Impact Support Services has been providing high quality skill development and recreation support for over twenty years.

As the recreational division of Melba Support Services we specialise in creating exciting learning environments in amazing locations around Australia and the world. We provide overnight support and recreation, we offer carers the opportunity to have break and operate a monthly Social Club for people to come and have a great time while making new friends.

As we strongly believe in people choosing their own opportunities we offer a range of skills to develop and practice while experiencing our supported recreation activities. Whether it be for three days, five days or a week we can cater to anyone’s dream or desire to learn.

STAFF

Our friendly staff have been around the world supporting people. From navigating the City of London to planning what activities to attend in Apollo Bay everyone has the opportunity to develop and put into practice their selected skills in an environment of their choosing. All of our staff have epilepsy, anaphylaxis, manual handling and CPR training. They are equipped with mobile phones and first aid kits at all times. We always match our staff with the people who attend and train with us on our overnight support.

ACTIVE NIGHTS

If you require active nights to attend any of our community, social and recreational activities there will be an additional component of cost. Typically an active night will last from 12am until 6am the following morning and is broken down as follows.

Active overnight assistance with self care is $264.66 per night plus $84 per 24 hours away from home.

Active overnight assistance with self care higher intensity is $279.42 per night plus $84 per 24 hours away from home.

3. We will then take care of the entire organisation for your recreational activity and learning.

TYPES OF GROUP BASED RECREATION SUPPORT

Support for our recreational activities is divided up into three types of groups-

LOW SUPPORT

Group based recreation and skill development RATIO 1:3 STAFF TO PEOPLE

There is a maximum of 6 people per activity

This support is most appropriate to people who:

• Require minimal support with their daily living skills• Socialise with other people readily • Enjoy new environments

MEDIUM SUPPORT

Group based recreation and skill development, higher staff ratio RATIO 1:2 STAFF TO PEOPLE

There is a maximum of 4 people per activity

This support is most appropriate to people who:

• Require moderate support with their daily living skills• Require behaviour, medical and social support • Find new environments challenging

HIGH SUPPORT

Group based recreation and skill building higher intensity RATIO 1:1 STAFF TO PEOPLE

There is a maximum of 2 people per activity

This support is most appropriate to people who:

• Require a high level of support with their daily living skills

• Require significant behaviour, medical and social support

• Require significant assistance due to low awareness of their own safety

• Have physical support requirements that require 1:1 staff support

SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Learning new skills is always exciting and when you are attending our Recreation Activities you are free to nominate your choice of skills to focus on while away. It’s your choice so if you have a particular skill you would like to learn please let one of our staff know when you are discussing your fantastic experience. Some examples of skills to nominate are below

• Adapting to new environments and cultures• Activity planning and choice• Meal planning and preparation• Social skills and communication• Independent personal care • Time management • Navigation and map reading

INDIVIDUAL ASSESSMENT AND SUPPORT NEEDS

All new people who decide to come and join in one of our fantastic supported community, social and recreational activities will meet with a staff member. The meeting will cover the support requirements of the person, any preferences or questions they may have and determine which support level would be most suitable for them. The assessment will also offer support options, staff member matching and discuss your chosen skills.

BOOKING FEE

We always strive to provide the best experience for all the people who attend our community, social and recreational activities. As these activities require in most cases airfares, insurance, and accommodation deposits we ask that after booking your supported recreation with us you make a deposit within 7 days. This ensures your place on your chosen activity and allows us to provide the best experience for you!

FUNDED RECREATION PROGRAM

Our Funded Recreation Program provides needed opportunities for people living at home with an unpaid carer throughout Victoria. It is funded through the Department of Human Services (DHHS). Spaces on the program are limited.

The Funded Recreation program is available to people who:

• are over the age of 18

• have a disability certified by a medical practitioner

• are eligible under the Disability Services Act 2006

• live in the North Western or Eastern Regions of Victoria

• are reliant on an unpaid carer.

People participating in the Funded Recreation Program can choose an option which best meets their identified needs, and interests.

Recreation plans are developed together with the person and their carer, to ensure the best possible outcome for the person. Plans can be reviewed at anytime and are able to cater to the changing and evolving needs of.

• Is there a cost involved to be a part of the Funded Carer’s Program? There are no costs associated with the Funded Carer’s Program.

• How do I apply to be part of the Funded Carer’s Program? Call 03 9212 0112 or by email to kurtis.mooremelbasupport.com.au for further information on the Funded Carer’s Program and a referral form. Individuals, carers or case managers can make referrals.

Social ClubImpact Social Club is for people who want to go out, meet new people and have fun. It is aimed at encouraging people to come along, socialise and engage in different and exciting activities ten months of the year. Activities range from karaoke, line dancing, Footy night, Spring carnival, African drumming to fancy dress. The Impact Social Club has something for everyone!

The Social Club is open to people who access Impact and the wider community who wish to join in as well. We ask that if you have never attended before to contact us on the below contact details in order to fill in a support requirements document before attending. People who require 1:1 support are required to bring a carer on the night.

What is included in the costImpact Support Services recreation and skill building packages include the following:• Transport throughout the duration of the event with

departures and arrivals to take place from a location specified in the itinerary;

• Airfares (if applicable)• Accommodation;• Main meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner;• Entrance to tourist venues, places of interest listed

on the itinerary (unless otherwise stated);• Experienced and qualified Support Workers, who

support people for the duration of the event. The staff ratio is dependent on the support level required by the participant; and

• Wheelchair accessible services

What is not includedImpact Support Services events do not include:• The cost of visas, passports, travel permits;• The cost of items of a personal nature such as

laundry, telephone calls, excess baggage charges, postage, internet usage, beverages, medical supplies and any other expenses not stated as included.

• Travel insurance is NOT included but can be organised upon request.

Tailor made holidaysImpact Support Services recognise that the events listed may not be suitable for everyone. We are happy to develop custom event options. This will incur a $150 set fee for planning individualised itineraries.

MedicalPeople with pre-existing medical conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes or an allergy are required to fill out an emergency action plan and return this to Impact at least one month prior to the holiday. Any person taking medication is also required to fill in a treatment form and return to Impact at least one month prior to event commencement.

Medication needs to be clearly labelled with name and dosage details on each Blister pack/Pharmacy prepared Roll/Webster pack or Dosette box.

Behaviour Support PlanningIf applicable we will need to recieve a current copy of each person’s Behavioural Support Plan at least one month prior to the holiday. This will enable Support Workers to ensure the plan continues to be implemented whilst away.

International holidaysBookings and a 30% deposit should be made at least 16 weeks in advance of the holiday and balance paid no later than 12 weeks before departure. If payment is not received at this time, cancellation fees will apply.

Interstate holidaysBookings and a 20% deposit should be made at least 12 weeks in advance of the holiday and balance paid no later than 8 weeks before departure. If payment is not received at this time, cancellation fees will apply.

Victorian holidaysBookings and a 20% deposit should be made at least 6 weeks in advance of the holiday and balance paid no later than 4 weeks before departure. If payment is not received at this time, cancellation fees will apply.

ChangesThe holiday itinerary is designed to be flexible so that we can allow for changes depending on peoples needs and interests. People are encouraged and supported to express their interests and needs. Impact Support Services reserves the right to modify the event itinerary in any way necessary at its sole discretion without entitlement to a refund. The itinerary may be changed due to circumstances such as weather conditions, availability of accommodation, availability of flights or any unforeseen circumstances. It also has the right to change the cost of a holiday due to unforeseen changes to prices. Prices are correct as of 1st January 2016 and are subject to change.

CancellationsShould you cancel your booking a full refund will only be given if the place can be filled from our waiting list or if another person can take over the booking. Notice of cancellation must be made in writing to Melba Support Services. If the place cannot be filled, the below cancellation fees apply. Impact may cancel an event if the minimum number of people is not reached. Should this occur, you can transfer your deposit/payment to another available event or a refund will be paid to you.
