Register for Summer 2018 CANSail Classes

Summer sailing classes will be offered to both members and non-members, and we are looking forward to a fun summer on the water and around the docks atCharlottetown Yacht Club (CYC)!

The mission of the CYC Junior Sailing program is to provide a safe, fun and empow-ering learning environment designed to develop the skills required for sailing, to promote personal growth and independence within the sport, to achieve proficient levels in boat handling and maintenance, and to develop decision making skills, while encouraging sportsmanship, leadership and team work.

Our program is designed for students aged 5 and up to introduce the sport and art of sailing. During the program, beginner students will learn basic sailing techniques from Sail Canada Certified Instructors using the CANSail program. More advanced students will learn about sailboat racing, and have the opportunity to participate in local regattas, as well as regattas in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Our ultimate goal is that each student become active participants in the sport, and learn valuable lessons in self-confidence, teamwork, and respect for nature.

Safety is our main concern and is a priority. All students are required to wear life jackets while they are on the dock and sailing. No exceptions are tolerated.

Juniors are grouped by ability and there is a place for everyone including 5 year-old beginners, 13 or 14 year-old beginners, right on up to the seasoned racer.

About the Charlottetown Yacht Club

Founded in 1922, the Charlottetown Yacht Club is located on one of the most scenic points of the Charlottetown waterfront, with a panoramic view of the harbour. The CYC has become a leader in seamanship education. With a strong Junior Sailing Program using Laser, Optimist and a 420 fleet, many young people have enjoyed becoming water-wise at the CYC. Also, the "young at heart" are learning to sail in the club’s adult sailing courses, which are rapidly gaining popularity.

The club takes pride in its facilities, and ensures regular maintenance and improvements, so that boaters have access to dock lighting, cable television, moorings with tender service, a gas dock, a launching slip, a 10,000 lb. crane and mast crane, and the marina, all serviced by a friendly knowledgeable staff.

The CYC marina is in the sheltered Charlottetown Harbour offering easy, deep water, bridge-free access to the Northumberland Strait, and its docks can accom-modate boats up to 130 feet LOA and 20 feet draft.

The CYC is also home to Captain Jack’s Bar and Grill, where boaters, visitors and locals can enjoy food and drinks on the upper deck with the best view in the Charlottetown Harbour!
