Once again the year is going too fast, with the Club AGM having passed us by, just didn’t seem right only going away for a week for an AGM. Those that went had another great week, but with all these types of events it’s what you make of it.

Ross and myself attended the Natcom Extended Committee meeting. The main thing that came out of it was their concern of falling numbers in the club, Natcom are looking for ways to increase membership and our ways to generate funds for the Club without increasing Membership fees, so if you have any ideas please pass onto your Committee or Natcom.

We went to the South East Presidents meeting with the area Calendar being slightly modified with a change in date for the Valley Rally and a change in date and venue for the Blue’s Rally.

The Branch rides have been a little disappointing with the numbers being down, we have a great Ride Committee, so please support them and if you have any ideas for a good ride please let them know as the Ride Calendar can be modified.

Cheers, Russell

Please try to send more articles and stories to me for the magazine. It would be appreciated if

more people would contribute more than the same ones who do.

It has been a very busy month due to the AGM event.

I wish to pass on my condolences to Peter Fortune on the sad loss of his dad Pop Fortune.

It is still looking good for the go ahead for my upcoming operation (fingers crossed for number 8).

Guess what somebody got a speeding ticket (wasn’t me)?

See you next month.

Three Women

Three woman go down to Mexico one night to celebrate college graduation. The got drunk, and woke

up in jail, only to find that they are to be executed in the morning, though none of them can remember

what they did the night before

The first one, a redhead, is strapped in the electric chair and is asked if she has any last words. She

says, “I just graduated from Trinity Bible College and believe in the almighty power of God to intervene

on the behalf of the innocent.” They throw the switch and nothing happens. They all immediately fall to

the floor on their knees, beg for forgiveness, and release her.

The second one, a brunette, is strapped in and gives her last words. “I just graduated from the Univer-

sity of Kentucky School of Law, and I believe in the power of Justice to intervene on the behalf of the

innocent...” They throw the switch and again, nothing happens. Again, they all immediately fall to their

knees, beg for forgiveness, and release her.

The last one, a blonde (you knew it), is strapped in and says, “Well, I’m from the University of Tennes-

see and just graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and I’ll tell ya right now, ya’ll ain’t gonna

electrocute nobody if you don’t plug that thing in.”

Lindsay, Bella and Raizo are doing the Million Paws Walk

on Sunday 19th May,2013 at North Lakes and if you can

we would like your help to raise some money.

Please help me raise as much money as I can so that

RSPCA Queensland can continue to care for the 18,000

dogs that come into their centres across Queensland each

year. Please dig deep to sponsor me. It only takes a few

seconds and your donation will count as a tax deduction.

Spread the word and send to as many people as possible.

You can visit my fundraising page at

Thank you very much.

Some of us that did not wish to go to Roma decided to look for something different for Easter, we chose the Horse Racing at Nanango.

There were six starters for the weekend Jack, Cheryl, Paul, Randi, Keren and Russell. It started with a late start not leaving until about 9am from the Matilda on Dohles Rocks Road, we also had a couple of day trippers in Kiwi (Rod) and Clare as Vanessa was on a trip to Ayers Rock.

We had an enjoyable trip to Nanango staying away from the highway with it being Good Friday, was a good choice. The first stop was Blackbutt for smoko and then Nanango our destination just a short hop for the day.

We arrived at the Homestead Caravan Park and set up our camp real tough with having an ensuite site each, good value $30 per night. After everybody had set up it was quite a warm afternoon so it was of to the pool, a bit fresh on getting in but very refreshing. Friday saw us make use of the well appointed Camp Kitchen and had a very social (drinks) night.

Saturday started a beautiful day with a slow start, with great anticipation of the day ahead. All of us dressed for the occasion some more than others which we come to expect from Jack & Cheryl. We arrived at the track where we were surprised by the numbers already there. Once at the track we had a look around and found the Bar and the Betting Ring. Cheryl was soon spotted and given a number to take part in the Fashions on the Field, Cheryl not happy with this then proceeded to do the same for Jack. A lot of fun was had by all with a few bets won and lost but all in all a great afternoon.

Page 21 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter May 2013

Sunday started with another great morning we had decided to go for a ride, we left Nanango heading to Bjelke Petersen Dam which has a good looking camping area and there was Markets on at the Dam which the girls could not resist. We left the Dam with the intention of getting Smoko in Murgon with nothing open we went to Wondai where we found a Church run café, where you donated what you thought the meal was worth, as they are not allowed to sell food. All of us had a great smoko and we then headed back for Nanango via Kingaroy. On arriving in Nanango we had a wander around with some inter-esting things to be seen in a classic country town.

On arrival back at our camp site we had looked at what else is on in the area to find that here was Bull Riding on that night at Maidenwell. The weather that afternoon turned ugly with quite a storm brewing we decided that the Bull Riding would not be able to be held, so settled in for happy hour and organized a bus to the RSL for dinner. The RSL put on a great feed and we headed for the pokies for a bit of fun, once again there was a few gains and losses but a great night had by all.

Unfortunately all great things must come to an end so Monday saw us packing up in great weather. With pack up done we headed to Blackbutt for Breakfast after another great meal for the weekend we all headed for home having had a fantastic weekend.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF KIDNEY DISEASE?

There are no warning signs for CKD and individuals can lose up to 90% of their kidney function before they feel any symptoms - and by then it's too late.

The symptoms of reduced kidney function may include:

high blood pressure

changes in the amount and number of times urine is passed, e.g. at night

changes in the appearance of urine

blood in the urine

puffiness e.g. legs and ankles

pain in the kidney area

tiredness

loss of appetite

difficulty sleeping

headaches

lack of concentration

itching

shortness of breath

nausea and vomiting

bad breath and a metallic taste in the mouth

These symptoms may worsen gradually as kidney function declines. However, the symptoms are very gen-eral and may be caused by other illness. If you are you are at increased risk of kidney disease, as ex-plained above, or are experiencing many of these symptoms, ask your doctor for a kidney health check.

We left home at 6 am and made our way on to

the Bruce Highway, to make our way to first stop

at Matilda Truck Stop outside Gympie. We

stopped there for some coffee and snacks. Then

we made our way north. Along the way we saw

other bikes making their way up to Maryborough.

Gave them all a wave as we passed them. As we

were heading on I noticed some riders were com-

ing south. It look like they were having a ride to

somewhere for the day. We pulled into to get

petrol and meet up with some riders doing test

rides. We made our way to Maryborough for the

AGM. I was quite surprised as to how many

members had arrived, as this was our first AGM

(virgins you could call us). We made our en-

trance into the grounds to register and made our

way to meet with Minjin, who was our guide to

show us around. We head towards where the

traders were set up. I think I was expecting a little

bit more of traders. There was certainly a lot of

food. Saw some of the demonstrations, and walk

and walk looking at bikes and trailers. We had

lunch at the piazza and met up with other club

members. After lunch we went for walks and

made our way to the camping area. Then sat

under a cool shaded tree at Minjin’s campsite and

had a cold drink. Then we decided to look

around to catch up with some more club mem-

bers for a quick hello. Then it was time for us to

leave to go home. Overall if we had more time we

could have stayed over for the night. We headed

on our way to do a stop at Gympie for coffee and

bite to eat, then we made our tiring return to

home.

Gympie Ride

It was a fine morning but a bit cool when 7 bikes, 4 from Redcliffe and 3 from Northern Gateway meet at the

BP North for a ride up to Gympie via Pomona.

Lui, Steff and John from Northern Gateway graced us, Ian, Jules and Herb and myself, with their good hu-

mour and company for the day.

Flyby led us up the freeway on to Steve Irwin Way and up through Mooloolah Valley and onwards to

Pomona for morning tea. On the way north we past a slow stream of bikes coming back from the AGM.

With clear skies and the weather warming, we

heads for the twisties through Kin Kin and back to

Gympie via Tin Can Bay Road.

We stopped at a Plaza to find that there wasn’t

much in the way of food so decided to visit the Sub-

way on the way out of Gympie. There was a few

Ulyssians heading south that had dropped in for a

break. John left us here to go on to other business

leaving us with Lui and Steff.

The ride home was back down the freeway but luck-

ily the normal Sunday afternoon traffic problems

didn’t eventuate and we were soon stopping at the

BP south for an ice cream and goodbye.

All in all it was a great day, good riding with good

friends.

Daz

We had 7 bikes with 8 people turn up at Carseldine on a beautiful clear autumn morning for the ride to

Tumbulgum.

With a small change from morning tea at Canungra to Mt Tamborine, we headed off along the Gateway to

fight the tin tops and the Sunday Morning traffic to Yatala.

Turning off the Highway at Yatala we rode through the country side and up the Northern Side of Mt Tam-

borine to the Curtis Falls Ice Creamery at the top of the rise for morning tea.

After morning tea, we said goodbye to Lee who was heading on to Canungra.

We took a different way, for me, down the mountain. With the Goat Track to Canungra under repair, we

took the Henri-Robert Drive. It was winding ride down the mountain we great views. The drive along the

Nerang – Murwillumbah Rd was sedate due to the police presence but it wasn’t long before was rode

through Numinbah Valley and on to the tick gate to admire the view back down to the valley.

Our ride took us through Numinbah, Chillingham, Murwillumbah and on to the Tavern at Tumbulgum.

Page 28 Ulysses Club Inc. Redcliffe Branch Newsletter May 2013

Although the drinks were a bit high the meals weren’t bad and looking by the number of bikes lined up as

we came in, it was well known.

The trip home took as on a new road on the north side of the Tweed River back to Tomewin Road.

If you leave the Tavern and head along the river to the east, there is a bridge that crosses the river.

The turn is on the right, McAuleys Rd, after the bridge but if you miss it there is a good U turn area to the

north….

McAuleys Road joins onto Dulguigan Road and heads through the cane fields back to Tomewin Road,

where you turn right to head back over the range and onto Currumbin, the highway and back to Brisbane.

It was a great Autumn day for a ride. All the boxes were ticked.

Great Weather

Great Roads

Great Views

and more important, Great Friends.
