers in order to create more avenues for Indigenous people into our workplaces nationally

• Icon Group believes in providing equity and accessibility to healthcare for all Australians. We have already established a large number of centres in regional Australia to allow Australians living in those areas access to high quality health services without having to travel long distances to a capital city. We will develop partnerships with key Indigenous organisations like the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, and Indigenous Allied Health Australia, to develop strategies on how best to deliver those service.

Our RAP: Why does Icon Group want to develop a RAP?

Icon Group recognises the importance of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples history and cultures, and the role it plays in Australian society today. In establishing this RAP we aim to develop and show respect through acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land across our sites and demonstrate our desire to work with community leaders where our sites are located. We believe that raising awareness and increasing knowledge within our organisation about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples will help us serve our clientele better. We also want to turn our good intentions and goodwill into actions that make a real difference in the health sector. In that light, we are committed to working towards Closing the Gap through the services we provide but also by creating equal employment opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through future scholarship and mentorship programs.

Cathie Reid, Co-Owner of Epic Pharmacy, was instrumental in the creation of the RAP Working Group once employing Dr Anita Heiss to manage the Epic Good Foundation. Anita talked through a proposed approach with Mark Middleton - CEO of Icon Group - and together they discussed the role of a Working Group and the commitment required by members. Mark invited individuals from across Icon Group whom he believed would serve the business and our RAP process best, to ensure the successful development and implementation of the RAP. Each individual currently on the Working Group accepted the invitation with enthusiasm and has participated in the process of developing the document and our plan for the future.

At the time of writing this document Dr Anita Heiss from the Wiradjuri nation of central NSW is the only Indigenous member of the working group.

To ensure effective implementation of the RAP we have developed a list of measures to track our progress. We have also appointed Toni Sisson as Senior RAP Champion to work with us as a senior member of the Icon Group Management Team. Toni is the Executive Manager of Oncology Development at Icon Consolidated Holdings. As Senior RAP Champion Toni will regularly report back to the Icon Group Executives on progress of the Reconciliation Action Plan.

The Working Group expects that each of the 87 sites of Icon Group (some sites join to form a cluster in a few areas) will nominate their own RAP Champions by the end of 2016. Champions will follow a ‘RAP Champion Brief’ and also create and resource their own sub-group (where required) to fulfil commitments on the ground.

The RAP Working Group is made up of:

Cathie Reid (Chair, Co-Founder, Epic Health Care Group)

Toni Sisson (Senior RAP Champion, Executive Manager, ROC)

Dr Anita Heiss (RAP Convenor, Manager, Epic Good Foundation)

Anne Burrow (Cancer Care, HR Manager)

Mariaan Conradie (Icon Group, Group HR Manager)

Kate Crilly (Brand and Communication, Icon Group)

Rhys Fitzgerald (Radiation Therapist, ROC/Icon Integrated Cancer Care)

Kylie Prout (Executive Director, People - SLADE)

Janelle van der Walt (Administration Manager, Icon Cancer Care)

In 2015, Epic Pharmacy had their first Indigenous trainee - Glenn Macdonald - graduate through their Kempsey office. Assisted by the Mid-Coast Connect branch of TAFE and financially supported by the Pharmacy Guild, Glenn graduated with a Certificate II in Community Pharmacy. He successfully completed his HSC and went onto the University of NSW to do a prep program, with broader aspirations to work in film and television. In 2016, two new Indigenous trainees - Sarah Heuston and Chloe Lovegood - have been secured with the assistance yet again of Mid-Coast direct.

In 2016 the Port Macquarie office of Epic Pharmacy also has a school-based Indigenous trainee, again partly funded by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. Leteasha-May Tipler-Ruttley will finish years 11 and 12, complete the Certificate II in Pharmacy through TAFE, and is able to do hospital pharmacy as a Year 12 subject that counts towards her ATAR.

The Maroochydore site of ROC has a long history of community engagement with the local Gubbi Gubbi / Kabi Kabi people, having introduced an Adopted Elder program, staff completing cultural awareness

training and building signage acknowledging the local Traditional Elders as far back as 2011. The learnings from this site, purchased by the Icon Group in 2015, are now being used to build a template for all Icon Group sites in future community partnerships.

In 2015, the Epic Good Foundation - which is funded by Epic Pharmacy and sits under the Icon Group banner - announced support for, and a partnership with Hawthorn Football Club’s Indigenous Program. This commitment will continue until 2020.

On Indigenous Literacy Day 2015, Icon Group staff at central office held a Great Book Swap to raise awareness and cash for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF). In 2016, through the Epic Good Foundation, Icon Group was part of a major Reconciliation Week celebration and fundraising event in Brisbane. Titled ‘Kick On for Literacy’, the event was partnered with the ILF and raised funds for much needed literacy resources in remote communities. At the same time, the Epic Good Foundation also announced a formal partnership with the ILF and fundraising activities have been coordinated in Brisbane since then.

Our Partnerships and Current Activities

10

In Reconciliation Week 2016, every Icon Group site was gifted an Aboriginal Wall Map from the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies, and teams were asked to decide where the map should be placed and to participate in an activity highlighting Traditional Owners of Country in each region. Thirty-three out of the 87 sites nationally participated, including:

• Icon Cancer Care – four sites

• Radiation Oncology Centres –  all nine sites

• Epic Pharmacy – 13 sites

• Slade – five sites

• Integrated Centre at Northlakes

• Icon Group Head Office, South Brisbane

In NAIDOC Week 2016, in the lead up to launching our REFLECT RAP, we invited all Icon team members to participate in an online NAIDOC Quiz. Devised by our RAP Convenor, the quiz aimed to increase general knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander facts around health, the arts, sport, culture, history, politics and pop culture. Participants were also invited to offer a word that defined ‘Reconciliation’ for them. Those words (above) inform our vision for our RAP.

July 2016, the Epic Good Foundation co-launched Shock ‘Em!: stories of the Big River Hawks - a literacy project coordinated by Working Group member Dr Anita Heiss on behalf of EGF and in partnership with the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the Hawthorn Indigenous Program. And in August, Epic Good supported Anita Heiss to work with St Peters Lutheran College, Indooroopilly, to raise awareness for the ILF during Book Week. A total of $4000 was generated through school activities lead by student Sam Giles.
