COMMITMENTREESE & RAY’S IGA

Reese & Ray’s IGA4B SUNDAY, MARCH 27, 2011 SIDNEY HERALD

A commitment to the com-munity. That’s the commit-ment Reese and Ray’s IGA inSidney made throughout thebusiness remodel. Not onlydid the project show that thecompany is growing with thecommunity but is also excit-ed to be there for whateverthe future brings.

“We want to remind ourcustomers that we’re not go-ing anywhere,” store manag-er Emily Hoff said.

When owners ReeseLeaVesseur and RayO’Loughlin purchased thestore in 2006, they intendedthe store to be a source ofpride for Sidney and its sur-rounding area. With hopes tobecome the marketplace forthe community to shop inconvenience and enjoy acomforting atmosphere, theconstruction began in thesummer of 2010.

“We are doing this for ourcustomers. They deserve it,”LeaVesseur said.

Every section has been up-dated during the project andthe floor plan has beenchanged to allow shoppersmore room. Another addi-tion to the store is the R&RCoffee Nook located in thedeli.

“It’s a great place for cus-tomers to gather and have aconversation,” Hoff said.“It’s been a definite hit sofar.”

The store has a local touch. One example of this is theaisle signs that were in-spired by a trip to Minneso-ta.

“We were at a store there, and they had names ofrivers for their aisle markers

and I thought that was justcool,” O’Loughlin said.

Then Hoff and the ownerswanted a way to have signsbe relevant to the area so de-cided to name each aisle af-ter area communities. At theend of each aisle, picturesgathered from the MonDakHeritage Center stand to rep-resent the area.

“We’ve had tons of peoplecomment on them,” Hoffsaid. “They seem to reallyenjoy them.”

Reese and Ray’s IGAearned community honorswhen they received the 2010Horizon Award from the Sid-ney Area Chamber of Com-merce and Agriculture. Theaward is given to a business

in existence for more thanfive years, but has continuedto break new ground andmove forward.

“It says a lot about thecommunity’s support of thisproject,” LeaVesseur said.

Hoff added, “It just meansso much to us.”

Reese and Ray’s IGA is acommunity-minded storethat supports the Boys andGirls Club of Richland Coun-ty, the Richland County FoodBank, area schools and theirprojects, Special Olympics,

Foundation for CommunityCare and a number of othernon-profit organizations ofRichland County.

Part of the IGA name isthe mission of being “Home-town Proud,” and Reese andRay’s IGA is a great repre-sentation of that.

“We’re here for the com-munity,” Hoff said. “Withoutour customers, we’re just abig building.”

The business’ ribbon-cut-ting will be held at Wednes-day at 9 a.m. The community

is welcome to partake in thecelebration and see the com-pleted project. There will betons of savings in the com-ing weeks.

“There’s going to be somegreat deals,” Hoff said.

The owners are extremelyoptimistic about the storeand its relation to the com-munity.

“We’re just so excitedabout our future in Sidney,”O’Loughlin said. “It’s a spe-cial town and I think ourstore will be a perfect fit.”
