Grades K-2

Materials:• Recycled Cardstock

• “Junk” from teacher recycle center

• Cool glue guns for adults

Introduction:• I found all of these treasures that someone was going to throw away! (show junk)

• What do you think we could do with these instead of letting someone turn them into trash?

• Could you make something out of them?

• What could you make?

• When we re-use things, we keep them out of the trash and we keep our earth clean and

beautiful which helps keep animals and ourselves healthy and happy.

• Do you think you might be able to use your imagination and help the earth at the same time?

• Since today we are learning about land animals, I want each of you to look at the stuff

we have here and think of a land animal (real or make believe/not yet discovered)

that you could make on paper.

• Demonstrate and explain

1. We will choose our items and place them on our paper.

2. A grown up will carry it to the gluing station

3. You can draw more parts to your animal or maybe you want to add a background

for your animal (trees, grass, desert, anything).

• Are you ready to help animals by making awesome art?

• Move to a table and allow time to sort through and discover junk, then hand out paper.

Activity:• Once items are chosen and arranged in the way they like, adult will slide a piece of

cardboard underneath for stability and carry it to the “glue gun station”

• Children can then use markers to finish their picture.

• Adults will add children’s names and name of animal

Conclusion:• What animal did you make?

• Did anyone draw a background for their animal?

• Show me bunny ears if you helped animals today by turning something that would

be yucky trash into beautiful art.
