Welcome to our September/October Red Neighbours newsletter, which gives you the latest community news and updates from our Red Neighbours team. It’s been a very busy summer with a number of events and activities taking place in the local L4, L5 and L6 areas, including a visit to Scouse in the House, a Champions-league style ticket draw for local schools, special match-day experiences, meet and greets with players and more from our Walking Football. You can find more information on all of these great events within the newsletter, along with upcoming events and home fixtures. We want as many local residents and children to get involved in our Red Neighbours activity. Our upcoming events section below lists our activities for September and October and how you can get involved. Thanks for taking the time to read.

Red Neighbours get ‘Scouse in the House’ Our Red Neighbours team headed to ‘Scouse in the House’ at Christ Church in Anfield to meet local residents and lend a hand with the event.

The team, which included LFC staff volunteers, helped serve more than 100 vulnerable locals with a hot meal before joining in with a sing-a-long and having a friendly chat with participants. LFC gifts were also given out - including photographs, signature sheets and T-shirts – while residents could have their picture taken with the European Cup.

Creating Memorable Experiences for Local Young People

Local kids help with big LFC games drawLocal schoolchildren from Anfield attended the nail-biting Red Neighbours event at Anfield to select the Premier League home games they will attend this season.

More than 100 local young people came to see Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan join club ambassador Robbie Fowler and LFC Chief Executive Peter Moore at the stadium to take part in a ‘Champions League’ style draw. The fun-filled event, which was held in the Main Stand, saw representatives from 25 local schools learn which matches they’ll watch at Anfield in 2017-18 – and also included a Q&A with Flanagan, Fowler and Moore as well as a visit from the Club’s mascot, Mighty Red.

Fowler said: “It’s such a great idea to provide free tickets to schools as it enables many of our young local fans to experience a live game and soak up the unique atmosphere at Anfield.”

Red Neighbours will once again be donating more than 1,000 tickets to the 25 local schools in the L4, L5 and L6 areas for the 2017-18 season. Each school will receive 11 free tickets to four Premier League home games at Anfield.

Supporting the Elderly Community

Mignolet’s magic MondaySimon Mignolet joined more than 70 pensioners at theRed Neighbours’ Monday Club at Anfield. The Monday Club sees a group of over 50s meet on a monthly basis at Anfield to help with social isolation. Guests - on this occasion including Reds goalkeeper Mignolet - can enjoy a cup of tea and slice of cake as well as participate in fun activities such as bingo, singing and dancing and a raffle. The meeting was the first Monday Club of the season at Anfield.

Walking Football and Walking Netball are run by the Red Neighbours community team and the free sessions, which are aimed at people over the age of 50, encourage physical activity in a fun and social setting. The programme, which was launched in May, continues to go from strength to strength – with the initial monthly football sessions now taking place on a weekly basis.Walking Football takes place at the Anfield Sports and Community Centre every Friday from 11am-1pm.

Community activities took centre stage off the pitch at Anfield as Liverpool hosted Crystal Palace for the Reds’ first home game of the season. The club’s chief executive , Peter Moore, visited the foodbank collection point on Anfield Road to make a donation and met with Dave Kelly of the Fans Supporting Foodbanks initiative.

A total of 210kg of food was collected thanks to our fans, which is one of the best totals yet. Reds legend John Barnes spent time with junior and senior members of the local community who were invited to enjoy the game from an executive box in the Main Stand. The group, including staff and young people from Breckfield and North Everton Neighbourhood Council, saw the Reds win 1-0. Youngsters from North Liverpool Academy were also invited to attend the match and had the chance to high-five the squad as they arrived before kick-off.

Anfield youngsters meet their heroesFour Liverpool first-team players met local fans for a Q&A and signing session at Anfield Sports and Community Centre. Alberto Moreno, Andy Robertson, Dominic Solanke and Ben Woodburn were put under the spotlight by young Reds supporters on a variety of different topics before signing autographs and posing for pictures during the visit.

2017/18 Season Traffic and Transport MeasuresSimilar to last season measures have been put in place to help minimise the impact that crowds may have on the local community and transport routes in the Anfield area on matchdays. We are mindful that the Stadium is situated in a residential area and we are keen to let you know what you can expect for the new season.

At the start of the season we published travel advice for fans and visitors to the area. We are encouraging the use of public transport and will ensure that this information is easily accessible on the Club, Liverpool City Council and Merseytravel websites and social media channels. We will also ensure that visitors to Anfield are aware that only vehicles displaying a valid resident permit will be allowed to park on the streets around the stadium on a matchday to help reduce any inconvenience. Road closures will remain the same - Walton Breck Road will close 90 minutes prior to kick-off and Anfield Road will close four hours prior to kick off, when automatic bollards will be in operation. This season, the post-match road closure along Walton Breck Road will be extended past Sleepers Hill, as far as Everton Valley in order to accommodate a dedicated bus channel for the 917 service, whilst ensuring the safe dispersal of fans in the area. The local residents’ Road Closure Access Pass will once again be in operation. Residents who are eligible for the Road Closure Pass will have received a letter from the Club advising that last season’s pass will be valid for the 2017/18 season so residents are not required to renew their existing pass. If you are eligible and don’t already hold a Road Closure Access Pass, please visit the Anfield Ticket Office to collect your pass. Residents are reminded that the pass does not replace the resident and visitor parking permit scheme issued by Liverpool City Council. Anfield residents should continue to clearly display these in their vehicles on a matchday. Non-residents cannot be granted access through the road closures. You can help us identify you as a resident by ensuring that your pass is clearly visible at all times on a matchday. Residents without parking permits travelling to and from their homes on a matchday by taxi will be permitted access by our Stadium Traffic Management team.
