This document is for customers using or interested in Refinitiv FX Trading (FXT).

IN THIS DOCUMENT

This document provides information about the FXT Updater facility that is used to install FXT. This includes using the FXT Updater, starting FXT, Log files etc.

Warning: It is mandatory that all FXT users have upgraded to FXT 7.7 or above by 31 July 2021. If you have already upgraded to FXT 7.7 it is not mandatory to upgrade to FXT 7.8 although it is recommended.

Chapter 1 Overview

INTRODUCTION

From Refinitiv FX Trading 7.1, there is an optional update mechanism to allow FX Trading clients to upgrade their current version to a newer or latest supported version of FXT. The FXT Updater is an integrated software update feature that does not require the user to perform a download of software and full installation of the FXT GUI in order to upgrade.

FXT 7.8 is a 64-bit only application. Clients currently running on a 32-bit operating system cannot use the FXT Updater. Support for FXT running on 32-bit operating system finished on 15 November 2019. See PCN 10497 for details.

FEATURES

Using the FXT Updater provides the following features.

• Simpler and quicker way to download and install the latest version of FXT. You do not need to go to MyRefinitiv to download the software and then install it.

• Simple mechanism for restoring your previous version of FXT.

• If you have done a default installation of FXT, shortcuts will point to the latest version.

Up to and including FXT 7.5:

o Windows 8 and 10 - Start Menu > Programs > FXT Current > FX Trading

FXT 7.6 and above:

o Windows 8 and 10 - Start Menu > Programs > Refinitiv FXT Current > Refinitiv FX Trading

Chapter 2 End User License Agreement for

Refinitiv FX Trading

As part of FX Trading version 7.7, the End User License Agreement (EULA) was updated to include the Refinitiv name. Users have to accept the EULA as part of the installation or upgrade process. The licence agreement dialog box is only displayed when upgrading from FXT 7.7 to FXT 7.8. Users upgrading from FXT 7.6 or below see Acceptance of EULA terms.

ACCEPTANCE OF EULA TERMS

If a user is upgrading FXT from version 7.6 or below using the FXT Updater tool, the End User License Agreement is not displayed. By using the FXT Updater tool it is assumed by Refinitiv the user agrees to the terms of the EULA. The EULA for FXT version 7.8 is displayed below.

END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR REFINITIV FX TRADING 7.8

Refinitiv FX Trading is provided under license, subject to the relevant services contract agreed between the Customer and relevant member of the Refinitiv Group. You acknowledge that any user IDs and passwords used to access Refinitiv FX Trading cannot be shared. The Refinitiv Group owns all intellectual property rights in Refinitiv FX Trading or has obtained from a third party the right to supply them to you. You agree that you will acquire no proprietary rights to Refinitiv FX Trading.

"Customer" means the entity which has authorized you to use Refinitiv FX Trading.

"Refinitiv Group" means Refinitiv Holdings Limited and any entity that, from time to time, is directly or indirectly controlled by Refinitiv Holdings Limited.

"Control" means the power to direct or cause the direction of the management or policies of such entity, whether through the ownership of voting securities, by contract, or otherwise.

1. EXPORT CONTROL.

You agree to the export control requirements as set forth below:

I am not a citizen, national or resident of, and am not under the control of, the government of: Cuba, Iran, Sudan, North Korea, Syria, nor any other country to which the United States prohibits export.

I am not located in, and I will not download or otherwise transfer, export or re-export Refinitiv FX Trading directly or indirectly, to the above-mentioned countries nor to citizens, nationals or residents of those countries.

I am not listed on the United States Department of the Treasury lists of Specially Designated Nationals, Specially Designated Terrorists, and Specially Designated Narcotic Traffickers, nor am I listed on the United States Department of Commerce Denied Persons Lists, Entities Lists or Unverified Parties list, or any other Government's list.

I will not download or otherwise transfer, export or re-export Refinitiv FX Trading, directly or indirectly, to persons on the above-mentioned lists.

I will not use Refinitiv FX Trading for, and will not allow Refinitiv FX Trading to be used for, any purposes prohibited by United States law.

I will not use Refinitiv FX Trading for proliferation activities (missile, chemical, biological, nuclear).

Updater

INTRODUCTION

When a new version of FXT has been released you will be able to install it using the FXT Updater. This can be a major version or a minor version (including patch release).

NOTE There are additional steps if you are upgrading from FXT 7.5 or below. See The upgrade process on page 11.

The FXT Updater is automatically installed as part of FXT.

HOW TO LAUNCH THE FXT UPDATER

There are three different ways to start the FXT Updater:

• Launch FXT from the Start Menu

• Launch FXT from the FXT application

• Launch FXT from the Configuration Manager (only available from FXT 7.2.x)

Launching FXT from the Start Menu

1. Select Start > Programs > FX Trading > 7.n.n.nnn > Tools > FX Trading Updater.

or

Select Start > Programs > FX Trading 7.n.n.nnn > FX Trading Updater.

2. The FX Trading Updater window is displayed.

Launching FXT from the FXT application

In FXT select Help > Update FX Trading.


Launching FXT from the Configuration Manager (only available from FXT 7.2.x)

NOTE Launching FXT from the Configuration Manager is available only available to clients that are using FXT 7.2 or above.

1. Select Start > Programs > FX Trading > Current/7.n.n.nnn > FX Tools > Configuration Manager.

Or

Select > Start > Programs > FX Trading 7.n.n.nnn > Configuration Manager.

2. In the navigation panel on the left select Update FX Trading Version.

A newer version of FX Trading is available is displayed if there is a version of FXT you can install.

3. Click the Update FX Trading button.





THE UPGRADE PROCESS

When upgrading to FXT 7.8 from FXT 7.5 or below there are now two steps required to complete the installation.

1. Using any of the processes listed in the previous section, display the FX Trading Updater window.

2. Select the 7.8.0.nn radio button.

3. Click the Update button. The software will be downloaded. It is approximately 300MB.

After the first part of the installation process has been completed the following window will be displayed:

4. Click the Close button. You will now be required to run the FXT Updater again to complete the installation process. The path to launch the FXT Updater will temporarily change to below and is different from the path you used to launch the FXT Updater.

5. Select Start > Programs > FXT Current > FX Trading Updater.

NOTE The FXT Current folder is a temporary folder and will be removed after the installation process has been completed.




The Refinitiv FX Trading Updater will launch and Post Processing will start:

When Post Processing has been completed the following window is displayed:

6. Click the Close button.

The path to launching FXT 7.8 will be Start > Programs > Refinitiv FX Trading Current.

7. The newly installed version of FXT can be run. See Chapter 5 How to start FXT after using the FXT Updater.

Chapter 4 How to run the FXT Updater via a script




INTRODUCTION

The script functionality is only available to clients that are using FXT 7.2 or above.

NOTE Any script written for versions prior to FXT 7.5 or below, named “FX Trading Updater.exe”, needs to add a second run of the updater using the 7.7 or above updater, named “Refinitiv FX Trading Updater.exe” which will be located in the target installation directory, with an extra parameter -Dfxt.updater.postprocess to perform post processing. Scripts running the 7.7 updater or above do not need this second step.

Script/command line functionality is available when using the FXT Updater. The upgrade process can be triggered by a simple command.

Information about the installation can be found in the Updater log files. See Chapter 6 Updater Log files on page 17 for information on where to find the log files.

NOTE When running the script, please use the entire string including the quotation marks.

PATHS USED IN THIS DOCUMENT

This document contains sample paths to the commands. These paths will vary according to which version of FXT was installed and whether defaults were accepted or different locations specified. The paths should be the shortcut that the trader uses to launch the application. That path could vary from one installation to the next.

NOTE The 7.3 release of the updater changed the name of the default shortcut folder.

Full silent mode

In full silent mode, the updater tool is started and checks if a new version is available. If a new version is available, the update tool will download and install the update. The upgrade process is actioned and completed automatically with no user action required. No popup windows are displayed on the end users’ screen. The upgrade has been successful dialog box is also not displayed.

Semi silent

In semi silent mode, the updater tool is started and checks if a new version is available. If a new version is available, the update tool will download and install the update. The upgrade process is actioned and completed automatically with no user action required. Some popup windows ARE displayed on the end users’ screen including the upgrade has been successful message.

Full GUI mode

In Full GUI mode, the standard Updater GUI tool is launched. End users follow the standard manual process to update FXT GUI software versions.

As detailed in Chapter 4, the updater tool creates a “current” shortcut folder that can be used to launch the latest version of FXT. The following shortcut can be used to access the updater shortcut:

Updater

FXT can be launched via shortcuts created on the Start menu. If the FXT updater tool is used to upgrade the FXT version then the shortcuts paths can change. The shortcuts paths are different depending on the following:

• FXT version

• Installation method

- Manual Install (Installanywhere)

- FXT Updater (FX Trading Updater.exe)

• Windows version

- Windows 8, 8.1

- Windows 10

After using the FXT Updater tool for the above installation, new shortcuts are created. As Windows 10 does not support sub folders an FXT Current folder is created.

To launch FXT select Start > All Programs > Refinitiv FX Trading Current > Refinitiv FX Trading. The FXT Login window is displayed.

NOTE Using the above shortcut will always launching the last version of FXT installed using the FXT Updater.

Separate log files are generated when the updater is run. These log files can be used by support groups and contain information on the actions that the updater tool has taken.

*USERNAME* is the Windows username of the user.

Updater.log is a plain text file that is not encrypted.

When you use FXT Updater the software will be installed in a different way from when doing a manual install and downloading the software from MyRefinitiv.

Manual install FXT Updater

File location

The default location for manual installation is

C:\Program Files (x86)\Thomson Reuters\FX Trading\n.n.n.nnn

The location for an FXT Updater installation is the same as the last manual installation location. By default this is C:\Program Files (x86)\Thomson Reuters\FX Trading\n.n.n.nnn

When you use the FXT Updater to install FXT, a backup of your current version is automatically created. The backup version can be restored from the FX Trading Updater window.

When you restore to a previous version, FXT is accessed from the new Refinitiv FX Trading Current program paths. Any paths or shortcuts you previously used may not work.

HOW TO RESTORE MY BACKUP

1. Close FXT.

2. If you have done a default installation of FXT, select Start > Programs > Refinitiv FX Trading > Current > Tools > Refinitiv FX Trading Updater.

Or

Start > Programs > Refinitiv FX Trading Current > Refinitiv FX Trading Updater.

The FX Trading Updater window is displayed.

3. Click the Restore 7.n.n.nn from last backup radio button.

4. Click the Restore button. Restore complete is displayed.

5. Launch the restored version of FXT by selecting:

Start > Programs > Refinitiv FX Trading > Current > Refinitiv FX Trading (Windows 8, 8.1)

or

Start > Programs > Refinitiv FX Trading Current > Refinitiv FX Trading (Windows 10)

NOTE Depending on the version being rolled back to the Windows shortcuts may not be correct. In such cases it is recommend that you access the FX Trading.exe GUI direct from the default installation location. The default location for manual installation is C:\Program Files\Refinitiv\Refinitiv FX Trading\7.n.n.nn.

How long will the software package take to download?

The length of time to download the software will vary according to whether you are using Internet, delivery direct, and the available bandwidth. We recommend using internet to download. Network

NOTE Downloading to a network drive can take longer.

How big is the download?

The software download file is about 300 MB.

When can I use the FXT Updater?

You can use the FXT Updater to install FXT 7.8 and any subsequent patch release or major release.

How do you launch the FXT Updater?

See How to launch the FXT Updater on page 9.

How do I install the FXT Updater?

The FXT Updater is automatically installed as part of FXT. And will be installed as part of every FXT release.

Do you need admin rights to run the FXT Updater?

You need the same admin rights for installing FXT in the usual way, as for installing FXT using the FXT Updater.

What versions can I update to?

You can use the FXT Updater to install any subsequent version of FXT. This can be a patch release or a major release.

What version of FXT am I currently using?

Your current version of FXT is displayed at the top left hand corner of FXT:

How do I create a desktop shortcut for the FXT Updater?

After you have used the FXT Updater to install FXT, you can create a desktop shortcut.

1. Select Start > Programs > FX Trading > Current > Tools.




Can the updater be run via a script, or command line?

Yes, see Chapter 4 How to run the FXT Updater via a script on page 13.

How do I block the FXT Updater?

The FXT Updater can be blocked at a network level from communicating with our host systems. Blocking the FXT Updater IP addresses will prevent all users at the site from being able to update their FXT version via the FXT Updater. See Chapter 10 FXT Updater FQDNs.

How do I remove the FXT Updater?

For clients that locally package the FXT GUI for local distribution and do not want an update function, they can simply remove the “FX Trading Updater.exe” file. See Chapter 7 File location, menu structure and shortcuts for location of file.

Once removed, if the user tries to launch the FXT Updater, the following error message will be displayed:
