Dear Ms Noone,

Please find attached Q1 2020 Surface Water and Stormwater Monitoring required by Waste Licence WO19502 for Kilmainhamwood Compost.

The monitoring indicates that the discharge from the facility (SW3) has met the trigger values outlined in Condition 5.3 of the Waste Licence. Analysis obtained for SW1 and SW2 also confirm results were within the levels outlined in EC Environmental Objectives (Surface Water) Regulations 2009 with the exception of BOD. Both samples had exceedances of the BOD trigger level. As the sample taken from SW3, the discharge pipe, was below the trigger level for BOD, the site did not cause the levels seen a t the ambient monitoring points.

1. Introduction

This report details the results of surface water and storm water analysis of samples taken by Franics Fynn and Lorraine Walsh on the 18th March 2020 and collected and analysed by ALS Labratories.

This report has been prepared in compliance with Schedule C.3 and C.4 of Waste Licence WO195-02.

2.1 Monitoring Locations

The monitoring point locations for surface water are those set out in Drawing MESM009 of the application for Licence WO195-02. These locations are illustrated in Figure 1. Roof runoff and yard runoff are sampled a t the SW3 storm water discharge location. These two water sources were combined in 2015.

4. Surface water Interpretation of Results for Quarter 1 2020

The surface water results have been assessed against EC Environmental Objectives (Surface Water) Regulations 2009 as requested by the Agency (site visit report SV01504 on the llfh August 2014).

SW1 is downstream of the main activities of the site (Table 1) and SW2 is upstream of the main activities of the site (Table 2). Both samples had higher levels of BOD. As the upstream sample, SW2, had high levels, i ts is assumed this contributed to the high level in the downstream sample, SW1, and was not a factor of the composting site.

5. Storm Water Interpretation of Results for Quarter 1 2020

Sampling a t SW3 represents the combined discharge of the storm water from the roof run off and the yard area (Table 3). Trigger level limits are set out in license condition 5.3 for BOD, suspended solids and ammonia and there were no exceedances in these trigger levels.
