public hospital and health services to a population of approximately 250,000 people. The primary catchment of the CHHHS covers an area of 142 900 square kilometres from Tully in the south, Cow Bay in the north and Croydon in the west. The outer western region of our Service encompasses extremely remote communities.

The Communications and Engagement Team develops and delivers key communications and engagement across the Health Service including public affairs, consumer engagement, client relationship management, internal staff communications, website management, advertising, publication production, sponsorships and event management.

Your opportunityMembers of the Community Consultation Committees will provide advice and assistance from a consumer and/or carer perspective while advocating for the communities in their respective catchment areas on identified needs and priorities to inform health services in accordance with the engagement objectives from the Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service Strategic Plan 2018–2022.

There are mid term vacanicies for the location-based Community Consultation Committees - Cassowary Coast (1), and Trinity (2) hubs. There are four (4) vacancies on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Community Consultation Committee.

Your roleThe Committees will consult, engage and advocate on behalf of consumers and community groups to:

support community participation and identify community healthcare priorities

provide advice to inform and enhance the cultural capability of local health services

increase positive interactions between community members and the Health Service

collectively identify and prioritise health needs of the Cairns and Hinterland area

provide advice on appropriate systems of information sharing between the community and the Health Service

complement the patient journey through participating in the development of health service consumer satisfaction surveys.

enhance community knowledge, understanding and access to preventative health services

provide specialist consumer advice to support community perspectives that guide the development, implementation and review of the Health Service’s strategic and operational plans

provide collective solutions, via the consumer’s networks to address health service delivery challenges

collectively monitor and feedback emerging community issues and priorities through the Consumer and Community Engagement Coordinator and the Community Advisory Group

communicate the value and benefits of consumer and community engagement for both the community and the Health Service

assist the Board in its communication and engagement with Health Service stakeholders

support initiatives, activities and projects as agreed with the Health Service.

Frequency of meetingsMeetings are held quarterly for three hours.

Orientation and TrainingConsumer Representatives will be offered training and support to fulfil their role on the Community Consultation Committee.

Payment and ReimbursementConsumer Representatives will be reimbursed for their time in accordance with the Cairns and Hinterland Hosptial and Health Service Community Representative Remuneration Policy.

How you will be assessed?You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key capabilities, knowledge and experience. Within the context of the responsibilities described above under ‘Your role’, the ideal applicant will be someone who can demonstrate the following:

Be a current or past consumer, carer/family member or community person who has first-hand

experience of Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service health care service delivery.

Be active in the community, with strong community networks and a sound understanding of local or

regional issues.

Has the capacity to reflect on and present community issues, rather than focusing on personal concerns or individual issues.
