red cross. visit of head of volunteering department from different eu countries to colmenar viejo...
DESCRIPTION
In June 2009 we had the honor to host a visit of the Heads of the Volunteering Department of different National Red Cross Societies: Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Bulgary, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Holland and Norway, a representative of the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFCR) and a manager of the Office of the Red Cross at the European Union. They wanted to know about a Local Office, our day to day work and how do we manage volunteering activities. We prepared a specific presentation for them; visited our humble facilities, shared information about people, resources and projects (and more especially the Sports School for Integration) and also created room for discusion. We answered their questions and we asked them to made our voices being heard. Such a great experience!TRANSCRIPT

• The best of the Red Cross: institutional support and variety of activities to choose from
• The worst of the Red Cross: is that overwhelmingly big that it sometimes works too slow and with little dynamism (“civil servants”)

Our mandate for you; What we would like you took home
– Economic constraints; dependence from subsidies and fundraising– Education and professionalism– Remunerate vs. volunteering– Having seniors as volunteers and not as beneficiaries– Regeneration

– Red Cross´ assistance is experienced in the field thanks to VOLUNTEERS; we need them to be professionals
– Society changes; we need to change and adapt to new circumstances and NEW WAYS FORWARD
– MAKE OUR VOLUNTEERS aware, available, professional, demanding, proactive, effective and efficient and reserve prominent places for them to decide/drive/act and participate
– SUPPORT LOCAL OFFICES; they need professional management, autonomy, creativity and proactivityThis principles have allowed us to make our own “miracle”; from an EMS ambulance service to a full scale
deployment in 5 years time
