Prayer Before Worship

Lord, I love the habitation of Your house and the place where Your glory dwells. In the multitude of Your tender mercies prepare my heart that I may enter Your house to worship and confess

Your holy name; through Jesus Christ, my God and Lord.

Prelude

Festive Ringing of the Bells

Opening Hymn: The Lord’s Our Great Redeemer

Written for the 75th Anniversary of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Music and Lyrics by Roberta Hilgendorf

1. The Lord’s our Great Redeemer E’er walking by our side;

With love and grace and power the Lord has been our guide.

Whenever we would falter His guiding hand we’d see.

Refrain: All praise oh Great Redeemer Your grace is full and free.

2. By faith did Abram travel obeying God’s command.

By faith did Moses lead forth the Jews from Pharaoh’s land.

By faith our church was planted to worship and serve thee.

Refrain: All praise oh Great Redeemer Your grace is full and free.

3. And so, O Great Redeemer You’ve blessed us to this day.

As in the past continue to walk with us, we pray.

Forgive us when we falter Christ’s death has set us free.

Refrain: All praise oh Great Redeemer Your grace is full and free.

4. All praise to God the Father, all praise to God the Son.

All praise to God the Spirit, the mighty Three in One.

You were in the beginning and live eternally.

Refrain: All praise oh Great Redeemer Your grace is full and free.

Invocation

P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. The sign of the cross may be made by all in remembrance of their Baptism.

C Amen.

P Forever, O lord, Your Word is firmly set in the heavens.

C Lord, I love the habitation of Your house and the place where Your

glory dwells.

P Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and keep it.

C Lord, I love the habitation of Your house and the place where Your

glory dwells.

Confession and Absolution

P Since we are gathered to hear God’s Word, call upon Him in prayer and

praise, and receive the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ in the

fellowship of this altar, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess

before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and

deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. (A moment of silence for self-examination)

P Most merciful God,

C we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have

sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done

and by what we have left undone. We have not loved You with our

whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We justly

deserve Your present and eternal punishment. For the sake of Your

Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us,

so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory

of Your holy name. Amen.

Page 4: Redeemer Lutheran Church · We praise You for Your presence here at Redeemer and ask Your ongoing blessing upon those who gather here. Dwell continually among us ... yog puab ua tuab

P Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His

sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ,

and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the

Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen.

P The Lord be with you.

C And also with you.

P Let us Pray... Almighty God, You have promised to be with Your Church

forever. We praise You for Your presence here at Redeemer and ask Your

ongoing blessing upon those who gather here. Dwell continually among us

with Your holy Word and Sacraments, strengthen our fellowship in the

bonds of love and peace, and increase our faithful witness to Your

salvation; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns

with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

C Amen.

Epistle Reading: Acts 2:36-47 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”

Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

John 14:15-31

P The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the 14th chapter.

C Glory to You, O Lord. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot

receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.

“These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.

Prayer of the Church

P Gracious Lord, we come as those whose names You have written in Your

Book of Life to call upon Your mercy for this day. Sustain us in the last gasp

of Satan’s power, lest we deliver our bodies to sin and our hearts to

unbelief. Make us to shine with the brightness of Christ’s light in our world

of darkness, fear and death. Lord, in Your mercy,

C hear our prayer.

Page 8: Redeemer Lutheran Church · We praise You for Your presence here at Redeemer and ask Your ongoing blessing upon those who gather here. Dwell continually among us ... yog puab ua tuab

P Generous Lord, you sent your Son, the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ our

Lord to dwell among and lay down His life for his sheep. We thank you for

all pastors and church workers who have served your sheep in this place.

May you continue to bring forth faithful men to serve your church as

pastors and encourage others to use their time and talents for the

furthering of the Gospel and the growth of your church here on earth

through the power of the Holy Spirit. Lord, in your mercy,

C hear our prayer.

P Merciful Lord, we thank you this day for those saints who have been a

part of this church for the last seventy-five years and now find their rest in

you as part of the church triumphant. Keep those who mourn in the one

true faith and place their hope in the power of the resurrection. Lord, in

your mercy,

C hear our prayer.

P Kind Father, to Your unfailing love we commend all Your servants who

are afflicted and distressed in body, soul or mind... Lord, in Your mercy

C hear our prayer.

P Loving Lord, we have confidence to enter the holy place of Your

presence through the blood of Christ. As You have washed us with the pure

water of Baptism, now feed us with the flesh and blood of Christ in His

Sacrament, according to His own Word and promise, that we may be

encouraged as the day draws near and stirred up to love and good works.

Lord, in Your mercy,

C hear our prayer.

P Steadfast Lord, Redeemer Lutheran Church has been placed into this

community to faithfully preach and share the Gospel. You have sent pastors

to graciously and lovingly administer the sacraments in this community for

the sake of the entire world. You have shown your church here in

Manitowoc mercy and a love that knows no bounds. May you continue to

guide and strengthen this church here on earth for the next seventy-five

years and beyond, lest you send your Son to reign among us again in the

new Heavens and the new Earth where we will know your splendor in all of

and forever.

C We lift them to the Lord.

P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. Psalm 136

C It is right to give Him thanks and praise.

P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all

places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God,

through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who, having created all things, took on

human flesh and was born of the virgin Mary. For our sake He died on the

cross and rose from the dead to put an end to death, thus fulfilling Your

will and gaining for You a holy people. Therefore with angels and

archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your

glorious name, evermore praising You and singing:

P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on

those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to

bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation

accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood

on the cross.

Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord,

to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us

faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own

testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to

celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His

kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and

preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with

the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen.

Proclamation of Christ

P As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s

death until He comes. C Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

P Taught by our Lord and trusting in His promises, we are bold to pray:

C Our Father who art in heaven,

hallowed be Thy name,

Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven;

give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass

against us;

and lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and

ever. Amen.

P The peace of the Lord be with you always. C And also with you.

WELCOME TO REDEEMER

WE ARE GLAD YOU JOINED US TODAY! During Sunday Worship and Sunday School we have a nursery available in room 103, located on the west side of the Sanctuary.(Ask an Usher if you need help locating it.)

Busy bags are available for children during service. They are located on the hooks as you enter the Sanctuary.

There are large print bulletins available for those who need one. Ask an usher and they would be more than happy to give you one.

The Lord’s Supper Redeemer celebrates the Lord’s Supper on every Sunday of the month, it is also

celebrated on the following Monday. With the belief that this sacred meal is a gift of Christ to his church. First Corinthians 11, states: “Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For all who eat and drink without discerning the

body, eat and drink judgment upon themselves.” We request that those who commune here:

Are a member of an LCMS congregation and have received prior instruction in the Lord's Supper.

Realize they are sinful and in need of God’s grace.

Believe that Jesus Christ is their personal Savior.

Believe that in with and under the bread and wine they receive Christ’s body and blood for the forgiveness of their sins. Matthew 26:26-28

Intend from this time forward to amend their sinful lives.

Those who are not communing may come forward for a blessing.

During the five days of the Gathering, youth spend time together in God’s word, worship, service and fellowship with others from across the Synod. Help for Yourself When You’re in Need

In addition to the cold weather outside, many people experience winters in their personal lives. A

recent loss through death, divorce, or relocation may leave them feeling lonely. A hospitalization, a

cancer diagnosis, or ongoing medical problems may leave them feeling isolated. The loss of a job, the

fear of layoffs, or a financial setback can devastate one’s self-esteem. Family and personal struggles

may leave them with nowhere to turn for support.

If you are going through a difficult time, our Stephen Ministers can bring God’s warm love back into

your life. They provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care. They will meet with you privately on a

weekly basis to listen, to support and encourage you, to pray with and for you, and to walk with you for

the duration of your crisis.

To find out more about Stephen Ministry and how you or someone you know could be matched with a

Stephen Minister, talk with either Pastor, Lorrie Hirssig, Gail Terry, or Nicole Densow. Our Stephen

Ministers are ready to care for you!
