President’s Message

June 2018

President Brad Seder ~707.331-2035 ~ [email protected]

It’s hard to believe July 4th and mid-summer is right around the corner. This has been a busy

year for Karin and myself with lots of changes coming soon for us. Karin is retiring in October

and we are in the process of selling our business. That all means we have had less time for club

stuff than we’d like, but hopefully that will improve this fall. I don’t know though, most of you

tell me you are busier after retirement than while you were still working!

As some of you know, I’ve been looking at wagons and other cars more suitable than what we

currently have for hauling grandchildren. I found one on Craig’s list that was a delayed estate

sale. The owner’s father built the car in the late 90’s and passed a short time later. The car has

been sitting in her garage ever since, under a cover, and she finally decided it was time for it to

see sunlight again.

My offer was accepted, and now I’m wondering how I’m going to keep three classics in running

order. The sad part of the story (aside from the fact this guy died just after finishing his car) is

that the current owner has two sons in their early 20’s, and neither of them had any interest in

the car at all.

I’ll have it on the road soon, and you won’t be able to miss this one as it is painted Plum Crazy.

Oh, and what is it you ask? Well, it’s got a 350/350 combo with a 10” rear and a Camaro front

clip. Sitting on all this wonderful running gear is a ‘47 Plymouth Special Deluxe 4-door sedan.

Not the Nomad I was looking for, but this car has plenty of room inside!

Now I have two Plymouths and one Chevy - can I still be your President?

See you on the road,

Brad

Vice President Report

June 2018

Vice President Larry Marcom 707.523.2415 [email protected]

On Sunday the 24th we were able to pay our respects to our old friend, Stan Sollid. By my count we had 27 Cars from the Chevy and Buick Clubs combined. As advertised, we met at the PG&E substation (actually the Park & Ride located next door) and formed an impressive caravan as we proceeded to Armstrong Woods for Stan’s Memorial. I was admittedly a little concerned about the parking situation as we approached the entry kiosk and saw cars parked all along the shoulder of the road, but as it turned out, everyone was able to find parking in the park.

Stan’s wife, Gail, had planned on having the “Rain Man” Buick at center stage for the event, but alas, they could not get the car started, so Gail brought the Nomad in its place. I thought the event was a very nice tribute to Stan. He will be missed.

The club outing for August will be on Saturday the 18th (you can thank me later Sheila). As of right now there is nothing firm planned, but rest assured we are feverishly working on a couple of different ideas and as soon as we have it figured out, you will be the first to know.

NOTICE:

It may be mentioned elsewhere in this newsletter, but as a backup: THERE WILL BE NO GENERAL

MEETING AT ROUND TABLE ON JULY 4th. Our next general meeting will be August 1st.

That’s all I have for now, so as we say in aviation, “keep the shiny side up”.

Happy Vapor Trails,

Larry

If I receive several pictures, they will be featured in the August newsletter.

Also, I would love to feature any club member’s car in the newsletter. Please forward pictures and any narrative about your car that you’d like to include and I will take it from there.

Father’s Day Show ’n Shine ~ Narrative by Craig Owens

Photos courtesy of Craig Owens and Gail Azevedo

The annual Fathers' Day car show today at Juilliard Park in downtown Santa Rosa was a good

one. No surprise...it's always a good one. It's a great setting for a car show, but parking for

spectators is a bear...I guess that's the price we pay for taking the lazy way out and just going to

the car show to look around for free.

Page 9: Redwood Empire lassic hevy lub · Redwood Empire Classic Chevy Club Vice President Report June 2018 Vice President Larry Marcom 707.523.2415 maxfly767@comcast.net On Sunday the 24th

Still plugging away on the new ‘57 sedan delivery. Body and paint are great, but doing a lot of de-bugging and up-grading since it had done a lot of sitting for the last 30+ years. Craig Owens

Adjusted steering box, put in new radiator, then drove 200 miles on Nevada dirt roads which are, sadly, better than Sonoma County roads! Frank Edgington

From the Duffy garage:

Finally got disc brakes put on the Nomad - with a lot of help and a BIG THANKS to Ron Porcelli!

Stan Sollid was a long-time member of the Redwood Empire Classic Chevy Club, and he passed away January

21 of this year. On Sunday, June 24th, there was a celebration of life for him at Armstrong Woods. He was

also a member of the Buick club, so between the two car clubs, there were a lot of cars and club members

there, along with other friends of Stan and his wife, Gail.
