Task 5.4 Pre-test solutions

WP5 – Customized interiors3.6 Aircraft Interior: seat design

Based on OPTIMARES current production seats, different design approaches were developed in order to reduce boarding times without compromising comfort for the passenger. Concepts were considered to reduce boarding times, specifically trying to keep passengers from queueing in the aisles due to luggage storage, seat number finding or seating:

• SEAT NUMBERING improvement;• STORAGE under the seat;• SEAT PAN TILTING for easy seating;• AISLE width variation;

WP5 – Customized interiors3.6 Aircraft Interior: seat design

Some of the design concepts are not viable due to functional and certification issues (feet space, life-vest compartments, IFE boxes, etc)

6 rows of 3 seats will be tested in TUDelft Lab

WP5 – Customized interiors3.6 Aircraft Interior: seat design

Seats are currently being built with modifications in order to test at the Aircraft fuselage in TU Delft lab.

WP5 – Impact and next steps

Page 22: Redesigned passenger centric airport and aircraft interiors16032017

EXPECTED:• DESIGN GUIDELINES document provides a tool to implement design

changes at existing airports, improving the passenger experience;• SECURITY layout design and Cart concept is able to reduce the queuing time

and improve passenger satisfaction;• BOARDING GATES proposals to implement at HAM will reduce passenger

stress, improve the overall experience (inforrmation can also speed up boarding)

• AIRCRAFT BOARDING solutions – modified “sliding” seat prototypes - will offer reduction in boarding times;

• IMPLEMENTATION at different levels (Virtual simulations, Lab testing, Airport implementation) will allow further evaluation and improvement.

UNCERTAIN:• IMPLEMENTATION of physical prototypes effectively implemented and

tested at airport environment due to operational constrains;

WP5 – Customized interiorsNext steps

• Close connection with WP6 and WP7 is being developed for implementation / testing of design concepts in different levels:

• Virtual prototypes: SECURITY SIMULATION;• Lab testing prototypes: SEATS AND BOARDING;• Airport prototypes: EXPERIENCE LOUNGE AT HAM;
